The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 266

"The peppercorn sauce looks better, and it's your favorite, isn't it?" Spencer said calmly.
Nathalia had then realized what happened. She was a bit shocked but managed not to show it. "It is indeed. I was just thinking perhaps I should try a different sauce, but actually, I prefer peppercorn." She said with a grin, then dipped the steak into the sauce and tasted it. "It's delicious! Thanks, honey."
She acted so naturally that no one noticed anything. However, Amy came over suddenly and said, "Matt, you sounded like you know, Nathalia very well. Are you two very good friends? Or used to be?" She had noticed the way Matt behaved around Nathalia and how he looked at her long ago but thought he would at least hide it in public.
Curt knitted his brows and took a quick glance at Amy.
"Not really. We are just friends." Matt replied calmly. However, the way he looked at Nathalia said something else.
Spencer was so furious that he wanted to throw a punch at Matt; however, he knew he had to control his emotion and stay calm. Bastard! What a shithead! I would have beat him up right now if it wasn't for Nathalia's sake.
He kept reminding himself to stay calm. If they made it a scene, then people would start talking about Nathalia and Matt, which was what Spencer wanted the least.
Nathalia, however, didn't seem to hear or care. She was quietly enjoying her food. "Honey, can you please pass me the salt?" She said to Spencer gently with a smile. Seeing how calm and pleasant Nathalia looked, Spencer felt the anger inside him disappear instantly. He pecked a kiss on her cheek affectionately and passed her the salt.
Nathalia never looked at Matt anymore as if he didn't exist. She chatted with Curt and Mrs. Davidson cheerfully, laughing now and then.

Matt realized that Nathalia was ignoring him. He sat there quietly, deep in thought, and in pain. Amy was, of course, not happy at all, yet she tried to pretend that nothing had happened and said to Matt with an awkward smile, "Matt, would you like some dessert? There's some chocolate cake. It looks very nice."
"No, thanks." His answer was brief and cold.
"What about some ice-cream?" Amy tried again.
"No, thanks." Again, Matt replied icily, without even taking a look at Amy. Kelly watched them and thought, what a difference, the way Spencer treats Nathalia and the way Matt treats Amy. My silly sister, can't she see?
Later on, Mrs. Davidson walked around the room with the company of Spencer and Nathalia, interacting with the guests, while Curt was with Matt and Amy. Both parties seemed happily engaged with the guests, yet somehow it looked like they were two enemies in a competition.
The crowd could sense it, but no one dared to say anything about it. One was Curt, and the other was Spencer and Mrs. Davidson, neither of whom should be displeased.
The guests had to be careful of what they said and felt it difficult to relax. The host came up with an idea, hoping to clear the sense of tension in the air.
"The world-renowned singer, Evette Smith, is to sing a song for Mr. Curt Davidson as a birthday present." He said cheerfully. The crowd cheered and clapped their hands.
The classic cheerful tune of Hit the road Jack got the guests dancing, cheering, and applauding. It did help chase the tension away. "Happy birthday to Mr. Curt Davidson. Many happy returns. And enjoy a great night, everyone!" Evette said happily at the end of the song and handed the microphone back to the host.

"I've heard that Mrs. Nathalia Davidson can sing beautifully. Shall we ask her to sing us a song?" The host said merrily. The crowd reacted excitedly with a burst of applause, and the light shone on Nathalia.
Nathalia was taken aback. Whose idea is it? Someone's playing a trick on me. I can't sing at all.
Spencer seemed to have read Nathalia's mind. He smiled and said, "Unfortunately, Nathalia's got a sore throat at the moment. However, we would like to play a tune for dad if you don't mind. Nathalia's very good at the piano."
The crowd cheered even louder. It was a much better suggestion. The crowd couldn't wait to see the couple on stage together.
Spencer took Nathalia's hand and led her to the stage. "I didn't know you play the piano," Nathalia whispered to him with a smile.
"I do, and I can play a few other instruments too. Your husband is a talented one." He replied with a cheeky wink.
The couple sat down, exchanged a look, and their fingers danced on the keys beautifully as if they had played together for a long time.
It was Liebesgruss by E. Elgar. The piece was finished in July 1888 when Elgar was engaged to be married to Caroline Alice Roberts. It meant 'Love's greeting.' The story went that when Elgar returned home to London from a holiday, he presented it to Caroline as an engagement present.
The crowd watched and listened quietly, thinking what a wonderful tune by a wonderful couple!
As the tune finished, Nathalia and Spencer looked at each other with a content smile. The crowd applauded, and some even whistled.
"Bravo!"
"Beautiful! Beautiful!"
Holding hands, the couple stood up, bowed at the crowd, and came off the stage. The image of them standing in the limelight in love stayed was clearly remembered by many.
"Mr. Curt Davidson, your son, and daughter-in-law played excellently. You must be proud. Cheers." A guest standing near Curt said aloud and raised his glass.
"Thank you kindly. I am indeed proud of them." Curt replied happily while taking a look at Spencer and Nathalia proudly, thinking Spencer was quick at reacting, and Nathalia behaved calmly and elegantly. A wonderful couple they are.
Matt had been quiet. He looked defeated and upset. Curt had not mentioned anything about Matt's identity anymore. The crowd wondered and guessed, and no one dared to raise the question.
