The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 406

He had not replied to Lisa, nor did he tell anyone about it, but he didn't ignore it, not at all. In fact, he read the letter a few times, though it's over, and arranged a meeting with a detective. The secret investigation was still going on, same as the searching for his son, Spencer, however, nothing suspicious was found yet.
Though he had rarely contacted Matt, he knew very well what was going on with his life and the company. He didn't want to alert anyone yet until he was certain.
Sue had changed a lot during these three years. She felt like she was returning to her old self before she got married, enjoying the tranquility of life, but with a much more mature mind and an open heart. She saw so much of Spencer in his grandson Louis, and it brought back a lot of memories, memories of sweet bitterness.
When she was not babysitting, which she loved as well, she occupied herself with gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and painting, things that she loved doing when she was young. Sometimes, Curt would even come help with weeding in the garden. Even though they had maids and servants, they rather enjoyed some regular labor work.
The few days when they were back in Miami, Zoe was so surprised by their changes. She was happy for them. She could see that Sue had let go of the past, that Sue and Curt loved each other. Though when Sue was doing all the cooking and helping in the house, Zoe couldn't help complaining about a smile that her work had been taken away from her.

On the morning of the third day, since they came back, Sue had just come in from the garden with some freshly picked roses. "Zoe, can you please get them a nice vase?" She said with a smile.

"Oh, certainly! Look how lovely they are!" Zoe replied cheerfully.
Curt was reading the newspaper with a cup of tea. He glanced up from the paper at Sue and smiled at her affectionately.
Zoe put the flowers next to a photo of Spencer and Nathalia on a shelf. Seeing the face of Spencer, Zoe's happy smile disappeared as she wondered how perfect it would be if Spencer was there. Then the family is whole. Sue noticed and said gently, "Is he a handsome boy?"
Startled, Zoe looked up at Sue and was relieved to see the gentle smile on her face. She was worried that she had upset Sue. She then realized how it was always her that would have to comfort Sue in the past, and now it seemed to be the opposite.
"Yes, yes." Zoe nodded. "I miss him every day, and I really hope to see him home soon."
"You will," Sue said.
Curt listened quietly. Of course, it hurt, and it hurt very much still, not knowing where their son was, but he was glad to see that Sue was calm and hopeful. "I'm starving. Shall we have breakfast soon? Is Nathalia up yet? And the babies?" Curt interrupted in a cheerful tone.
"Yes, we are." Louis and Bella answered. They were just coming downstairs, each holding Nathalia's hands, walking slowly. "Good morning, grandpa, grandma, Zoe." They said politely in their cute little voice.
"Morning, dad, mum, and Zoe," Nathalia said.
"Good morning, sweeties." Curt, Sue, and Zoe chorused, and everyone giggled.
The family enjoyed breakfast together, delightfully.
"Would you like to go for a ride with grandpa today and go fishing, perhaps?" Curt asked Louis and Bella.
"Yes," Louis replied instantly with excitement.

Bella added, "Only if grandma joins us!"
Sue pecked a kiss on Bella's head and said, "Surely. What about your mummy?"
"Oh, I know mummy's going to see the flowers today," Louis said.
"To see the flowers? How do you know?" Curt asked curiously.
"Because she was talking about the flower fairies last night," Bella answered.
Nathalia smiled happily and explained, "I'm thinking of going to the café today."
It was around lunchtime when Nathalia arrived at the café. Lily, one of the staff, was trimming some flowers when she saw Nathalia come in. She was so excited that she dropped the scissors, jumped up, and exclaimed, "Mrs. Nathalia Davidson!"
Everyone froze on hearing the name, then screams of excitement followed. There was an exchange of warm greetings for a good while before Nathalia could sit down quietly at the balcony on the rooftop to enjoy a cup of coffee and some freshly baked chocolate cake.
Lily brought up a small vase with three purple calla lilies. "For our charming and passionate Mrs. Nathalia Davidson." She said with a grin as she placed the flowers down on the table.
Nathalia smiled happily and said, "Thank you, Lily. They are lovely. Would you like to sit down for a bit?" One of the main reasons that the staff has all stayed and loved the café since the very beginning was that Nathalia had always treated them like friends. They had created a little family here and built a home, which meant a lot to them as they grew up as orphans.
"That would be lovely," Lily said.
Nathalia asked for one more coffee for Lily.
"Mrs. Nathalia Davidson, we have all missed you so much! We were still talking about how excited we are to see you, you know." Lily said cheerfully.
Nathalia smiled. "I'm happy to see you all as well. How has everything been?"
"It's been great. Everyone's like brothers and sisters here. It's our home. You gave us a home, Mrs. Nathalia Davidson." Lily said gratefully. "And business has been very good. Most days, we are very busy, but it's good to be busy, and we still have a lot of customers regularly coming from since we opened."
"That's wonderful. You are doing a great job." Nathalia said, then she added, "This time, I'm only staying for a few more days, but I will probably come back in the future and work with you guys."

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
