The Ancient Genes Chapter 380

After Max and Lisa walked out of the room, the room plunged into silence. No one knew what to say, they couldn't even comprehend what just happened.
"Did you know about it?" Aria asked Elly.
"Well, I knew about the incidents that happened in the past. But I didn't know they had become friends after that…they looked more like enemies though..." Elly replied with a shrug as she remembered the past.
"I think they are good friends though. I even saw him at Lisa's House." Janet suddenly said as she explained what happened back then.
"Something like that happened?" Elly asked in surprise.
"Yeah, what shocked me the most was how he mercilessly beat Lisa up and not even her father could do anything to him…" Janet said in surprise.
"That is indeed surprising…" Elly replied, it seems there was something else here.
Aria realized it as well. If he received such kind of treatment from Lisa's family, then there must be something special about him.
Suddenly, Aria frowned as she put her finger on her lips and gestured others to keep quiet.
Elly and Janet immediately turned quiet.
As Aria concentrated, she could hear faint noises. They sounded like….screams.
"Somethings wrong!" Aria got up from her seat and immediately dashed out of the room.
Elly and Janet were taken back by her actions but soon, they came back to their senses.
Elly immediately followed while Janet took Lilly in her arms before leaving the room as well.
….
Aria was fast on her feet and within a few seconds she was out of the manor but the scene before her eyes sent a shock through her body.
"What is this?"
Flames were raging in front of the manor. People were lying on the ground while there were some screaming on the ground. There wasn't a single person standing, it looked like as if someone had gone on a massacre here.
In the center of all of this, Max stood there with a calm look on his face.
"Scree!!!"
Suddenly, Aria looked above to see a phoenix flapping its wing and spewing out flames as if it wanted to raze the ground to ashes.
"Is he trying to get killed?" Aria frowned as she began to move in order to stop Max but before she could get out of the gate somebody stopped her.
Aria turned around to see Lisa grabbing arm.

"What are you doing? We need to stop this madness! If not, people might die..." Aria couldn't help but raise her voice a bit after seeing the scene.
"He knows what he is doing. Just leave him…." Lisa said with a sigh. Actually she didn't know what he planned but she would have to follow him. After all, he was the leader.
"Y-You!! It's not the time to joke...leave me…" Aria said urgently as she glanced at Max.
"What is this?!!" Janet's voice was full of shock. She just couldn't believe her eyes.
Elly looked at the scene with a frown not knowing what was going on. She then looked at Aria and Lisa before walking towards them.
"What's going on?"
Aria looked towards Lisa as well.
"Those guys came for revenge. He was forced to fight back in self-defense…" Lisa replied, taking Max's side.
Elly looked at the scene….
How in hell could that be called self defense? Even if it was self defense, it was like an elephant acting against an ant in self-defense.
Just how many people were lying on the ground, she couldn't even count.
….
"My Lord, this…" the old butler's voice reached the old man who was looking at the scenes from his place.
"Sigh! I didn't know he was that much of a monster…" the old man felt a headache. He was now worried whether these would leave the young ones with a trauma.
"Are there any casualties?" The old man asked with a serious expression.
"None.."
"Oh! He has control over his powers? Its a relieve…..let him do it then...as long as there are no deaths among the young, it won't be a problem…"
….
Max looked at the scene with calm eyes. These guys were way weaker than he thought them to be…
He had been thinking to get the Noble Houses on his side but now Max was doubtful, if these people were the future pillars the he didn't dare to imagine the future.
What really surprised him was that these people lacked technique, they lacked uniqueness. They couldn't even efficiently use their own power.
This wasn't the first time that Max had thought about this. It was the same in Arcane too. Though these people were better than the Arcane bunch in terms of technique and efficient use of mana, but it wasn't by much. It was just that these people had a higher average power base. At least by two to three grades.

