The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 248

They were walking in a grand tunnel. It was about two meters high, brightly lit. After about fifteen minutes' walk, Edward stopped and pressed on a certain brick on the wall. Another golden door appeared and opened.
As Nathalia stepped in, she was amazed by the lines of safes inside. There must be hundreds of them, and cameras were installed in every corner. Is this the famous underground vault that gathers half of the world's wealth? This is where the bequest from grandpa is kept? But why here? So strange.
She realized her heart was beating fast. Being in a closed space somehow made her nervous. Spencer sensed it and pecked a little kiss on her hand to tell her that he was there with her. Their eyes met, and Nathalia smiled.
They stopped in front of one of the safes. "The password is 19390830JEN, plus the fingerprint of your right thumb. Please." Edward said clearly, stepped away, and waited aside.
Standing in front of the safe, somehow, Nathalia felt her heart racing again. She felt a bit confused. The fingerprint of my right thumb?
She took a deep breath, yet still couldn't pluck up her courage to open it as if there was a voice telling her that everything would change once she opened the safe.
It was the first time Spencer had seen Nathalia so nervous. "Shall I do it?"
Nathalia nodded. Spencer put in the password, the safe squeaked. Nathalia bit her lips slightly and put her thumb on it. The squeaking sound stopped straightaway, and the safe was opened.
Thoughts were going through Nathalia's mind quickly. She thought about how her grandfather had worked so hard, yet she couldn't protect it in her previous life as she was used and tricked.
Spencer took out two boxes from the safe. Nathalia opened one, in which lay a small golden key. A key? Why? What is it for? Why did grandpa have to keep it here?

Spencer was surprised as well. "Keep it safe. There must be a reason. What's in the other box?"
It was a ring made of a rather peculiar material. It looked a bit like jade and a bit like metal, shining brightly under the light.
Nathalia looked through both boxes again, hoping to find a note, but there was nothing else in them. She asked Edward Anderson a few more times before they left the vault, "Are you sure my grandpa didn't leave any notes or messages to me before he passed away?"
"No. Not that I know." Again, Edward answered briefly. When they returned to the office, Edward took out a document and asked Nathalia to sign. It was to confirm that Nathalia had taken the bequest. Nathalia had a look and signed. She felt uncertain and even a bit lost.
Edward Anderson seemed relieved. He extended his hand out and said, "Thank you. I hope you have a good time in Switzerland." Nathalia shook his hand and understood that Edward meant goodbye.
She couldn't help asking the question in her mind, "What about the money?" Though most people didn't know about it, she had seen the way Frank Carter and the family talk about it. They didn't seem to be lying, and she died because of it in her previous life.
Edward was a bit shocked, then he said with an air of certainty, "There's nothing about the money. I have no idea how the rumor started. Shaw was a wise and smart man. He wouldn't have left such a sum of money till today. He had asked me to wait for you to collect whatever was in the safe, and that's all he's left."
Nathalia looked at Spencer eyes-wide-open. Spencer took a long look at Edward and Hans as if he was figuring something out.

Hearing the certainty in Edward's voice, Nathalia was shocked. There were so many questions in her mind.
"Why did I have to wait till I'm twenty then?" She asked, her face puzzled.
Edward shook his head and said, rather formally, "To be honest, I don't know. Your grandpa was quite a mysterious man. No one could really see through him. However, he was definitely a great man, a friend I respected the most."
Nathalia didn't know what else to say but was glad to hear that her grandpa was respected. "Thank you, Mr. Williams."
When they left the bank, Nathalia looked frustrated, her mind troubled.
"It's ok, babe. We don't really need the money." Spencer comforted, guessing that Nathalia was upset about the money. For common people, it was a huge sum, but for the Davidsons, it wasn't much worth talking about. It was probably worth 70% of the Davidson Estate & Energy, which was just one of the seven major companies of the Davidsons.
There was so much going on in Nathalia's mind that she didn't know how to explain. "It was just..." She thought about how, in her previous life, Frank Carter tried every way he could, even by killing her, his own daughter, to get the money, but the money, in fact, never existed. She wondered where and how the rumor started. It must be for the purpose of hiding the real truth.
Also, no one would be able to get the key and the ring without her fingerprint anyway, so even if the Carter succeeded in ending Nathalia's life, they would not get anything profitable at the end. How absurd life could be! Without the money, the Carter wouldn't be able to survive, and the company would go bankrupt anyway, which meant that the family would suffer in the end. Frank would lose his fame and respect; Anne and her children would not bear to live without the luxury they had been used to; Ben Johnson would be useless and abandoned. Nathalia didn't even have to revenge, and they would all get their own punishment.
For a few minutes, Nathalia was lost in her own thoughts, and Spencer couldn't tell what she was thinking about or how she was feeling. "Nathalia, babe, what's the matter?" He shook her shoulders gently and asked worriedly, "You are worrying me now. Money doesn't matter as long as you are fine. I love you the same."
Money could be earned, and anything that could be solved with money wasn't a real issue.
Nathalia awakened from her own thoughts and sighed, perhaps for her own experience in the previous life or for those that took the evil path for money.
"You know what? I've just realized that life is so full of surprises and uncertainty. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be, and no one can change anything. It's karma." Nathalia said suddenly.
Spencer didn't like the way Nathalia spoke as she looked like she had traveled to a different dimension. He hugged her tight and said, "Well, one thing that's certain is that you are meant to be mine."
Feeling his warm body and his love, Nathalia had a sudden realization that all that happened in the past belonged to the past, and she was here now, here with the one she loved, here as Mrs. Davidson. The old Nathalia Carter was gone as well as the hatred and pain.
To let go was the real way to move on.
