Should I give up on this method then? It's not like I can't improve it so that my fat could hold much more energy than Overlord did! And it's not like his approach was subpar or anything…
"Oh boy… You met the first specimen that uses a different way to grow stronger and you are already smitten by his technique? How about trying to reach some more profound place and then learning it?"
But it's not like I can just teleport out to civilisation from this area! Unless you want to tell me that so far, your teleportation windows were throwing me to random places just to prank me!
"..."
What, you don't know what to say now? Did I hit the spot?
"It's not like I was capable of directing the windows before… And even now, I'm unable to do so from here, because there is something interfering with my influence deep in this island forest! Just like near your own stronghold, where the sheer amount of energy gathered there makes me unable to pave new spatial paths!"
Okay then, let's drop this. What about the technique I learned from this ugly guy then? Should I just drop the idea or attempt to learn something from it?
"Well… It's not like I can order or forbid you from doing anything, can I? I can only advise you to be careful with what techniques are you willing to implement. After all, it's not like a human body can survive constant modifications without some strange aftereffects, that you would learn only after being hit by them!"
I didn't think about it… I guess I was too caught up with the first real pointer that you offered me back then, that I was simply too eager to find some other means of raising my strength. I admit, my bad!

When someone was wrong, it was only right to admit it. Trying to forcefully push one's point despite acknowledging the other side arguments was the way of acting for the stupid people!
Knock knock.
Before I was even able to go as far as to eat a single piece of the meat, the knocking on the doors broke my line of thoughts and discussion with Bonger, forcing me to focus back on the current matters.
"Come in!"
The second my words left my mouth, a big posture stormed inside the room, as if with the intention of smashing everything inside to the bits.
With how sudden the intrusion was, it took me a short moment to realise that this fuming in rage person, was indeed just the overlord!
After looking around the room for a long moment while accompanied by my shocked and ridiculing expression, the man finally calmed down and turned to me.
"The trip is ready. Would you mind to follow me?"
Despite his apparent manners as he asked the question, it was clear just from the look of his face that he was really eager to turn around the entire room just to make sure that nothing improper was hidden here!
Praising my own decision to push the matter with Elea for the later time, I simply stood up from the bed on which I was stuffing myself with the meat before turning to the lord of this place.
"It would be lovely if the gourd would remain intact after your… servants will… clean the room."
Pausing whenever I wanted to make sure that the guy would understand the second meaning of my paused phrase, I decided by myself that I conveyed the meaning in a sufficient way.
I wonder if this guy realised that this very wine that I just made sure to keep, would be one of the tools that I would use to nail his own daughter later on!

Leaving this poor guy to his own devices, I went outside of the room, only to met an elderly man in simple attire, waiting for me right near the doors.
"I'm tasked with guiding you around the slave camp, sir. I hope I will be able to answer all your questions."
Looking at his respectable attitude and finely kept suit, he appeared like old-style butlers, that one could see only in the period dramas. Thinking about it, I never met someone like that even while in the arena city!
"I will be in your care."
Since the guy showed me his respect, I didn't mind giving it back. Nodding my head slightly in acknowledgement of his proper manners, I followed his quick pace and left the mansion altogether.
As we went outside, the attitude of the guards changed. I couldn't be sure whether it had something to do with the fact that I was invited for the breakfast or the fame of the guy leading me towards the so-called city, but it was fun to watch as they chocked on their tongues while greeting me! I could only guess that whatever changed their attitude, wasn't as common as to be a constant pain in the butt for them.
The road itself wasn't as long as I assumed it would be. I could only fathom that my basic understanding of the social structure and the inherent rules of locating various areas were quite different from what I expected.
After all, there had to be some important reason to keep a slave camp barely a five minutes walk away from the lord's mansion, instead of putting it on the very edge of the city, with the proximity of the garrison!
As I racked my brains to solve the issue, I could only come up with a single reason.
There was no garrison or any other military occupied area in this entire place!
Just as that realisation struck me, the butler finally stopped his walk that could very well be called a job, and pointed at a sturdy gate barely a few meters away from the main road, connecting the two ends of rather a short wall surrounding a big area in the very middle of the town.
Back when I looked at the city from the sea, I thought they were using this place to keep their cattle, but it seems I was mistaken about its type.
"This is the entrance to the inner pasture. The slave camp is right behind it."

Author's note: You are reading a first draft, written mostly while drinking cheap whiskey. Expect it to read like hot garbage and I guarantee that it’ll meet your expectations. I’m a storyteller, not a writer - there’s a huge difference between the two professions. IMPORTANT! This story is told in a first-person limited, conversational style, with Emmett occasionally breaking the 4th wall and addressing the reader directly. This means that YOU and Emmett may have absolutely no idea why stuff is happening, because there will be little or no exposition or other POV's. Read the comments for spoilers, ask questions if you want to know something. This work incorporates blended aspects of Xianxia, Wuxia, Super powers, and Western Magic into a post-apocalyptic fantasy adventure. It is none of those things and all those things, mashed together. The MC is Over Powered, but so are many, many others. He just hasn't met them yet. Dear Student, What follows is an adaption of the diary of Emmett Carter before his Ascension. While the decades during and after the Aurora Apocalypse are lost to us, the Ascended himself has allowed us to publish this work so long as we warn the reader that it may not be entirely accurate or present an unbiased viewpoint of the events. One should also note that the Aurora was in flux during that time and some things that were possible in the early days are no longer possible, especially with the advent of the Akashic record. Editors have included footnotes when possible to explain pre-aurora technologies or concepts and how they relate to current magical technologies. The contents of this work may upset readers. If you’ve ever been in a natural disaster, had a house fire, witnessed a murder, lost a loved one to violence, or have a strong opinion on the sanctity of life, please do not read this. It contains dramatic scenes of a world in the throes of an apocalyptic event. There are no rainbows and unicorns, only loss, uncertainty, and death while the survivors struggle to rebuild their lives. Updates Thursdays and Sundays for now. Word count is about 2000 ~ 4000ish per chappie.
