Magic Shop System Chapter 73

Elora took a deep breath and glanced at the woman. "Your son was poisoned."
"Wha.." the woman turned pale hearing her words. "How could this be?!"
"Though I don't know what kind of poison it was, as I don't have any knowledge of poisons." She sighed and said. "But I can assure you that your son was poisoned." She lifted her right hand and showed it to everyone. Kadyn's face turned pale when he saw her palm. "What is that?"
The centre of her palm had been turned completely blue. But when he looked carefully he realised that the mark was shrinking continuously and a blue gas dispelled from it, fading into thin air.
Elora glanced at her palm and replied. "This is the poison that I have extracted from that kid's body."
She turned towards Kadyn and gave a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, this poison is not harmful to magus—it is only dangerous for non-magicians. As for this kid, it was life-threatening. If I hadn't treated him in time, he would have died."
Kadyn sighed in relief after hearing that it wasn't fatal. He eyed the woman and asked. "Do you know who did this?"
The woman frowned and shook her head. "I don't know. He didn't go out today and no one had come to our home either. I don't know how he got poisoned."
"Where is my son?!" just when he was about to ask another question, a shout came from outside. A man dashed into the shop. He didn't pay any attention to the surroundings and sprinted to the woman who held her child tightly. " Rayna, what happened to our son?" the man asked with an agitated expression.
Kadyn eyed the man. He looked around twenty-eight years old, had an average looking face and a strong build. However, when Kadyn's gaze fell over him, he frowned. Then he curled his lips and a cold light flickered inside his eyes.
"What are you doing here, Calak?" Rayna asked with a surprised look.
"I came early from work. However, there was no one present in the house. Therefore I asked our neighbour and then I realised that something had happened to Kove. That's why… just tell me what happened to him." He seemed anxious and worried for his son.
Rayna looked at Calak and tears fell from her eyes. "Thank you, Calak. For taking care of me and my son."

"What are you speaking about?" Calak shook his head and wiped Rayna's tears gently. "You are my wife and Kove is my son. I must take care of you two."
Rayna didn't say anything and nodded gently. She felt blessed and eyed Calak with a smile. "Oh, he is your husband? He seems concerned about you and your child." Kadyn who stood at the side asked with a smiling face as he eyed Calak from up and down. An expression of pondering appeared on his face.
"Who are you?" Calak frowned. He didn't like Kadyn's tone and the way he looked at him.
"I'm just a small shopkeeper." Kadyn smiled and said. "By the way, she is really your wife and that kid is your son?"
The atmosphere turned strange, as soon as his voice sounded. Elora also frowned. Has my brother fallen in love with Rayna? She thought and her face turned a little strange. Rayna looked at Kadyn with a bewildered face and hesitated for a moment before replying. "He is my second husband. We got married about fifteen days ago."
Calak frowned and an annoyed look appeared on his face. He eyed Rayna and said. "Why are you telling him about our personal life?"
"Calak, they are our benefactors; without them, our son had died." She hurriedly explained.
Calak was left stunned and a vicious glint appeared in his eyes, but he hid without letting anyone see. "I thank you for saving my child."
Kadyn didn't bother with him and spoke to Rayna. "I suppose this kid's father was your first husband?"
Ryana bit her lip and nodded. Calak, who was at the side, couldn't hold himself and said. "Though you have saved our child, it doesn't mean you can interfere in our private life."
Kadyn once more ignored Calak and asked Rayna. "Don't you want to know the perpetrator behind this incident?"
Hearing his words, everyone left stunned. Especially Calak, whose face turned a little pale. He clenched his fist and grunted. "We don't know you, Sir. And you don't need to worry about our personal life. We can handle it."
"Hmm?" Kadyn glanced at him and chuckled. "What's wrong, Mister Calak? Why are you spacing out? I thought you loved your son and wife very much. However, it doesn't seem you care about your son much, as you don't have any intention to find who did this. What would you do if that person does something more insane next time?"

