The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 99

"Alright. I will wait." Nathalia said half reluctantly and left with a proud gait, without even taking a look at anyone. Jeff felt like someone had just slapped him hard on his face, and his face was burning red with embarrassment.
"All are equal before the law. There are questions unanswered yet. How can we just let her leave?" Jeff defended.
The chief glared at Jeff and hurried after Nathalia. "Miss Nathalia Carter, we sincerely apologize for what happened. I assure you that it won't happen again."
Nathalia replied with a sneer, which didn't seem to anger the chief while wondering why he was so apologetic to her. She was just the used-to-be miss Nathalia Carter, but the chief seemed to be more scared of her than Ann Carter.
A tall figure made its appearance in front of Nathalia, and she knew straight away. It was Spencer. Her heart started a race, and she slowed down her pace. What's he doing here?
Spencer was leaning against the wall with his eyes down. He hadn't shaved for a few days, and he looked tired and worried. As if he could feel the appearance of Nathalia, he suddenly looked up, and his face lit up as he saw her. He walked towards her. Nathalia felt her heart pounding.
Spencer grabbed Nathalia's shoulders, looked her up and down worriedly, and sighed with relief after a careful examination, knowing that she was ok. "Nathalia, did they give you any trouble? Did anyone hurt you?" He asked caringly.
It melted Nathalia's heart, and memories of the sweet times together just flashed by. But then sensibility took control, and she listened to her mind. She looked down at the floor to avoid eye contact, composed herself, and said coldly, "I'm ok. Thanks."

She didn't expect that she would still feel emotional seeing Spencer again. It surprised her, and it saddened her.
Spencer's hands seemed to freeze for a second on Nathalia's shoulders. He felt hurt, but he forced a smile and suggested, "Nathalia, let me take you home."
Nathalia let out a sad sigh inside, then looked up, eyes fixed at his, and swept his hands off her shoulders. "No, thank you. I don't think it's a good idea." I've decided to let go. There's no turning back. She thought.
Rejected, abandoned, desolate. Spencer's hands hung on him like they were dead. "Can't we be friends?" he asked.
Friends? Nathalia swallowed the pain and shook her head emotionlessly. "Your mother won't like that. How's she, by the way? If you have time, you should be there with her."
To be friends was not something that Nathalia would ever considerate. She was not a saint, nor an angel, but a little girl alone on the way called life. Either yes or no. Either black or white. Either lovers or strangers. She had made up her mind.
Spencer understood what Nathalia was implying. "Very kind of you." He said sarcastically. He had literally jumped into the car and drove to the police station straight after he heard that Nathalia was taken to the police, but his worries, as well as his passion, was killed by thorough coldness.
Of course, he knew what she was like. When there was no expectation, there was no disappointment, and thus, no sadness.
But his heart was aching. It had been aching ever since she walked out of his life. He kept his head in the past, in the memories. He didn't want to leave or to let it go. Every moment when his mind was not occupied, images and memories of her came up, and like a film, they flashed by again and again. It was painful, but the pain kept the memories alive and kept him moving on.

Nathalia felt her heart shiver with pain. She would not dare look at him into his eyes. It was too heavy for both of them.
She turned and looked around, "Where's officer Matt Miller?" Spencer looked away and answered coldly, "He's left."
"Did you ask him to leave?" Nathalia said without thinking, and when she saw the stern and sad look on Spencer's face. She wished she had not said that.
"Ah. My lawyer is here. He will drive me home, but thanks anyway." Just then, Sean Rushton arrived.
Before Spencer responded, Nathalia walked past him quickly. Why is she acting like she's running away from me? He thought. He just wanted to see her. He just wanted to be with her for a bit longer. He just wanted to protect her.
"Nathalia." He was about to run after her when the chief spoke, "Mr. Spencer Davidson, it's all just misunderstanding, honestly." It looks like the two of them still have feelings for each other, especially Spencer Davidson, he's definitely still in love with her. Nathalia Carter is not someone we want to cross.
Spencer's face looked icy cold, and with a hint of anger, he said, "I hope so. Remember, if anyone hurts Nathalia Carter, I won't let them off."
"Anyone." He repeated.
He could not allow anyone to set her up to do her any harm. It angered him immensely. To hurt her, they even got the police involved! They use the police, so I will do the same then.
The chief's face went pale, terrified. His forehead was covered with cold sweat, and he simply nodded automatically, "Yes. Mr. Davidson. I will take care of it."
Just as Nathalia walked out of the police station with Sean Rushton, they were surrounded by a group of reporters with their cameras and microphones ready.
"Miss Nathalia Carter, it's said that you asked someone to attack your father, is that so?"
"Why did you do it?"
"Even though he has not been a good father to you, he's still your father. Why do you want him dead?"
The reporters questioned impatiently, and all were accusing Nathalia.
Sean knitted his eyebrows and was wondering what to say. Who told them? How did they find out so fast? I need to be careful about what to say. But how do I convince them?
However, Nathalia seemed very calm. The bombarding questions seemed to do nothing to her. She waved her hand, glanced around the crowd till everyone quietened down, and had their eyes fixed at her.
Nathalia bit her lower lip slightly, cleared her throat, and voiced herself, "Everyone, I just want to clear one thing. I've just heard the news about my father being attacked. I swear to everyone that I didn't do it. However badly he has treated me, he's still my father. I sincerely hope he gets well, and I never have the thought of hurting him."
The words traveled clearly to every listener. She was calm, confident, and convincing. The crowd looked at each other, some convinced, some doubtful.
