The Ancient Genes Chapter 436

Max sat in the spirit world. His eyes were closed. There was a demonic core of peak grade Savage beast in his hand.
In the wild he would need to fight a bloody battle to get this thing in his hand and now he just needed money….still it was very expensive. Max's heart bled when he had paid out…after all, he was not used to spending like this….
Soon, the core began to melt and the mana from the core was being absorbed rapidly by the spirit energy….
The crystal core in Max's body was being refined continuously under the flow of spirit energy.
A shadow of a crown emerged on Max's head and his wings came out of his back. Initially there was only a pair of black wings but now another pair was rapidly growing on his back.
"Boom!"
The spirit energy suddenly busted out of Max's body as he made the last push and broke through the limit entering the 3rd Wing of Fairy Arts.
The third part of the tattoo on Max's body was finally lit….it was giving out a green glow….
"Domain!" Max muttered and next instant spirit energy rushed out of his body. His area of control wasn't that big, it was still his first time….but Max really felt that he was invincible within the domain.
He had full grasp of control over the elements under this domain. Unless there was a huge gap between powers enough to overcome his control, Max could easily cut off a person's strength by seizing the mana and isolating him….
Max opened the system to check about the ability he had gained.
«Spirit Domain»
User can use spirit energy to cast a domain heightening his Elemental abilities and assert a strong control on them. The degree of control varies according to the size of the domain.
'Hmmn..' Max looked and it wasn't much different than what he had expected. He closed the screen and stretched out his body
Max then turned around and went to have a look at his mom as he planned to leave and take a rest for the night.
After all, he knew the next day was going to be a tough one…as there was his Welcoming celebration in the evening.
"Sera…" Max smiled when he saw her with the gang.
"Max, you are done with your training?" Sera immediately jumped towards him, seeing Max coming.
"Yeah…" Max nodded awkwardly. Her tone and expressions had changed once again. She seemed to have matured a bit once again.
There was a saying that you only need to take your eyes off of your children once and you won't even notice when they would change….
Max felt that it was ridiculous but looking at Sera, maybe there was some truth in it...
….
Edwinson House, Capital….
The situation in the room was as terrible as it could possibly be.
"What is it now, Lorenz? Just leave…." Lisa's grandfather felt a headache when they once again ended up at the starting line.
But this time, Lorenz Lord didn't look at him but looked at Edwinson Lord.
"I won't back down today…" His momentum suddenly soared.
Edwinson Lord's face turned ugly. He looked at Lisa's grandfather and he wasn't any better than him...

Everything was going well until Sirius arrived. Just what did he show the old man…
"You can't win against the two of us…'' Lisa's grandfather said as he looked at him with a serious face.
"I know. But let me say this, I don't have a choice. Either you accept my request or kill me here…." Lorenz Lord said with a helpless smile.
He was being serious. He didn't want to fight them. Even if he did, he wouldn't kill anyone.
He only gave them some friendly advice because if he left the place alive with rejection, he would surely silence Max to protect Elly's secret….
It was true that Max was someone important to the Ancient Families but it wouldn't matter if no one could find out who the killer was…..and even if they found out, he still would be able to hide Elly....he was willing to bear consequences....at most, he would lose his head....there was no way that they would go overboard....after all, even if they were weak...they were the one maintains the peace...if Lorenz Family was destroyed....it would surely kick up a major storm....
It surely wasn't a good or righteous thing to do...but it didn't matter much in comparison to the safety of Elly.
Lisa's grandfather frowned when he heard his words. He knew him very well. He could feel that there was some underlying meaning in his words…..
At this moment, Sirius suddenly stepped in to lighten the environment. He knew what the old man was thinking.
Sirius wouldn't want Max to die. The kid was unusual. He still had yet to find out what made him so strange that even Ifrit was praising the kid..
"My Lord, is not good with words….let me help out…" Sirius said as he stepped forward to help.
"The truth is our Young Miss has feelings for Max too..." He further said and showed something which shocked everyone. Until now they only had suspicion Max was two timing...but now…they had confirmed it.
The CCTV footage showed the scene when Max had wiped out Elly's tears. But this scene was being shown from the side. It looked like they were kissing…
Obviously, Sirius knew the truth. He had checked every CCTV footage and seen it from a different angle too that Max didn't kiss her. But that wasn't something he needed to say here….
'That brat!!!!' Edwinson Lord was angry. Now this has turned into a huge problem.
'That girl!!!! Look what happened, I told her!!!' Lisa's grandfather didn't know whom to blame. Obviously, he wanted to kill Max and Elly but then he had to kill Lisa as well for being the mastermind..
"We will give up on breaking the engagement between Lisa and Max…but we still insist on engagement between Max and Elly…" Sirius said with a smile.
"Impossible!!!" Lisa's grandfather firmly rejected it.
"Sir, you are too eager to refuse. I heard that it was Lisa who had sent Max with Elly...is it possible there is something we are missing?" Sirius asked with a smile. He had a hunch.
He had seen Lisa and Max. They didn't look like a couple in love at all. He felt something was amiss…after all, if they were really a couple, there was no way that the girl would allow someone else to be together with Max...

