Harry Potter: Blood Of The Dragon Chapter 150

Magnus ran to Flitwick's office in excitement. He wanted to get better at Martial magic but you can't really get better if all you do is fight static puppets or puppets in the room of requirements. He wanted to fight Flitwick himself, a real duelling champion.
*Knock Knock*
"MAGNUS! Come in." It seemed Flitwick was even more excited and was already anticipating him.
Magnus opened the door and entered.
Flitwick sat on his high chair, looking at the document on the table. "It was accepted, Mr Pendragon. They have agreed to start a Duelling Club, and if the club is successful, we can hold an event like the Quidditch."
Magnus took a seat and replied, "But it can not be similar to Quidditch. We should not turn this into a competition between houses. Let's just make it a championship, in which students will randomly be put in a tournament bracket. The more they win the higher they will reach, eventually leading to the finale. The winner will be an individual, not a house."
"Absolutely brilliant idea. We can not increase the animosity between houses. We will start this club from tomorrow. But we need students to join first. And I need you to attract students, seeing you are quite famous right now." Flitwick flattered him.
Magnus smiled embarrassingly, "That... I think I am. I will promote the club, Professor. All the enthusiasts will join on day one and their number will be in tens. I will focus on attracting other crowds, which will be nervous about it."
"Yes, I wish you luck. Also, I appoint you as the first President Overseer of the Duelling Club. I think you are well qualified for it." Flitwick announced.
This was as good as giving him a free hand over the working of the club. ~Hmm... is he allowing me to train fighters or he's oblivious?~
"Then I will go and start preparing, professor. I should make some posters and distribute them around." Magnus told Flitwick and left his office.
As he came out of the classroom adjacent to Flitwick's office, where he saw Sirius and Remus roaming around.
"Hey, wait up." He called them both.
Both of them were going to the Great hall for lunch. Magnus informed them about the duelling club and instantly he had 4 new members as they also put James' and Peter's names on the list.
"Tell everyone in your house about it and make a list, then give it to me later. The more people there are, the merrier it will be. After quidditch ends, there will be a Duelling tournament." He informed them.

With excitement, Remus and Sirius ran to their house tables and told them everything. Magnus did the same and went to the tables of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw to tell them about the friendly and non-fatal duelling club.
"Ragnar, I've added your name to it," Magnus told him after returning to his table.
Ragnar's open mouth froze and his spoon fell back on the plate, "Is using potions legal?"
"Sure, I am the overseer of the club, I can make new rules. As long as they are not life-threatening or harmful, you can use them. But, I advise you to focus more on martial spells or even more complex charms, they will help you in the long run." Magnus advised him.
"But... I don't think I have enough magic in me. I tried to cast spells but they never came out right. I also make sure my chants are right and wand movement is perfect, still, nothing happens." Ragnar said with a frustrated look.
"Hmm, maybe we should ask Merlin. He should know what's wrong with you." Magnus suggested.
So, after dinner, the three headed to their room. There were no classes after lunch today anyway. But there was going to be Slug Club later that evening.
When they came to the portrait, both Merlin and Arthur were in the midst of a starring contest.
"Where are you doing?" Magnus asked them.
"We are deciding who will get to go on a date with the pretty woman in a portrait we saw today," Arthur explained.
"I will go to her, I saw her first," Merlin claimed.
"HAHA... look at your face, that long ugly beard, no woman will ever like you if you have a longer beard than her hair." Arthur started insulting Merlin's most loved possession.
"ARTHUR... you are going too far, I will not hear anything about my beard. Do you know how long it took me to grow?" Merlin raged.
Arthur laughed, "Haha, of course, I know. You didn't even have a single speck of hair on your face till the age of 30. People used to think you were a kid, so you made that beard potion and drank it for 40 years to grow this beard... HAHAHAHA... but that potion also made you bald just from the top, that's why you always wore that stupid hat."
"ARTHUR... HAAAA..." Both of them hopelessly started brawling.
Magnus, Ragnar, Severus, Summer and Chad sat down, each having a snack with them as they happily watched the fight.

