The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 257

Curt didn't look pleased with all, and he couldn't hold his usual calm attitude anymore. "Nathalia, is there more you want to say? Just say it all now once and for all, so I can proceed."
This cheeky girl knows exactly how to irritate me. She never fails.
Nathalia looked at him with an innocent look on her face and continued, "Well, what is it that you want? You want to see the two brothers fight each other to death or to see the Davidsons Group collapse?"
What sort of father is he? He spent his youth amongst women, never ever cared for his wife or son, and now he just told the world he had another son, totally oblivious to how Spencer and his wife feel. What an asshole!
Everyone was shocked by the harshness and honesty of Nathalia's words. Their jaws dropped, and they stared at Nathalia in disbelief, especially Amy. She's mean to me, to others, and even to Mr. Curt Davidson, her father-in-law! Wow. She's not just anybody.
Curt couldn't find his tongue for a little while, then he frowned, took a deep breath, and holding back the fierce emotions inside him, he spoke slowly, "Those that are capable get the job, naturally. The company..."
He went on for a while and realized he had gone off the point. He felt like he couldn't think clearly with her gazing at him with her eyes wide open. Those eyes reminded him of someone. It made him feel guilty, and he couldn't feel angry with her.
Nathalia listens with her brows knitted. What the hell is he talking about? He's rambling.
"You know what, I think you are being very stupid here; you are just looking for trouble. Don't you have better things to do with your life?" Nathalia cut him short finally.

Curt shook his head in disbelief. What did she just say? Did she call me stupid?
Spencer listened delightfully and proudly. My Nathalia is brilliant. He thought, a smile on his face.
Amy was completely shocked. "Nathalia, you are talking nonsense. How dare you speak to Mr. Davidson like that? He's your father-in-law."
Curt looked so displeased that it seemed like he would explode at any time. Yet, to everyone's surprise, he took a few deep breaths and said calmly, "I've gathered you here today to tell you my plan."
Wow. He sounds so calm. He's so tolerant of Nathalia. This is strange. Everyone thought.
Nathalia herself was surprised as well. She did try to irritate him, but it didn't even work.
Quickly, as if he was worried that someone would cut in again, Curt continued, "I'm going to divide the company assets into three parts, one for Spencer, one for Matt and one for myself. I will state it clearly in my will, now that I'm going to die soon, you know, anyway, but just so you are clear."
No one had seen this coming.
"What?!" Nathalia exclaimed.
Spencer laughed. "Ha. What a great gathering! I just knew it. You are so self-centered and stubborn. You never ever ask others' opinions before you make any decisions. You don't talk, you command, you give orders!"
He never listens to others. He doesn't even ask! Selfish. Spencer thought helplessly.
Curt hid his feelings well. His face showed no expression, and one could not guess what he was thinking.
Amy jumped up, excitedly, "That's a great idea. You are so fair and just, Mr. Davidson. Both are your sons, and you treat them fairly. I mean, who says only the legal son gets the inheritance?" She said loudly intentionally.

This is great for Matt, which means it's good for me as I will be his wife! Amy thought victoriously.
Nathalia glared at her and said coldly, "Well, definitely not you. Miss Amy Berry. I hope your future husband will have a son with his mistress, and he will share the family inheritance with your own children! You will be so pleased then, won't you?"
Amy gasped, totally shocked and terribly enraged. "Nathalia!" She barked and pointed at Nathalia.
Spencer suddenly stood up, looking solemn and dismayed, and took Nathalia's hand, heading towards the door. It's a waste of time. I've got nothing to say to him anymore.
Curt yelled icily, "If you leave now, you won't even get the one-third of the property!"
Everyone was startled. Amy was especially excited and exclaimed, "Spencer. I guess you don't care anyway. I mean, you are so talented and capable you can build another empire on your own if you want, right." How she wished they would just leave and not get a cent from Curt.
Nathalia stopped and turned around, "Spencer, aren't we being too nice to some nobody here if we just walk away so they will get the money?"
"We are. You are absolutely right." Spencer nodded and agreed straight away. They went back to their seat and sat down.
Sitting around the same table, no one said a word. It was filled with tension and awkwardness. Amy was sweating nervously, her heart beating fast. She looked around at everyone and dared not utter another word.
Curt knitted his brows, then stood up and rang the bell. A few waiters arrived and neatly filled the table with plates of food. It was a feast.
A man in a smart suit who was probably the manager of the café bowed to Curt courteously and left with the waiters.
"Come, let's enjoy dinner as a family," Curt said formally.
A family?! This is a family?! Huh. What about my mother, your wife?! Who is this chick? She's not married to his bastard son yet, and he sees her as a family. What the hell is wrong with him? Spencer thought furiously.
Nathalia could see that Spencer was going to explode. She squeezed his hand gently. Spencer looked at her and saw her worried face, and magically, his anger was gone. Keep calm and be patient. He told himself.
Everyone sat rather stiffly. No one spoke. It was nothing like a normal family enjoying a meal together. Curt seemed oblivious. He picked up the fork and started helping himself.
Nathalia was rather impressed by his indifference. Matt followed suit and picked up his fork. He took a look at Spencer's uncertainty. Then as if with immense courage, he said, "Bon appetit, dad, Spencer, Lau..." he paused for a bit and managed to go on, "Nathalia, Amy."
Both Nathalia and Matt had suddenly truly understood the change in their relationship. From now on, to him, she was his sister-in-law; she was not just Nathalia anymore. And to Nathalia, he was no longer the innocent, trustworthy Matt, the officer, and friend who had helped her.