"Of course, I want…"
"Then it settled," Kadyn said. "I have already found a person who poisoned your son."
"Really?" Rayna said and gritted her teeth in hatred. "Who did this? I'll make him pay!"
Kadyn chuckled coldly and looked at Calak. "Mister Calak, do you know who is the person behind this?"
"How would I know?" A cold sweat covered his forehead as he said.
"Oh, you don't know?" Kadyn said with a sigh and peered at Calak and said. "Then let me tell you."
"Who is he?" he asked.
From the side, Elora and Rayna looked at the duo strangely and felt that something was amiss. Elora thought for a moment and a light appeared inside her eyes. She seemed to understand something.
Kadyn was silent for a moment. Then he stared at Calak and his eyes turned cold as he stated. "It was you!"
"Wh-what nonsense are you talking about? Why would I do something to my son? I love him!" Calak turned pale and screamed. He held Rayna's hand and said. "Let's go, we are leaving."
Rayna hesitated and said to Kadyn. "Sir, you must have made a mistake. Calak isn't that kind of person. He can't do such a thing." She shook her head.
"Did you hear that, boy?" Calak sighed in relief when he heard Rayna's words. His confidence once more blossomed. "You don't need to worry about our family." He said and started to drag Rayna by her hand.
"Hold on a second."
Calak turned around and stared at Kadyn before speaking coldly. "Boy, don't go too far."
Kadyn ignored him and looked at Rayna and said. "I don't have any intention to poke my nose where it doesn't belong. However, you are going to work here from now on. Therefore I thought about warning you. Otherwise, you will have only yourself to blame if you realise it too late."
"What is he saying?! Calak said and twisted Rayna's hand. "You are going to work here? How dare you make such a decision by yourself? Are you cheating on me?"
"Calak, you…" Rayna turned pale when she heard his words. It was the first time something like this Calak had said to her. He was always kind and caring. What happened to him? She was bewildered.
Kadyn's face turned completely dark as soon as heard Calak's voice. At this moment Khrom walked out from the Practice Room. Kadyn saw him and a cruel smile appeared on his face. "At first I just wanted to warn her about you. But now I've changed my mind." He glanced at Khrom and pointed towards Calak. "He had done something unforgivable. I want you to make him confess his crimes. Can you do that?"
Khrom nodded at Kadyn and walked towards Calak. "You… what are you trying to do?!" a terrified expression appeared on his face.
Khrom looked at him and grinned. "You are just a normal human but you dare to shout here, huh?" Khrom hit Calak's hand that held Rayna's wrist. The man grunted, and tumbled back, as a searing pain penetrated into his flesh. "Yu… you, what…"
"Confess!" Khrom interrupted as his cold voice sounded. Calak shrank back when he heard him and he said with a trembling voice. "I-I didn't do anything."
"Trying to act tough, huh?" Khrom chuckled and appeared in front of Calak in a blink. Before he could resist, Khrom twisted his hand and slapped him on the ground. The man moaned and groaned and struggled, but to no avail.
"Don't do this, please." Ryana turned pale and pleaded to Kadyn. "He could never do such a thing. I have known him for many years."
Kadyn looked at her and said. "I'm not doing this because I want to prove that he is the culprit behind your son's poisoning." He turned towards Calak and went on. "However, he dared to insult me. Loose tongue could have terrible consequences. Now he needs to pay for his loose tongue."
Rayna turned pale when she saw Kadyn's expressionless face.
"Do it!" Without giving her a second glance he said to Khrom. The latter grinned cruelly when he heard his command. He was already hiding so much anger inside his heart that he didn't know where to ease his agony. Now he had found a prey he would torment it thoroughly.
He drew a sharp dagger from his back and smirked at Calak. "Confess, or every ten seconds you will lose a finger and then an entire limb. After that ears and nose. Followed by eyes… What do you say? Have you decided to confess?"
As he heard Khrom, Calak turned pale and his body quivered. Then a strange smell permeated the surrounding area.

A young provincial thief of no particular renown has his life of crime changed in a day. He ‘stumbles’ upon a huge pile of gold for starters and soon after a dead man carrying a letter of 'royal' interest. Literally. While at it he ‘earns’ a title of sorts, along the promise of a life out of the gutter. The whole affair seems to cry out for a gallant hero of old, or failing that a cunning diplomat, but he’s neither. Perhaps a lying scoundrel, which our lad definitely is, would have to suffice. He does ‘acquire’ a dagger that knows a dead language after all and that must count for something. The Old Realms series: Touch O' Luck (Finished) Lure O' War (Ongoing) Wings O' Fate First chapters will be uploaded immediately. After that there will be updates every 3-5 days. Cover artwork by @IntheBlackveil All tags are relevant but most chapters are not too extreme. Fair warning dear reader, this is an 'unfiltered' story, sometimes sweet, others bitter, touching some heavy subjects or problems, like crime, war, betrayal, pride, politics, revenge etc set in a Epic Fantasy backdrop with shades of Grimdark. In its heart of hearts though, it is an adventure.

Shared Universe with my other story, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/41575/the-archivists-petty-revenge Also posted on Scribblehub. Based on the description of traumatizing content, it's worth noting that this series normalizes tax evasion and other such crimes. Also is vaguely GirlsLove-ish.

After the End: Serenity
We all want to believe we are heroes of our own story - unless we want to be the villain, of course. At the end of everything, the Final Reaper decided he hadn’t been a hero. Driven by a desire to right the wrongs he was subjected to, he killed everyone who wronged him or his people - which turned out to be everyone that wasn’t killed by someone else first. He'd won - but it was a hollow victory. Eventually, Order’s Voice found a way out. If the only existing being would agree to give up most of his power, the Voice could reset the multiverse to an earlier time with a few minor changes. Of course, the Voice couldn't ask it that way. It could only ask if the Final Reaper was willing to start over from when Earth was first brought into Order. It was an easy decision, and yet it wasn’t. Was he willing to go through eons of pain again to not be alone? Yes. In a heartbeat. Not that his heart beat anymore. Now it would. Perhaps he could even be a hero, this time. When he landed in his old body - more or less - on Earth, the Final Reaper once again became Thomas. He was both and neither. He needed a new name for a new life. Serenity. ------------------------------------------ While this is technically a System Apocalypse story, it's a System Apocalypse that is designed to have a large percentage of the population survive and prosper. There are a lot of problems that come with the appearance of the Voice, and it's entirely possible to lose. Earth has some special opportunities, but also special challenges. The first time around, Earth won the first round and lost the second. Serenity has ten years from when the Voice arrives to prevent that from happening. It will be a group effort; Serenity can't win alone - which is difficult for someone who's been alone for as long as he has. Of course, that's only his second priority. ------------------------------------------- Updates Daily A note on the nonhuman lead tag: He isn't human, and hasn't been human for a very, very long time (or maybe not long at all, depending on how you count it). He still thinks of himself as human, either way. The content warnings are mostly to give me room to write; this fiction is not intended to be edgy, but once in a while a character will swear or someone will get seriously injured. The cover image is a Chandra/Hubble composite image of VV 340 / Arp 302 / UGC 9618. While we're not going to space itself any time soon in the story, people from elsewhere are coming to Earth and Serenity will visit other planets. Plus, I like space imagery.