"YEAH!... left punch..." Ragnar commented.
"Merlin, you can do it." Magnus cheered.
As both Merlin and Arthur fell to the ground and were rolling, they noticed the eyes on them, laughing at them. Then they looked at each other's faces and started whispering.
"Let's end this here, Merlin. We can not act like this in front of children." Arthur whispered.
"No, we can't. But you started it." Merlin said.
"Let's continue later. The one who wins gets to go on a date." Arthur suggested.
Merlin agreed, "Deal."
So, both of them slowly got up and cleaned their clothes. Merlin put his arm on Arthur's shoulder. "Oh, what are you doing here, kids? We were just exercising."
"Sure sure... "EXERCISING" must be good for your health." Ragnar taunted.
*Cough*
"What do you want to ask us?" Arthur tried to change the topic.
Magnus didn't embarrass them anymore, "Yes, I needed to ask something from Merlin. Can you help us understand why Ragnar is so bad at casting wand related spells? Is it something related to his wand or something else?"
"Where did you get your wand?" Merlin asked Ragnar.
"Ollivander," Ragnar answered.
Merlin thought for a second, "Hmm, then it's not the wand that is creating the problem. Okay, cast the basic Lumos spell for me."
Ragnar nodded and took out his wand. This was a very basic and simple spell that even he could do, but his light was always weak.
He swung his wand and cast the charm. "Lumos."
Immediately, a light appeared on the tip of his wand, illuminating the room. But, then they all noticed that it was flickering heavily, and it was also not as strong as a normal Lumos spell of others.
Merlin silently stared at the light and the blinking was continuous. "Cast it again."
After another round of observation, Merlin had some idea about what could be wrong with him.
"I think I know what the problem is, Ragnar. And I'm afraid, it's not good news. The problem is in your body it seems. It is unable to channel the magic evenly, it increases, decreases or stops every split second. The problem is not your magic at all, you are as gifted in it as any other child," Merlin revealed.
Ragnar looked at his wand in disappointment. But Magnus wasn't going to let his brother be sad like this.
"Isn't there any treatment for this?" He inquired.
"Not that I know, you should ask saint Mungo for it. But, as far as I can guess, there can be no cure for this, because this is something you are born with. A wizard has a different set of veins that are invisible but they channel magic in our body. Sometimes, these veins can be missing, or too uneven in thickness to supply the magic evenly.
"But... there is one possible way. I had come up with it a long time ago, but never tried to make it as it needed a lot of my time. The answer to your troubles is runes. You need to create a rune system that can store your magic for you and provide it to you when needed, in an even manner." Merlin suggested.
All hope was not lost after all. Ragnar felt much better and now motivated. "Then I will study Runes and make them, no matter what."
"And I will help you, Rag," Magnus added.
"Ask me if you need any help," Severus said.
Merlin nodded seeing this, "Yes, together you can overcome anything. I will help you too, with whatever I know."
"Thank you, Merlin. I will go and start reading some books now." Ragnar immediately went to his study table.
"Well, you two can resume your fighting, I'm leaving," Magnus told the two in portrait.
Merlin acted as if he didn't know anything, "What fighting? We were just exercising. Come, Arthur... Let's exercise."
"Hmm, let's exercise, Merlin. Let's see who's best at... 'EXERCISING'." Arthur replied dubiously.

The Lady's Handbook of Intrigue and Murder (High Fantasy Politics)
Summary:The daughter of a dying house is summoned to the Imperial City to meet and perhaps marry a handsome prince. It sounds like a fairy tale. Except Mydea doesn’t have the advantage of a half-forgotten childhood encounter, supreme magic to match the highest echelons of society, or even the privilege of an ally. In order to survive and make a name for herself, she must beat the Imperial Court at its own game. At least no one's tried to kill her—yet. Notes: Basically, if you liked the magic of Harry Potter and the politics of Game of Thrones, you'll probably like this. While the first book focuses on the female lead, and the interplay of competing regional and imperial interests, subsequent books will also cover warfare and how I imagine that differs wildly from historical norms with the introductions of a magical aristocracy.
