The Ancient Genes Chapter 369

"Yes, I did it!"
Boom!
Both Max and the old man felt a bomb dropping on their head.
"No! No! It's not-" Max tried to speak but Lisa cut him off.
"You don't need to say anything. It was my decision. I forced you to a certain extent too. Let me handle it…" Lisa said with a smile. She had to handle it on her own. Her grandpa has already smelled the blood. Since he had already deduced what they did, she might as well face him and show him her resolve otherwise, Max might have to bear the brunt of his anger.
Boom!
Another explosion rang out in the old man's head.
Lisa's words continued to ring in his head.
'It was my decision…'
'I forced you…'
The old man felt the world spinning. When did his little darling go astray? How did he not notice it?
Max hearing her felt blood rushing up his head as he felt dizzy.
'This girl will get me killed!!!'
The old man looked at them. He didn't know what to say. Times sure had changed. It seems it was time for him to go in seclusion.
"Grandpa!"
"Huh?" The old man finally broke out of his daze on hearing Lisa shout. He saw the determined look on her face. This was the first time she had seen such a resolute expression on her face.
"Grandpa….please don't tell this to father. I am sure he will stop me after finding it. But…." Lisa gritted her teeth. "I don't want to stop!"
"This is only the beginning. I want to continue on this path….please grandpa. I won't disappoint you. I will make you proud."
The old man felt blood rushing up his throat. This girl...she was asking for his permission to continue doing it and even hide it from her father….
'Wouldn't disappoint? Make him proud? How? Producing dozens of great grandchildren?'
The old man's eyes turned red and he turned to leave. Anymore he would probably spit out blood.
On the other hand, Max was looking at the scene. His face pale as if his soul had left his body.
"Grandpa!" Lisa caught his hand and stopped him.
"Please grandpa, don't be angry. I promise. I am not good enough now. But I will improve. I will work hard and train my skills. And become the very best." Lisa couldn't let him go like this. She didn't want to stay at home. Her family didn't care if her skills improved or not. They just wanted her to be safe. They would use resources to raise her Tier. But that couldn't reflect true strength….she wanted to true strength. Strength to control her powers. So she wouldn't hurt others. Only Max could help her with that….he was the only one who had idea about her powers..

The old man turned his head to look at her.
'Train her skills….technique….when did this girl become so shameless…'
Suddenly a thought emerged in his mind, could he be misunderstanding something. Her words were a bit….but she was his granddaughter….
"I know you care about me. But I want to do it. It would hurt at first and would even bleed. But isn't that same for everyone…
When the old man heard that all the thoughts that he 'might be misunderstanding' flew out of his head.
"Please Grandpa, it isn't his fault. Even now, he was here because he had been training me these days at my request."
"Lisa!!!" Max finally regained his sense. He had to put an end to this farce before the old man killed him.
"Don't interfere Max!! Stay out of this!!!" Lisa shouted and Max didn't know what to do. She was really fired up in the wrong situation.
"You have been at it for a few days?" The old man asked with wide eyes.
"Yes!" Lisa nodded with gritted teeth.
The old man's face suddenly seemed to age a few years as blood leaked out from the corner of his mouth.
Lisa didn't notice as she had been looking down while holding his hand. Max obviously noticed and began to look for ways to run.
"You two are still young, what would you do if something went wrong?"
"You don't need to worry, grandpa. Even though he doesn't look like it, he is extremely reliable. He will take responsibility. He said it." Lisa said with sparkling eyes. It seems he was finally giving in.
Max had obviously said to take responsibility for Lisa when she became his follower but that was in terms of her power and stopping her from going on rampage.
Did this girl even know what kind of responsibility was being talked about here?
"Don't worry grandpa, he knows what protection is. Even today his snake protected me, nothing will happen...I promise." Lisa said with puppy eyes.
The old man couldn't even hear her words clearly.....he was already feeling dizzy with blood rushing to his head.
'Protection...Snake... protected....' the key words rang in his head.
Max looked at her. Did she just say 'protection'? She wasn't messing around purposely, was she?
Obviously not….
'Huh? They sure know it all…' the old man thought as he let out a self-deprecating laugh.
The old man didn't know what to do any longer. They had already crossed the line...and it seems Lisa was the aggressive one….he could only sigh. This wasn't lady-like..but thinking about it, not having her mother from a young age might have resulted in her aggressive behavior. There were only men in the house after all….

