Falling For Miss Captain : LOVE Vs DUTY Chapter 6

A beam of sunlight lightened up Yelena's lonesome room. The day had finally came. It was Marvin's 29th birthday.
After taking a shower and having a light breakfast, Yelena started to dress up herself for the day. Like she did every year, she will be visiting the place where she made some good memories with her late brother.
She scanned through the clothes that she bought the day before. Then she picked a dark gray long dress and a black platform heels. She chose a black clutch to paired with her dress.
After she finished dressing up, she stared at her reflection in the mirror for a while. Though she was satisfied with her looks, it feels foreign to her. The last time she wear such beautiful and feminine clothes would be atleast 6 months ago!
Apart from her brother's birthday, she never applied for a leave. She was always on a dangerous mission, betting her life all the time. She never had the time to wear such pretty dress.
While she was staring at her reflection and buried herself deep in her own thoughts, the sound of the door bell aroused her.
She didn't order for any room service. She didn't knew even a single person there in Belden. Then she approached the door and opened it; wondering who could it be.
A devilishly handsome man dressed in a light blue slim fit shirt with long sleeves and a black chinos was standing at the door. The man looked a bit familiar. When did she saw him before? She glanced at him with a confused face.
"Do you remember me?" Prince Felix spoke up. "Yesterday, near the Belden National Museum. I'm here to pay you back." He hinted with a friendly smile.
Yelena finally remembered the man. "That was you? I remember. But as I said yesterday, you don't have to pay me back." She wondered how he knew her place.

"Favor should always be returned." Prince Felix saw her confused face and understand her mind. "I followed you yesterday. But don't get me wrong. I'm really not a bad person." He distorted the truth a bit as it was his guards who did the work.
"I know. You didn't look like one." Yelena calmly said.
Prince Felix glanced at Yelena and realized that she was all dressed up. "Are you going somewhere?"
"I'll simply be wandering here and there."
"Can I accompany you? I'm just a tourist too."
Yelena raised a brow. She didn't expect to hear such request. If it was some other man who asked her, she would already create a barrier between them. But she somehow finds him unique.
Though the man was a complete stranger, she didn't feel uncomfortable around him. Even so, the fact that she didn't know him still remains the same. It would be thoughtless of her to accept such request. She thought of a way to turn him down.
"I have a fiance." It was the only thing that came to Yelena's mind. After all, she was telling the truth. For the first time, she thought that having a fiance was quite useful; until she heard his response.
"I will have a wife soon."
Yelena felt her jaw dropped to the floor! Her eyes grew wide open; but she instantly maintained her composure again. Why did such a man asked to accompany her? Was he not in his normal mind? Or maybe he was a pervert!
Sawing Yelena's reaction, Prince Felix's lips curved into a smile. "I'm not a playboy. It's true that I will be getting married soon. But I still don't know who will be my wife. It's up to my parents." He explained.

"Is that so?" Yelena fainted a smile. Yet she somehow felt connected to him. She finds their situation similar. Having no say in their own marriage? It was quite unfair!
"What do you say? Will you let me accompany you for today?" Prince Felix asked her once again. His warm and friendly voice would be able to melt the heart of every woman.
It's just a day. It would bring her no harm; isn't it? Besides she was quite lonely herself.
"Fine. Just today." Yelena finally agreed; without even knowing that she just made a decision which might probably change her whole life.
"By the way, I'm Austin. Nice to meet you." Prince Felix introduced himself with his middle name as he offered his right hand for a handshake. He wished to keep his identity a secret.
"I'm Macy. Nice to meet you too." Yelena did the same as she held his hand and gave him a handshake.....

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
