The Ancient Genes Chapter 331

Max stood in front of Wilson as he looked at Bayu.
"Whoosh!"
The wings on Max's back spread and the next instant, he shot forward exuding extreme confidence.
Bayu's face complexion turned grim and with a loud cry, he shot forward as well.
"Clang!''
Max blocked the spear and skillfully diverted it towards his side as he turned himself in the air and kicked towards his face.
Bayu immediately pulled his right hand away from the spear and blocked the kick.
"Bang!"
Max used this opportunity and using his telekinesis ability, he pulled the spear towards him.
"Don't go stealing people's stuff…'' Max mocked as a scuffle began.
Bayu smiled as he looked at Max and the next instant, the wind began to twirl around them.
Max frowned as he looked at him. What was he trying to do? Trap him?
"You are dead…" Bayu said with a smirk and the next instant flames lit in his hand.
"Flare!"
The flames rose in the sky and a firestorm began to rage in the Recycle district. The sight was even visible from a few miles away.
The Recycle district was set on blaze and blacks smoke continued to rise in to the already dark clouds.
...
Bayu turned his head towards Wilson who was still clad in lightning as his aura continued to surge.
He would kill him as well. But first he needed to make sure that Max's body wasn't disintegrated. He still needed to find out about the divine artifact.
But when he tried to pull the spear, it didn't move and th next instant it slipped out of his hands into the smoke.
"You really surprised me….but I think I understand what you are now…."
Bayu's eyes widened as he turned around to look at Max still standing as the flames dispersed.
There were a few burns around Max's body here and there but it wasn't anything serious.
"You can't use it well, your flames aren't strong enough to burn me down….." Max said as he looked at him. The guy had just used his wind which was his natural element to intensify the weak flames.
From the contact earlier and now this, Max had confirmed his feeling. This guy indeed seemed to possess awakened genes. But it obviously wasn't normal, they were being forced to be active.

Max could only think of one thing which could do that, it must be something related to demonic energy. After all, they had awakened the same way but more naturally unlike this modified experiment subject.
Secondly, it didn't seem that Bayu could do anything much with that…..he couldn't control gene abilities at all. It was not much of a surprise, how can you make something completely yours when it could never be yours to begin with and was constantly in a state of rejection. If it was that easy to create people like Max, then the Ancient Family would have probably built an arm of them by now...
'It seems that the Ancient Families are too fixated on the Divine Artifact. They are only thinking of wielding it which can be done by someone with Awakened genes, but it isn't their fault, they don't seem to be aware of the fact about the spirit energy and flow energy…..besides even if they wield the sprint shell, the spirits are intelligent creature even if they were fooled at first, they won't be fooled for a second time and form a bond....'
So, they were using it in a totally wrong way, treating it as a mere weapon and the genes as a qualification certificate to use it.
But still, it was a good thing that this guy didn't have that scythe anymore. No one could even put a scratch on it, the spirit shells weren't called the divine artifact for no reason.
Max could imagine getting split into half if this guy had hit him seriously in the very beginning. Max was really thankful to his Master for making the dagger for him.
Bayu gritted his teeth as he looked at Max.
"You wanted to show me what the true power was? Let me show you the real thing, not the copied one…."
"Flames of Nirvana"
The flames in the surrounding immediately rushed towards Max forming wings of flame behind.
Max immediately moved as he brought his spear along, his feet moved swiftly on the ground in strange pattern accompanied by the flames.
Bayu didn't seem to have any weapon in his hand and Max didn't give him any opportunity to take another one out in case he had one.

"Don't underestimate me..." Bayu muttered in anger as the wind rushed toward Max.
But the wind which was speeding, suddenly slowed down by a bit and Max smiled as he bolted towards him, "I never said that I could control the wind…"
Even though Max wasn't as good as him with wind, he wasn't bad for sure.
"Bang!"
The flames erupted with a devastating force and consumed Bayu within it. But, Max didn't seem to be done yet, he took a step and spun around pushing his spear ahead and released his true spell launching the water dragon.
"Roar!!!!!"
The water dragon bared its fang towards Bayu who desperately tried to stop it's advance with his burnt body.
"Bang!"
The water dragon raised his head with a quick turn, crashed Bayu back onto the ground before exploding.
Max slowly walked towards the guy on the ground, 'It was easier than I thought, it seems something went wrong with him…..I wonder what they did to him…'
Even though he was curious, Max didn't have time to be playing around with him any more.
Even though Max thought that taking him alive might give them some information about the Ancient family, Max knew that he didn't have the liberty to be taking hostages here. He didn't want to put this b*stard in the spirit world too. It was better to keep him away from Sera and the other spirit. Since Max didn't know what might happen.
"Sleep here for eternity then…" Max muttered as he looked at the guy whose vision seemed to be fuzzy and the water around him began to freeze and slowly he was engulfed and swallowed by the ice.
Bayu looked at Max as he felt his vision fading, 'Is this the end…..'
Was it going to end here? He hadn't fulfilled his dream…..no, everyone's dream….everyone who had died, everyone who had been left dead in the process…..if the project really failed...what was the meaning behind everyone's death? Were there lives not worth anything?
'I have to be the chosen one….'
He tried to raise his hand towards what seemed to be the light….but no matter what, he couldn't seem to reach it.
"This isn't something which you can obtain with no effort….."
"Shut up, just give it to me!!! The true supreme power.." Bayu screamed.
"You have been led astray kid, there is nothing as true power…..there wasn't one and there will never be one…..Everyone had started from the same place….If we can reach this place, you can too...."
The light faded leaving behind those words….
"No, come back!!!" Bayu screamed but it seemed that he was falling into the abyss.
"Did I fail?"
"Do you really want to have a taste of the true power kid?"
"Who is it?" Bayu looked around, but didn't find anyone except darkness.
"I will give you the power and kill everyone you desire…...don't you want to experience it? Would you let all those people's death go to vain?"
…
Max looked towards the distance, he wanted to leave but Wilson….it might not be a good idea to leave him in that state. Who knew if there were anymore enemies or not….
"Crack!"
Max's ear perked up as he heard the cracking.
"Shatter!"
"Boom!"
Max struck the ground with both his hand and immediately raised an earth wall as the explosion occurred.
His face had turned grim as he felt the chill on his skin, 'Just what is this? What in hell did the Ancient Family do?'
Max looked at his hands which had started to shake, he could feel the weight on his shoulder increasing, his immunity wasn't working…..
...
When the situation calmed down, the wall crumbled down as well, unable to stand any longer.
Max looked at the person covered around in the black miasma as he spoke, "I am alive again...."
The red eyes suddenly towards Max as he asked, "Hmmn? Descendant of that b*stard, I see….which era is this kid?"
