The Ancient Genes Chapter 451

Max sat in the backseat of the car with Elly and left for Lorenz Mansion.
"Look I understand what you did and why you did...but you didn't have to go that far…" Max looked at her with a bitter face. He didn't like the noble society and didn't treat himself a noble as well.
It wasn't a surprise that he let it slip from his mind earlier….and ended up not realising that the place wasn't suitable for a person of his stature...and even if he wanted to go, he shouldn't have done it so openly....
"How did I take it so far? I only said you were my boyfriend. There shouldn't be much of a problem..." Elly replied as she looked at him.
"You really have no problem with this thing? You really don't wanna get out of this mess? Such an important decision of your life and you don't even get to decide it yourself...don't tell me you are fine with it." Max asked as he looked at her with a frown.
"I am fine with it…." Elly replied as she looked outside the window.
Max looked at her and couldn't help but ask with a frown, "Don't you ever wanna speak your mind?"
"Why does it matter to you? You want to break the engagement...you shouldn't be concerned with me in that case….do what you think is right..."
Max's frown deepened and he grabbed her arm and turned her towards him, "Why do you keep acting like that…say it clearly...I don't want your grandpa and all...I just want to know what you are thinking..."
Elly shook his hand off and looked at him, "Fine, I will do it now!! Don't go looking for those cheap girls when I am here…Why can't you just accept this?!''

"You really think we are a good match?'' Max asked as he looked at her
"We aren't the worst…besides, arranged marriages are common in noble society....this is how it would have been for me….if it wasn't you, it would have been someone else and I still would have done the same….."
"I wanna move ahead with it...if we don't even try we won't get anywhere….it's true that I don't love you but what's so strange about it we have been friends for less than a week.....but still when I found out it was you, I was relieved. After all, it could have been a lot worse...but I think I celebrated too early…it would have been better if it wasn't you...at least I wouldn't have a false hope…but it's not the first time that my hopes got shattered...I guess I need to get used to it now..." Elly said and turned her head away.
"Anyways, even if you plan to break the engagement. You are free to do and I won't blame you...but until you can do so...please refrain from any action like that of today…."
Max looked at her, but didn't reply. He could understand her words. This was what he was afraid of...he might not be emotionally invested in this but what about her….he is not taking it seriously but she definitely was.….he wasn't used to the way of nobles society and didn't care for it...but that might not be true for her….
Maybe he was doing wrong to her…..but what about his own will? It was his fault for not clarifying things with the old man but…does that mean he had to accept all of this now?
And there was still Lisa….you can't just f*cking ask him to be with two people at the same time…

Max began to have a headache. Why were things not going his way?
He looked at Elly who had turned her head away. But what was he supposed to say…how could he comfort her when he was source of her problem…..
The two kept a silence all the way to the Lorenz House.
"It doesn't seem like they are in the best mood…" Loren Lord said as he snooped on them from the window.
"And whose fault do you think it is? They obviously had a fight over it…" Sirius looked at him, the old may was playing a fool pretending not to know.
….
As soon as Max entered the mansion, he went towards his room.
"You look tense? Is everything fine?"
Max turned his head on hearing the voice and his eyes flickered for a second.
It was Ifrit.
"No, it's nothing…" Max replied as he scanned him. Unexpectedly, he couldn't feel any demonic aura from him at all.
Why did he retract his aura?
Max was not sure. He still couldn't figure out anything about this person. He worked like any other guy and there was nothing suspicious about him.
"Well, it's fine then...anyway, Sir Sirius has called for you…" Ifrit said with a smile.
Max nodded and went towards Sirius's chambers wondering what it was now…
...
On the other side…
"You are back, Elly?" Lisa asked as he looked at her.
But Elly ignored her and directly walked into the washroom and slammed the door shut.
Aria and Lisa exchanged a look. This wasn't like her…..
Elly held her head inside the washroom a bit was depressed. She didn't know why she said all those things….
It wasn't like her to lose calm….
"What am I doing?"
….
Max looked at the two people in the room. Well, he was expecting to see the Lorenz Lord soon. Just what forced the old man to give her granddaughter to a guy like him who already had someone….
Just what was this person looking for…..
"Sirius…." Lorenz Lord spoke.
Sirius stood up and then left the room. The old man then looked at Max and asked, "Why don't you take a seat? I am sure you have some questions in your mind as well…"
Max sat in front of him.
"Go ahead…" the old man said as he looked at him.
"Why me?" Max asked as he looked at him.
"Because you can protect her and probably keep her happy as well...at least you won't make her sad….I believe it…'' the old man replied.
"I think there are a lot of people who could do better than me in that aspect…." Max replied.
The old man shook his head, "I want to protect her from the Ancient Families…you still think there are a lot of people?"
Max's brows twitched when he heard that.
"Why do you need to protect her from the Ancient families?"
The old man looked at him, "Has she told you about her parents?"
Max shook his head.
The old man sighed and then finally he began to talk….

