The Ancient Genes Chapter 497

"What the hell is wrong with him? Didn't he have a breakthrough not so long ago?" Mr. Cool muttered as he closed the door behind.
He felt the need to work hard as well. If the distance between the two increased too much then that would hurt his pride.
"Hmmm...suddenly, he sensed something…." It seemed someone had intruded their area. There was quite a distance between them and hence, Mr. Cool couldn't determine whether it is a friend or foe.
He couldn't wait for them to come near and then confirm their identity. In the end, he moved out to see who they were….
….
"So, what about you? I didn't know you had a boyfriend....did your father allowed it?" Tia Lisa with sparkling eyes, she seemed very curious about it.
As usual, when they got familiar with each other...everything in the world became a topic of discussion for them..
And this current topic was nothing too odd…
Lisa was struggling here as she denied having any such relation with Max but Tia looked at her with squinted eyes. Mr. Cool's words and Lisa's reaction from earlier seem to have given Tia some different thoughts…
"There really isn't anything like that…" Lisa said the seventh time as she looked at her.
"Really? In that case, you will be on our threat list…" Tia said as if noting it down.
"Don't worry, I don't have any interest in that creep…" Lisa said with a wry smile.
"I can't deny that he is a creep…" Venice said with a sigh.
"Hey! Don't give in so easily….at least try to lie and defend the creep….otherwise we will be the one looking like fools here.." Tia protested on hearing her.
Venice shook her head with a smile.
When Lisa felt that she was finally going to be left off the hook, Tia came back knocking….she seemed to be the type who was really interested in people 's love affair..
"Lisa..you really are beautiful and from what I heard, Max and you are obviously close...not to mention there hadn't been any other girls until recently in your group....I refuse to believe that guy hasn't made any advances on you.…" Tia said with a smile ready to dig anything and everything.

The two sides already got information on each other to the best of their capability and were now aware about other people's existence as well.
Lisa shook her head, "He isn't like that..."
"Hmmn….you know him pretty well, it seems…are you sure there isn't anything in between you two..." Tia teased with a smirk on her face.
Obviously, there was...she was his fiance...but she wouldn't be saying that…
Aside from that there wasn't anything else, they were good friends and there was nothing beyond…
A scene from the past suddenly emerged in Lisa's mind when she was proving herself that there was nothing wrong…
The passionate scene which had finally started to disappear from her dreams appeared in her mind once again.
At this moment, the structure trembled and dust fell off the ceiling.
"I will check what's going on…" Lisa had already walked out of the place by the time her words were heard.
After walking out, she breathed in relief and tried to calmed down her heart while furiously blushing.
She cursed inwardly, and was definitely not happy to be reminded of this again when she had finally started to forget about it.
When things had returned to normal and awkwardness between her and Max was gone, she had to go ahead and remember it again…
Lisa released a sigh and looked towards the stairs.
"Is there someone upstairs?" She asked looking at Kevin who had arrived with Max and was apparently busy with something that Lisa literally had no idea about. Even Twice was there helping him carry some stuff.
"Yeah, I saw Max going upstairs…" Kevin said with a silly smile.
Lisa nodded and went up wondering what he was doing above.
….
Max on the other hand didn't really look good. This thing was more dangerous than he thought it to be, he was lucky to have run out of the spirit world in time when the real outburst had yet to come…
But it was finally over now, the crisis was gone as he had managed to suppress it and only needed to slowly erase it now. He needed at least 30 minutes to get back to normal as long as nothing went wrong.

At this moment, the door suddenly opened and Max couldn't help but curse Mr. Cool from the bottom of his heart seeing the person coming in.
He had been concentrating all along and had cut off from the rest of the world thinking that Mr. Cool was out there protecting him.
Max's mind immediately became chaotic with the distraction. The crisis which should have been over began to hover above his head once again...
"What's wrong?" Lisa was shocked when she saw blood leaking out of the corner of Max's mouth. He seemed to be sweating all over as well while face had turned slightly red as if he was having a fever.
"Don't come near me!!" Max was further distracted when he spoke but he knew that he had to warn her.
There was no need to worry as long as Lisa left him quietly. The blood was just the result of him trying to use pain to keep himself clear headed while his red face and sweat were the result of his body heating up.
"Are you hurt? What's going on?" Lisa ignored his words and rushed up to him in concern.
When she touched Max, he felt as if he had been struck by lightning. The energy which he had managed to suppress finally began to show signs of going out of control once again.
He suddebly grabbed her hand and opened his eyes to meet with Lisa's.
Lisa gulped when she saw his eyes, she clearly remembered seeing those same eyes of his once before.
"W-What are you doing?'' Lisa asked nervously as she averted her gaze.
"Don't resist and hold onto me tightly. Otherwise, if I lose it, it will be something even worse than this….believe me...I don't want to harm you..." Max's voice was hoarse and he seemed to be at the end of his limit.
With those final words, he pulled her hand and used the other to wrap around her waist as he locked her lips with his own.
Lisa's eyes were wide open, but she was asked not to resist….but why should she not...she wasn't….suppo..s...e..
Lisa's thought slowly came to a halt and unconsciously, her hands wrapped around Max's neck.
The two didn't seem to notice but the half open door had fully opened for a few seconds in between before being quietly closed again.
The three people standing outside were Mr. Cool, Lear and Mark.
Mr. Cool had gone to see the intruders and it turned out to be Lear and Mark who had finally returned.
Lear was curious to see Mr. Cool when he clearly remembered messaging Max that he had arrived.
But after Mr. Cool said that Max seemed strange and might be having some kind of breakthrough, he didn't think much of it.
They had come back and immediately came up to check on him. Seeing that the door was half open, they naturally thought that Max was done….but after seeing what was going on, it seemed he was far from being done at all...instead he might be just getting started….
"We didn't see anything…." Mark calmly said, he obviously cared about his friend.
"Didn't he say he has a girlfriend? Is this guy cheating? Two timing?'' Lear frowned, thinking about it.
"Let's not have any opinions about this…" Mark spoke once again.
"Yes, let's not bad mouth anyone..who says you can't love two people at once...if you ask me love shouldn't determine by numbers….as long as a girl wants to fall in my arms, my arms will always be wide open for her…" Mr. Cool said with a smile only to be ignored by the two.
'Wait! That guy's girlfriend is Elly. Isn't she Lisa's good friend? Lisa also knows that Max and Elly are in a relationship…and yet....' Lear suddenly seemed to have realised some dark truth and shuddered.
It seemed there were many things more scary than the demons in the world....

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
