The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 75

It was Anne Carter's voice. Nathalia was startled. Is this fate?
Anne was walking past when she spotted Nathalia and Joe. Clad in a diamond-studded outfit, adorned with sparkling jewels, she glared at Nathalia with passion.
"Why don't you work for me? I will pay you well. I will take care of your child's medical bills."
Anne had no idea why Nathalia cared about Joe, who seemed to be a failure to her, but if Nathalia wanted him, then that was a reason good enough to take him away from her.
There was nobody around, no spectators, no reporters. Anne didn't need to hide her true feelings now. She bared her hatred and hostility towards Nathalia.
Joe recognized Anne. She's Mrs. Carter, I've seen her face in a lot of charity events. His eyes sparkled as if he had seen hope. "Mrs. Carter, really? Do you really mean it? You can help my child?" He said excitedly.
Anne was pleased and threw a triumphant glance at Nathalia. "Of course. I'm happy to help. I can't bear to see someone suffer." It excited her so much to be able to take whatever or whomever Nathalia wanted.
What she's done to my son and daughter is unforgivable. She will pay for it one day! Today is just a minor warning to her.
Nathalia frowned, wondering Can I not change destiny? Can I not escape from death at the age of twenty? Do I have to die in two years' time?
"You are not bothered about pretending to be a good mother today, are you? I guess there are no reporters here. That's why. Do you really enjoy fighting against me for anything? Taking everything away from me?" Nathalia said plainly.
She wants me to work for her just because she doesn't want me to work for that girl? Joe thought. I guess it's true. There are no real philanthropists. Their so-called charity work is just a show.

However, Joe was desperate, and he wouldn't give up even just a tiny bit of possibility. "Mrs. Carter, will you really help me?"
Anne would normally pay no attention to someone like Joe Murry. He was nobody to her, useless, but just for the sake of going against Nathalia, she replied with a bright smile, "Of course, don't you worry about it."
As soon as she said it, she couldn't help resuming her arrogant attitude. I had no time for you. You should just be grateful that I said I would help. She thought, a bit annoyed by Joe. Then she looked at Nathalia and reproached her, "Nathalia, you disrespect your father and me. You put your brother and sister into so much trouble. However, I still hope that you can change and be a good person."
Recalling her daughter being sent abroad just two days ago angered her tremendously. It's all because of her, this evil devil!
Nathalia burst out laughing, truly impressed by Anne's ridiculousness.
"I've been living in a selfish, mean, and brutal family, a family that wants to kill me. How do I know to be a good person? Mrs. Carter, do you know? Well, I don't think so. If you were a good person yourself, you would not seduce someone else's husband and have his kids, would you?"
Anne was shivering with anger. "Nathalia, how can you speak of your family like that?! We have all been so good to you. Zack and Evette are you brother and sister, but what have you done to them? How can you be so cruel?"
Nathalia sneered, glared at Anne, and said, "Mrs. Carter, have I said anything wrong? Evette is only one year younger than me. My mother died when I was four, and I don't even know how she died..."

Terror struck Anne, and her face turned pale. No, she can't know the truth! Never!
"Nathalia, you are talking nonsense. How dare you!" She snapped.
Nathalia saw the terror in Anne's eyes, and the hatred inside her flared up like a fire. "I didn't say you murdered my mother. What are you nervous about? Or there's something behind my mother's death? Are you hiding something?"
Cold sweats covered Anne's forehead, her heart racing. "Nonsense! I have no idea what you are talking about." She sounded extremely nervous.
Nathalia didn't make any more comments but simply stared at Anne icily for a few seconds. Then she looked at Joe calmly and asked, "Mr. Murry, have you decided?"
"I..." Joe looked at Nathalia, and for the first time, he really saw her, and somehow he felt threatened, though Nathalia's voice was calm.
She's not a usual girl. With just a few words and she's got Mrs. Carter scared. Wait, Nathalia Carter, the older daughter of the Carter? She's different from what I heard about her. She isn't weak or shy at all. She's sharp and confident.
Joe suddenly felt that this would be a decision that would affect the rest of his life. This would decide how his life would be like and the fate of his family. He hesitated.
Anne thought she was going to win, but now the scene had changed. Damn it! You little shit! She thought angrily. Though she couldn't do much to Nathalia now, with someone like Joe, it was a piece of cake to her. If he dares to go against me, he will suffer!
"You'd better be careful. I don't think you want to be an enemy of the Carter." Anne threatened.
Joe's face turned pale. An enemy of the Carter? Hell no.
Nathalia lifted her eyebrow, smiled, and said confidently, "or my enemy?" It sounded casual, but it hit Joe like a strong wave. His gaze traveled between Nathalia and Anne. He was scared and confused. Somehow he had got himself involved in others' fight. One was the wife of Frank Carter, who owned the famous Carter's Company, the other one was a young but somehow terrifyingly convincing girl.
Who should I choose?
Silence fell.
Anne and Nathalia stood opposite each other. Anne was furious, glaring at Nathalia, while Nathalia was calm and confident.
Ahhhh. What am I going to do? Joe panicked as he took a look at Anne, then Nathalia, then back to Anne and then Nathalia...
Just then, footsteps echoed in the stairs. A hand rested on Nathalia's shoulder from behind, and a voice said, "Nathalia, what's the matter? Mrs. Carter, what are you doing to my Nathalia again? Don't you test my tolerance!"
It was Spencer. Nathalia had no idea why he showed up. He grabbed Nathalia into his arms and embraced her as he glared at Anne coldly.
Nathalia felt her tension melt away in his arms, and she smiled a content smile. He just showed up at the right time again.
Anne was shocked and frightened, but she was enraged when she saw the smile on Nathalia's face. "Spencer, this has nothing to do with you. Please don't interfere. And, you, what's your name? Make your decision now! Who will you work for?"

Demonizing Matters
A high fantasy drama about a young woman who finds out a demon secret. This secret sparks a growing conflict between demons and humans. While trying to save her own life and dealing with the unexpected consequences of her actions, she falls in love with a hated demon. We follow the drama of Lita, alongside a cast of several other POV characters, as she discovers secrets (both open and purposefully hidden), makes well intentioned but sometimes disastrous decisions, and encounters prejudices and truths. Demons may be evil… or not. Humans may be good… or not. God is aloof… or not. Publishing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is my first real work! Super excited to be publishing! I don’t spend a lot of time describing gore, sex, trauma or any other type of scene that would be labeled as mature. I've labeled the story as mature in every way more because I don't quite understand the standard and don't know if I've crossed the line at all (and I'd rather be safe than get my story rejected for under labeling ;)). Mostly I hint, start the scene then interrupt/fade out, and in general let the reader know it happens but without making it too explicit. (I’d love to hear how I did on this! And if it was still entertaining/informative without being traumatizing.) This is what I prefer to read myself so that’s what I write. I’m not apologizing. ;) If I mislabeled my mature content it was by accident. And, yes, the pacing was also on purpose. Beyond that, I welcome any feedback you want to give! Enjoy the story!