Lorenz Lord looked at Sirius but didn't refuse. He didn't know what to do….he knew that Elly wouldn't refuse if he asked. But was it the right thing to do....on the other hand, he knew that he might not be capable of protecting the child if things went out of hand...
Max's grandfather was silent. If he thought as a Lord, it was beneficial. But as a grandfather, he felt that he had to talk it with Max….
"Why don't we bring Lisa and Max to discuss this matter?" He said as he looked at everyone.
"What is there to discuss?" Lisa's grandfather frowned.
"Relax, we ask the two of them about this….if even one refuses then there is no more discussion…." The old man said as he looked at Lord Lorenz. This was his bottom line….
….
Max opened his eyes as his sleep was broken by the ringtone of his phone. He rarely slept much these days and when he really wanted to, someone was there to disturb him late at night…
"Hello?" Max said as he brought the phone near his ear.
"Max…" An aged voice came through the phone.
"Old man?" Max got up recognising that it was his grandfather's voice.
He looked at the time and it was 2 am….
"What's wrong?" Max asked with a frown.
"Come out of your room, right now…" the old man said.
Max walked out of the room with a strange expression and saw the old man standing right outside.
"What the hell are you here for?" Max asked with wide eyes.
The old man didn't say anything and just grabbed Max. A few minutes later, Max was standing in the old man's mansion back in Edwinson territory.
"Can you explain what's going on?" Max asked as he looked at him.
"It's about your marriage…" the old man said in a solemn voice.
"You are kidding me? You dragged me late at night to discuss my marriage? What the hell is wrong with you?!! Why are you people so obsessed with marriage?!!!" Max was already annoyed for being dragged out at this time, plus he was annoyed after his conversation with Elly….and now again hearing the word 'marriage' he finally snapped…
"Goddam it!! Leave me alone…." Max sighed when he vented it out…
The old man looked at him in surprise. He didn't understand why the kid was so angry when he didn't even explain anything….was her frustrated because of this whole marriage thing with Lisa?
"You don't want to marry Lisa?" The old man suddenly asked.
"Of course, I don't. We are just good friends. It was just a misunderstanding. Her grandfather has misunderstood us….he isn't even willing to listen to us." Max sighed as he told him.
"You should have just told me about it? You think that old man can't protect you?" He said with a snort.
Max shook his head, "You want to be my bodyguard 24/7? Lisa's grandfather said he will kill me if I don't marry Lisa…"
Max knew that he couldn't stop her grandfather. Not to mention, even if the old man was willing to guard him 24/7, Max wouldn't want that….he didn't want to lose his freedom...he had too many things that he wanted to hide…Not to mention, this old man couldn't even protect his son and daughter in law...he would give him protection? What a joke….
"You think I am scared of him?" The old man asked with a look.
"You can't even protect your own son and daughter in law? Can't even keep your own people in control but you sure dare to say some ridiculous things…" Max said with a snort.
The old man's face twitched, when Max slapped him with the harsh reality.
"Let it be, this marriage is not something you can stop…" Max said as he looked at him. Only Lisa could stop it, only if she could talked it out with her grandfather.
"How can I? It's about your happiness…." The old man said with a sigh. He had truly lost sight of too many things and by the time he realised it, he was very far away from them..
"I don't understand? This marriage will benefit the family….why are you being a nice grandfather all of a sudden? It's time to be a Lord old man….you don't need to show me love...if you can control your family that will make me more happy...so do your job properly...."
"Is this really what you want? Isn't there someone else you like?" The old man suddenly asked Max as he turned around to leave. He was taking about Elly.....
"None….." Max said and then suddenly turned his head, "Do you think I had the leeway to fall in love?"
The old man knew why those words were directed at him.
Max didn't want any distraction after he passed the trial, but what before that?
He might have actually liked someone if he was raised like any other kid….and didn't have a lonely life because of a certain someone's decision...
Max didn't blame him anymore, but the truth won't change.
With that, Max unfurled his wings and disappeared into the sky through the window.
The old man knew the footage didn't show the truth. Max's tone had made it clear. He didn't want to love anyone...
A few minutes later, a figure arrived in the room.
It was Sirius.
Sirius had witnessed Max's frightening senses and hence retreated leaving only two of them here. He had no idea what had happened and looked at the old man.....
…..
Lisa was fast asleep when the two old men had arrived above the mansion.
"You stay here….if you try to frighten her, I won't show any mercy to you…" Lisa's grandfather warned the Lorenz Lord.
They had come here to get Lisa's opinion on the matter. Lisa's grandfather would have loved to take a walk and just return saying that Lisa rejected...but this old man had followed behind him…

The Loyal Ones [Dark Biopunk Fantasy]
TLDR; A slave monster survives horror, war and servitude, while trying to live with himself. Thralls are a race of monstrous slave soldiers, in a universe where biological magic takes the place of technology. Centuries ago, their ancestors were desperate humans, who volunteered to be transformed for the Poison War. Today their unfortunate descendants are still soldiers and laborers. In contract law they are 'corporate wards'; slaves owned largely by arms dealers. Dally Harper starts this story as a champion cage fighter. He is one of the 'lucky' ones. It's all downhill from there. Content Warning: Explicit violence and gore, slavery, implied sexual assault. None of these are framed as positive or glorified, however they do have a strong impact on the plot and main characters.
