The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 344

They were journalists assigned to follow up on the suicide of Amy Berry. Naturally, they were curious about Matt's reaction to the incident.
Friends and relatives of the Berry family, as well as all the business partners, attended the funeral. Everyone was guessing if Matt would attend. He had been criticized for not sending or posting any messages of condolence on Amy Berry's death.
The journalists had been following him all day. He went to work; he went out for lunch, then back to the company. It seemed that it was just another normal day for him. When he finished work, he didn't drive but had a walk around, and aimlessly, it seemed.
They had a hard time following him then, cursing why he didn't drive, and they lost him just twenty minutes ago. They had been looking for him and finally found him at Nathalia's studio.
To their surprise, Nathalia was there, and there was a young girl that they had not met before.
Startled, Sophie hid behind Nathalia and was worried that they had taken photos of the three of them together.
It wasn't anything new to Matt as he had grown up amongst rumors and gossips. He reacted calmly and said casually, "This is a private place. Would you please leave?"
One of the journalists asked out of curiosity, "What's this place? It looks new. And who's this girl?" He looked at Sophie, thinking she's young and pretty, but she's too shy and timid. We don't bite. Why is she so frightened?
It wasn't abnormal that people would get nervous seeing paparazzi with their big cameras, especially those persistent ones. But Nathalia and Matt acted so calmly that it made Sophie look over-reacting.
On hearing the journalist's question, Sophie trembled slightly. These people are like monsters!

Nathalia seemed to have sensed Sophie's fear and frowned at the questioner, "This is my studio. It's a bookshop, flower shop, and café, three in one. You are welcomed here when it's open officially. Would you please stop taking photos?" She then changed her tune and said playfully, "You see, I'm a bit under-dressed today for your precious cameras, and I would love to keep my elegant impression on the public."
The journalists liked her sense of humor and chuckled. "Hahaha. You still look wonderful, Mrs. Nathalia Davidson."
Most journalists and the respected public Nathalia. She had everything everyone wanted. She had money that could feed the whole country; she had a brilliant, successful, and handsome husband who adored her; she was beautiful, elegant, and kind. And she earned her respect.
"Yeah, even though you aren't wearing any make-up, you still look better than lots of the movie stars!"
Dressed in jeans and a white T-shirt, without make-up, Nathalia looked energetic and amiable today.
"I like your style today. It's refreshing." They complimented sincerely and turned their cameras off respectfully.
Sophie was so surprised and impressed by Nathalia. Wow. Nathalia! They listen to her!
Cleverly, the journalists targeted Matt again. "It seems that you haven't even sent any condolence on the death of Amy Berry, Mr. Matt Davidson. I wonder why. Aren't you being a bit too cold?"
"Or have you fallen in love with someone else?" They pursued.
Everyone turned to look at Sophie suspiciously. They had been following him for some days and hadn't found any clues. They never saw him meet up with any women. But finally today, here showed up a young girl.
She's rather pretty and seems to be gentle, though very shy. But a lot of men like that. Perhaps she's the new girl. They wondered.

Matt said objectively, "No. It's simply because Amy Berry and I have canceled our wedding. We have nothing to do with each other. And I don't think the Berry family would welcome me at the funeral anyway."
They went on asking all sorts of questions, and Matt responded professionally. Seeing that they were not getting anywhere, one of the journalists suddenly pointed at Sophie and asked, "Miss, what's your name? And what's your relationship with Mr. Matt Davidson?"
Shocked, Sophie couldn't find her tongue. She murmured and stammered, "I. I..."
Matt frowned, displeased at the question, and said coldly, "She's a friend of mine, and that's all."
"Just a friend? It seems that you care about her very much. It looks to me that it's more than just friendship..." one of them ventured boldly.
Sophie panicked. She had never been questioned like this. What should I say? What should I say?
The quieter she was, the more violently they questioned her.
Matt had to stop them and said sternly, "My friend doesn't like to be interviewed. Please respect her. If you have any questions, you can ask me." Matt did like Sophie, but he saw her as a younger sister. He found her gentle and amiable. To him, she was simply a friend and a friend of Nathalia's.
One of the journalists reacted with a sneer, "Ha. Wow, you do care about her, that's for sure. Poor Miss Amy Berry, dead and forgotten."
Sophie felt like she had to say something to at least defend Spencer, and she burst out, "Matt and I are just friends!" I love him, but that's it.
"Hahaha. Finally, you speak." They laughed, thinking the way she reacted must mean there's something going on between them.
Nathalia rolled her eyes at the journalists and thought the headline tomorrow would probably be something like 'Matt Davidson in love with a new girl, his ex, Amy Berry, dead and forgotten.'
"Enough! You are surely making a scene here at my studio!" Nathalia snapped.
The journalists looked at each other with a guilty look, having realized that they had disrespected Nathalia.
"It seems like you have no respect for me at all. I wonder if I don't deserve it." Nathalia said sarcastically and half-jokingly.
"We are very sorry, Mrs. Nathalia Davidson. We were just too curious. Of course, we respect you." One of them said apologetically and then added, "Oh, by the way, do you know this girl yourself?"
"Do I know her? Ha, of course. She's my friend, and she's here to help me set up the studio. Why? Do you have a problem with that?" Nathalia said casually while casting a warning look at the journalist.

NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.