The Morgulon
Greg never really wanted to become a werewolf hunter. He just wanted to prove to his father that he could do the job his family was famous for, maybe earn some money while he’s at it. He certainly never wanted to become a werewolf, or run away from home, or fight the inquisition. Unfortunately, as his brothers would say, fate has a shitty sense of humour. Updates on Mondays. "I feel like this story perfectly represents how you can't judge a book by its cover (or, in this case, concept). Edgy badboy werewolf teen romance? Yeet that concept out the window and get ready for an action-packed fantasy with an incredibly built world and logical, realistic characters." "This is a great story, probably better than any werewolf novel I've read. It's certainly not a typical werewolf story (but don't let that stop you from reading it, the werewolves are still amazing.)" "A werewolf story where people aren't constantly meeting gruesome ends that still maintains a gritty atmosphere. Realistic worldbuilding and character design make this a must read!" - RR reviews The first chapter is also on DeviantArt, more may follow.

The Adventurer's Guild(master)
In a world of adventure, magic, and kingdoms, only one man can keep it all from falling apart. As much as he wished that wasn't the case. This is the story of the man who became the guild master of the most prestigious adventurer's guild in the kingdom, and then came to completely regret that decision, as he is forced to keep the peace, file paperwork, and babysit adventurers. The life of a guild master is not as great as it once seemed. Note: The prologue is an extended -probably should have not took it that far- joke and is completely skippable from the rest of the series. This is my first work on this website, or on any website to be honest, so criticism is more than welcome. Feel free to leave comments on any chapter, not just the latest one.

Raven: The Beginning
'What's the worst that could happen'? is what I thought to myself as I entered the World of the Veil with a new, experimental machine that the company created. I was originally excited to participate in their alpha test, and now, looking back, I was just a naive little girl that didn't know what it was like to truly suffer. Sarah was one of the world's best assassin players, but she wasn't prepared for getting stuck as a low-level player in a new game. Suddenly she has to struggle just to survive against the monsters of the world, while also keeping her secret from the authorities. What happens when the killing, and the consequences, are just too real? Author's Note (and a Warning): This book is about a normal person that is forced into a fantasy / medieval environment. What could possibly go wrong with our heroine? This novel is a sort of, legacy. I wanted to at least put it out there before I passed away due to a combination of financial difficulty, homelessness, job loss, and my last interview taking up the last of my savings (which I did not get the job). If by some miracle, and I get a job that can give me a pay advance by next week (4/8) and I survive this turbulent time, I will edit this - and the formating of the book). If you are so willing, please donate on my patreon page. Regards, Dave

Daily life of a cultivation judge
Tired of those cultivators who think it is righteous to eliminate a sect or clan root and stem all in the name of revenge and avoiding future troubles, fights over treasures that end up destroying cities with no consequence whatsoever to the culprit, these psychos whose aim for the peak always involves a trail of carnage and bloodshed in its wake for some reason. Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