"Hmmn...he is finally here…" Max muttered as a blinding light suddenly tore through the raging flames and whistled towards Max while slicing the land.
As the white light was about to hit Max, the Phoenix let out another screech as it immediately descended leaving behind a trail of fire in the sky.
"Boom!"
The explosion immediately sent everything flying and cleared the battlefield of the people lying around.
When the dust cleared, Max was still standing at the same spot. The Phoenix had become mutilated after the collision but it seemed to be slowly recovering to its original form.
"Finally here…" Max said with a smile but there was none on Nathan's face.
"You took it too far…." Nathan said as he looked around and the next instant a sword of white light conjured in his hand.
"So what are you going to do now?" Max asked as he looked at him.
"Fight it out with you…" Nathan replied as he pointed his sword at him.
Max was surprised at his reply, he was pretty sure that he would say something like, 'to kill you' or 'to beat you up'
"It seems you realize it too…" Max said with a smile.
"It doesn't matter, do you think I will just stand by after you did all of this…" Nathan said as he moved.
With a flash of light, he immediately appeared above Max and swung the white blade down.
Max didn't use the Phoenix but decided to face him with his own body. As the blade was about to touch Max's head, Max moved. He titled to the side and bent his body. His fingers formed into a fist and the next instant his fist flew out like a canon and embedded into Nathan's abdomen.
"Bang!"
"Splash!"
Blood spilled out of his mouth, as Max heard something crack.
"Whoosh!"
Nathan flew out like a bullet before slamming into the ground. But the guy was resilient. As soon as he crashed, he used the moment from the fall to roll back and get back onto his feet.
"It's clear...why don't you admit defeat now?" Max said with a smile. He was curious about his response. This was time for him to decide, whether this guy was needed or not….
"You need to kill me for that…" Nathan said as he smiled and rushed towards Max.
"Suicidal b*stard….do you really think I don't dare to kill you here." Max suddenly moved.
Nathan failed to see anything and the next thing he knew was his face crushing unto the ground below.
Max stepped on the back of his head as he pushed his head further into the ground.
"Why don't you beg me? I might let you live…." Max said with killing intent leaking out of him.
"Don't do anything foolish brat!" Suddenly the old man's voice rang in Max's ear.
"Don't worry, I know what I am doing…." Max replied with calm.
After that, he ignored his blabbering and continued with the issue on hand.
"So what are your thoughts? Ready to beg?" Max asked.
"In your dreams, I will never beg for my life. Just kill me.." Nathan spoke in a determined tone.
"Why go so far? Don't you have anything better to do with your life?" Max asked.
"This is the best thing I can do right now…"
As soon as he said that, his body began to emit a light. Max immediately took a step back and avoided his clothes from getting dirty.
"Boom!"
Mana exploded out of his body as Nathan rose from the ground his body was turning white, his features were becoming vague.
Nathan looked at Max who was standing in the distance and raised both his hands towards him.
The mana in the surrounding immediately began to gather around him as a ball of light in front of his palm in mid-air.
"Not bad…this guy is called a celestial for no reason…" Max was certainly impressed. He didn't know what sort of spell or attack it was. But the power behind it was enough to vaporize even an Expert Tier Mage.
But for some reason, Nathan didn't release the attack. It was clear from his trembling body that he couldn't hold that much amount of energy for much longer.
But he still refused to shoot….
"What? You are not going to shoot?" Max asked with a smile.
"You really are an assh*le…." Nathan said as he glanced at the people a few meters behind Max.
The next instant, he lost control of the energy. The mana immediately turned chaotic around Nathan and he cursed, "F*ck! What a horrible way to die…"
"Boom!!!"

Path of the Ancients
When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled. One unregistered illegal Mage by the name of Tyrial had made it his life's mission to dismantle the Conclave at any cost. After spending decades working towards his goals alone, he realized he would need the aid of willing allies in his crusade. Tyrial would need all the help he could get learning to work with others, dealing with his own dark past, and handling unfamiliar feelings of romantic interest. Runicka: Tournament of Monsters (A GameLit Card Game Fantasy)
The runes are changing, and with it, the game itself changes. Taygion Ardwella finds himself stranded, alone, and on the run from some very determined guards who claim Tay's stolen from them. They're right, but that shouldn't mean Tay has to give back what he took. He's only been in Stormwall for a week and already, he's earning the ire of the most powerful and notorious House that controls the city's underground. And when their scion challenges Tay to a duel of cards, Tay will find himself thrust into a game of sorcery and strategy as he attempts to both find a way out of this mess and find his own way in the world. To do both, he'll need to learn to accept guidance and coaching where it's sorely needed, craft a deck of unimaginable power, and not die whenever his opponents try and cheat him out of a hard-earn victory. But not all is as it seems in the shadows of Stormwall, and if Tay can figure out the importance of what it is he's stolen, he may just have a chance at saving the game of Runicka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Runicka: Tournament of Monsters is a high fantasy, card game-based adventure novel with enough magic, worldbuilding, and characters to fill a Sanderson series. I would consider it a part of the GameLit subgenre. This series in particular is not an isekai, and will start and end in a high fantasy setting complete with its own lore and backstory. It is a progression fantasy, and I am writing it inspired by all the Yu-Gi-Oh mangas/animes, and all the hours I've invested/wasted (depending on who you ask) playing TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a work in progress. In your journey through Stormwall alongside Tay, you'll probably find typos, grammatical errors, and maybe a confusing sentence every once in a while (although I hope to keep these to a minimum). That said, comments and suggestions on where I can improve are not only encouraged but greatly appreciated. And finally, expect new chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Currently on a small hiatus. I have a bit of a workplace crisis going on. I'm still writing, but I don't have time to polish and publish. Chapters will return on a regular basis soon though!!**
