The Rise Of Nathalia Carter Chapter 70

Sophie turned and looked at Matt. Her eyes seemed to sparkle. She admired him, and it was apparent. "Officer, can you provide me with police protection?" She asked in a soft voice.
He's soooooo good looking and charming! He's totally my cup of tea. My God. Sophie thought excitedly.
"Sophie Watson!" Evette snapped furiously.
Matt frowned and stepped in front of Sophie, with his back facing her, intending to protect her from any crazy moves from Evette.
"Evette Carter, you are going to the office with us." He demanded.
Sophie was totally obsessed with Matt. He's so cool.
By this time, Spencer and Nathalia had got in the car and were driving to Spencer's house. Nathalia sat quietly and watched Spencer driving. He's so good looking. She thought. Her heart was beating fast.
"Thank you." A smile lit up her face, and she said sweetly.
Spencer knew Nathalia was watching him, and he enjoyed the attention. Aha, now you've finally realized how charming I am. He thought happily.
He was feeling very good and didn't even realize that he, himself, was all smiling. "What are you thanking me for?" He glanced at Nathalia, a bright smile on his face.
Nathalia looked at him for a few seconds, then looked away and said, "Thank you for coming to me in time. Thank you for being there with me. Thank you for trusting me..."
Spencer watched her face grow rosy red as she confessed her true feelings. He felt immense love and affection. Gently he held her hand; the softness and warmth of it made him feel safe and relaxed.
"It's my pleasure. You are not just anyone to me. You are someone, someone very special. Anyone that wants to hurt you is against me, and anyone that's against me, I won't let them off easily." He said sincerely and proudly.

Someone. Someone very special. His words echoed in Nathalia's heart. Her cheeks reddened. Her lips parted slightly as if she was to say something, but no words came. Spencer watched her hot cheeks, her peachy lips, and the glow in her eyes.
He pulled the car over and bent over to kiss her between her eyebrows. Nathalia closed her eyes unconsciously and felt his lips soft. It lingered.
She opened her eyes to meet his, and she was enchanted. He slowly lowered his head towards her and rested his lips on her left ear, his breathing right next to her, his warmth, his passion. "Nathalia..." he whispered. He inhaled the pleasant fragrance from her hair, felt the softness of her ear, and the warmth radiated from her skin.
Honk! Just then, a car behind awoke the lovers from their trance. Nathalia quickly turned away, realizing how hot her cheeks had grown and how fast her heart was beating.
"By the way, how did you get the video? And the necklace?" She licked her dry lips and tried to divert the attention.
It was what she had been wondering about. She remembered that she asked Ms. Watson to sell the necklace. How come Evette had it?
"You don't need to know. I've taken care of everything." Spencer said, a bit disappointed by the interruption, still thinking of the intimate feelings earlier.
Nathalia heard the slight disappointment in his tone, and it made her heart beat faster. Then, the answer came to her mind.
"Was it you? You bought a necklace?"
Did he buy the necklace?
Spencer didn't answer but smiled. He looked pleased. A golden ray of sunlight shone through the window and fell on his back. Nathalia gazed.
She could hear her heartbeat, content. Everything was so beautiful and peaceful. She was in love. It was love.

Gently he held her cheeks in his hands and placed his lips on hers. His hands caressed her hair, down her neck, her shoulders... Nathalia surrendered and dived into the beautiful sensation of his touches. For the first time, she wrapped her arms around his head and responded with the same affection...
The usual twenty-minute drive from Nathalia's school to Spencer's home turned out to be an almost one-hour trip.
"Come in." Spencer opened the door and beckoned Nathalia. Nathalia seemed a bit confused and a bit excited. "Is this your..." she asked.
"My home, and your home," Spencer replied with a smile. He put his arm around her waist and took her in. He felt joy and pride.
Then, a figure appeared. "Spencer, I'm very disappointed with you." The voice sounded cold and harsh. It was Spencer's father. He looked at the young couple, annoyed and cross.
Nathalia recognized him. She stayed next to Spencer and remained silent. Spencer stroked her hand affectionately, and in an indifferent tone, he asked Nathalia, "Shall I tell him that I'm glad to hear that?"
The father and son stood there for a few seconds, both looking cold and stern. The tension in the air was apparent.
"Spencer!" Kurt snapped. He glared at Spencer, opened his mouth slightly as if he was to say something, but he didn't, and instead, he looked at Nathalia and demanded, "Take her back to her house right now. Don't get involved with the Carters!"
He didn't even try to hide his disapproval towards Nathalia. Nathalia bit her lips, but she didn't look away. She met his glare, calm, and determined. She felt no fear.
Kurt was taken aback. He knitted his brows.
"It's none of your business. By the way, dad, it's getting late, time for you to meet your mistress. Nathalia and I shall not keep you here and take up your time." Spencer replied.
Nathalia couldn't help letting out a quiet giggle. I've never met anyone that talks to their father like he does.
Kurt wanted to slap Spencer right there and then. Little devil. He has never done a thing that doesn't annoy me. He glanced at Nathalia a few times before he addressed her name. "Nathalia Carter."
His voice was cold as usual, but one could not tell the emotions in his tone. Nathalia had a strange feeling, but she didn't linger on it.
"Yes, Mr. Davidson." She simply replied. He's Spencer's father, after all. I will show him some respect.
"Good that you call me Mr. Davidson as I don't agree with the engagement. Stop dreaming of being my daughter-in-law. It's impossible."

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