There was no one to teach her….but still how did she become like this….
Suddenly a scene flashed in the old man's mind…
If he remembered clearly, Kain that grandson of his really had tons of nude and porn mags. Once the old man flew by his window and had seen him checking it.
But that was normal for teenage boys….
Could it be Lisa found it? It was possible she really went into her brother's room a lot. Did it affect her in the wrong way?
When the old man reached his conclusion, he had given Kain a death sentence.
"Grandpa…" Lisa called out one again in a soft voice.
"What is there to ask when you have already made your decision, but everything has a limit. You people are young. You still have a long life ahead and you have time to experience it…..don't over do it…." The old man never thought that he would be saying such things in his life. He still believed he was dreaming.
"And you kid come here for a second…." The old man said as he looked at Max.
"Grandpa!"
Lisa looked worried.
"Shut up! I won't do anything to him…" the old man shut Lisa up and she didn't utter another word.
Max knew there was no running away. In the end, he walked towards the old man and he took him a few feet away.
"..."
An awkward silence revealed between them.
"Umn..its not li-"
When Max tries to clear things out, the old man proved that these people really shared the same blood.
"Enough!"
"Do you think I haven't heard enough or did she leave something? Or do you want to go in detail?" The old man glared at Max.
Max didn't know what to do….what was wrong with this family.
"I only care about my Granddaughter. It is partially my fault that she is like this…so I can't blame her." the old man said with a sigh. He was blaming himself for what happened with Lisa's mother, his daughter-in-law's. He was one of the strongest yet...he couldn't even protect his family. If her mother was here, Lisa definitely wouldn't have turned like this.
"I swear on my Ancestor's grave kid. If you don't marry Lisa or make her cry after making her fall for you to such a length. I won't care whether you are an Edwinson or the Lord of an Ancient Family. I will definitely tear you apart."
Each of the old man's words were spoken with clear articulation. He even swore on his ancestor's grave. It was done…..
Max's fate was sealed.
"S-Sir…'' Max looked at him and hesitated. Would anything change if he told the truth now?
"Call me grandpa….and yes, since you two are going so fast. I will take it a step ahead too. Both of you are 17, I will have the two of you engaged by 18…..and you two don't have a say…"
The old man suddenly turned his head and looked at Lisa, "Lisa! Since you have already done it, I hope you are prepared. After a year, you won't have a chance to refuse…I will seal your fate. And don't worry, he has already agreed to it."
Lisa didn't know what his grandpa was talking about but when she heard that Max had agreed, she just nodded her head.
"Good then. After a year, I will break both of you two people's legs if you think you can just fool around…."
With that, the old man disappeared giving Max a last look. Even though he said that, Max knew that his punishment would not just end at broken bones….
"Ah!" Max held his head.
One year?
He can't possibly be able to defend himself against the old man in a year.
"What's wrong?" Lisa asked with a worried look.
"Really?" Max looked at her in anger. This was all her fault. Even though he was grateful, did she really have to make Max her lover...couldn't she have found another way.
"It's no use….I will be in trouble no matter what I do…"
"What's going on, will you tell me?" Lisa couldn't help but ask with a frown.
"Your lie is soon going to turn into a truth, Darling. We are going to be engaged a f*cking year from now!!"
Lisa looked at him dumbfounded. She didn't have a single clue what he meant...

The Good Crash: An Oral History of the Post-Scarcity Collapse
"Don't we all feel, deep down, that we deserve the apocalypse?" APRIL, 2028—Global capitalism has collapsed. America has sealed itself off from the outside world, and inside its borders, a revolution rages. All it took was one incredible little machine. That machine turned into two, then four, then eight... like a virus, the replicators spread. As a work of oral history, The Good Crash features over 50 interviews with key witnesses to the events of 2027. The text is rendered in the words used by the interviewees themselves, with light editing for clarity and concision. As such, the book contains language and themes that are not appropriate for children.By capturing the voices to the people at the very root of the revolution, journalist and historian R. Vondersnitch has traced the origins and aftermath of the replicators' rapid spread. Crucially, the book also includes perspectives and testimony from those who attempted to stop the spread of the reps. "Some of these are heroes, too, in their own ways," the author writes in the book's introductory note.
