The Ancient Genes Chapter 366

Back alley, Arena Tower, Roxley Territory.
"W-Who are you people? Why are you attacking us?" A young man barely holding his sword spoke with anger.
Out of the five people behind him, two were down and bleeding heavily.
The group of six were actually fourth-year Academy students. They were the senior students, even though it was called the fourth year, the students don't spend time in the Academy but rather outside, gathering experience.
So there were only three-year students in the Academy. Just for the knowledge, Max had just entered his second year and due to the disaster this year, the Academy all over has yet to conduct the Freshman examinations. A lot of things had been delayed and the Competitions was also one among them.
This group was just here after accepting some private mission. They didn't even know who these people were and why they were suddenly attacking them.
The group of three had just appeared out of nowhere and attacked from behind. Which not only let their targets slip out but also resulted in two of their members being heavily injured.
"Call your superiors…" the man who seemed to be leading the group of three attackers finally spoke pointing at his robe.
"Superiors?" The young man mumbled before looking at the symbol on the cloak handed out to them for the mission.
A sword hanging from the branch of an ancient-looking tree.
It all made sense now.
"I don't know anything. We are just here on a mission." The young man said glancing back at his comrade.
"Kill them….even if they are saying the truth. We just need to drag their superiors out. I would like to see if they can turn a blind eye to it…..."
The young man suddenly turned his eyes and looked above. Under the moonlight, he could see a figure sitting on the railing of the Tower looking down on them.
The aura around him seemed overbearing. When the young man's gaze met with him, he almost froze despite being an Advance Tier Mage. He hurriedly turned his head away and looked at the three approaching men and his face turned grim.
He was the strongest in his group and even he could only hold one of them.
"Clang!"
He raised his sword and immediately blocked one of the men but when the other two went past him, he couldn't help but scream, "Watch out!!"

"Bang!" The next instant a heavy noise rang out and the young man's eyes widened as the two men who had just gone past him flew from behind.
"Get lost…" the young man used this opportunity as his opponent who was shocked by the sudden change of event.
He immediately raised his knee planting it into his opponent's stomach before stunning around as he gathered earth around his feet using his mana and slamming it into his opponent's stomach sending him flying.
He then immediately turned around to look for the person who had just saved them but much to his surprise, he couldn't find anyone.
"Where are you looking? I am here…"
The young man lowered his sight to see a kid with a club on his shoulder.
"What's your name young man?" Bahamut asked.
"Uh...I am Zexter Frost." Zexter replied in a daze. Almost unconsciously as he was still processing things in his head.
"Oh! A Frost with Earth element…." Bahamut said with interest.
"Your use of mana was not bad….you have got potential….do you wanna join us, I won't treat you bad…." Bahamut further said using this opportunity to recruit some talent. Even though he was good for his age, he wasn't great. But still they were in the growth phase and would welcome anyone.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, something crashed into the ground grabbing everyone's attention.
As Max got up from the hole in the ground scratching his head, Bahamut couldn't help but ask with a frown, "What the hell are you doing?"
"I was just trying my luck. Master Tier Mages sure are quick…." Max said as he looked above.
Bahamut followed his gaze.
The man above had a grim face with killing intent leaking out of him. He was holding his neck with one hand as blood continued to flow out of the cut on his neck.
Only a centimeter or two more and he would be dead for sure.
Bahamut turned his head to look at Max….this guy just how strong was he. He almost succeeded even though it was a sneak attack.
"That mask….you are the one. Aren't you, Shura?" The man said as he sealed his wound with murky substance.
Max gave it a closer look and found it to be mud.

"That's right, I am Shura. Did the Dark Lord go crazy out of joy? He really wants to see me that much? Sending a Master Tier mage..talk about overkill…." Max said with a smile.
"The information about you was definitely false. Advance Tier Mage…...I don't see one." The man said as looked at Max with a chill in his eyes. He really had let his guard down. But even in this situation, he was confident of handling the situation.
With that, the man suddenly jumped from the towering structure.
"Mud Wave!"
The mana suddenly fluctuated and in a second the moonlight vanished as darkness covered the sky.
"You want to use water against me?"
"You want to use earth against me?"
Both Max and Bahamut spoke at the same time.
They looked at each other and smiled. This was going to be way easier than they thought.
"Disperse!" The duo spoke simultaneously and the dark cover was immediately torn apart and flown aside, colliding with the nearby buildings and covering the streets in mud.
"What!!!" The man screamed in shock. This was the first time something like this happened.
The water and the earth both had been separated from the mud and were sorted aside as if it had been filtered.
If your control at the element was worse than your opponent, there was no way for you to use it against him, there was a catch though....your opponent had if have the capability to tear apart your mana and gain control over the element.
If it was one of them, it might be impossible. But with both Max and Bahamut, they could surely rival Master Tier mage's mana.
Max's water elemental control was at a high level before and the current was unknown. On the other hand, Bahamut who solely focused on Earth element was at the Advance stage.
"What did you do?" The man looked at the duo finally feeling the danger. He didn't know that he had just found the worst duo as opponent.
"Your element won't work on us….its time to crush you…" Bahamut said with a smile as lifted his club and pointed at the man.
"Is that so? In that case, I just need to crush you with mana….not to mention there are more than enough ways for me to deal with you two…" the man spoke as he took out the saber from his scabbard hanging on his waist.
"Boom!"
Suddenly the Man exploded with mana releasing all of it at once.
The extreme pressure immediately cause strong gales to rise and cracks immediately began to spread apart in the streets.
Max stood as his cloak fluttered in the wind. Master Tier Mage were really not a joke. Even Max was not sure of causing such a scene with just the energy in his body alone.
The people behind were already blown away unable to keep their ground.
"Whoosh!" Max's eyes widened as Bahamut suddenly rushed ahead.
"Wait!" He tried to reach out to the kid but he was a second too late.
"Let me see the difference in strength!" Bahamut roared as he lifted the giant club with that little body of his and with a strong step, soared towards the man.
"Desolate Club!" Bahamut immediately activated his true spell as a layer of earth covered his gigantic club almost making it the size of a car.
Bahamut used his short and weak looking arms as he pulled the club and swung it down at the man.
The man counterattacked by lashing out with his saber.
"Bang!"
The two weapons collided. The man's feet sank into the ground but it was only because the holding was weak.
"Weak little kid…..don't underestimate me!!" The man said as he pushed the club back and the next instant the layer of earth on the club cracked.
"Bang!"
Max stood there as Bahamut went flying through the sky probably landing a few kilometers away.
"Even if you have a better control over the element, he is a Master Tier mage… " Max shook his head as he turned to look at the man.
The two of them together could easily break his control apart and now even with one of them missing, it would be a bit difficult.
