Well, that wasn't much. he wished it would have been more.
Huff...
Max let out a sigh.
he just needed to hold him for a while. That brown haired appeared to have a short temper. If he could avoid his attacks then, that guy would definitely lose his calm in anger.
And Max might even find a chance to counter.
But, Max still had a doubt. He meant how strong was that man. He definitely looked stronger than Max.
"Shhhnn!"
Max saw the guy pull out a sword from the scabbard hanging on his waist.
But Max didn't take out his dagger. He needed to let him have his guard down. Only then could he have a chance.
'Fine..here I go.'
He took in a deep breath before breaking into a dash.
And as expected, seeing Max empty-handed. That guy too pushed his sword into the floor pavement and spoke, "If you wanna fight empty hand, then I will let you have it."
That guy too moved and his speed was no less than Max's.
In a blink of an eye, they were right in front of each other.
Max could see the smile on the man's face. He was too confident. He was definitely treating Max as a nobody.
Well, that was what he wanted though.
Max aimed for the man's chest and punched with all his might. He wanted the man to back out so that he can use that opportunity to strike with his dagger. It was the best scenario he could imagine in his mind.
It wouldn't be easy to avoid an attack in that situation as you retreated. His only option was to block and you can probably imagine what would happen if you try to block the dagger with your hands or arms.

But, that bastard foiled his plan.
He didn't retreat and continued to aim his fist at Max face.
And Maax was the one forced to retreat.
That bastard, the smile he had on his face was really getting on Max's nerves.
"What's wrong? Don't run. Let's have a good fight. Don't you wanna leave, save all the girls behind you. You only need to defeat me. And please be quick. I don't think your friend there has much time.", He spoke with an honest face and pointed toward Axle.
Max turned his head and.... Axle's face looked pale. He had lost too much blood.
But at that moment, his eyes shifted to Lisa and she gave a nod to him.
She was ready.
Max too needed to calm down. That guy was trying to incite him.
He took a deep breath.
One more push and they could secure themselves a path.
Once they were out on the main street, the commotion would definitely attract everyone's attention and it wouldn't even take a minute for help to arrive.
So once again, Max approached the man inviting him for a fistfight.
And he took the bait.
This time, Max used the Palm Strike. The move from Vital Arts.
Even if he wanted to exchange blows, he would be the one at a disadvantage.
But something unexpected occurred at that moment.
Max could slowly see the man's movements speed up. His right hand moved in front of his body and it caught Max's palm.
He looked up and saw the crazy look and wicked smile on his face.
"Tsk..when are you going to use that dagger under your sleeves? It's getting boring.", the man spoke with sadness on his face.
His voice jolted him up.
'This bastard was messing with us.'

"Boom!"
Suddenly, a huge pressure assaulted them and forced everyone on their knees.
….
At that moment, Lisa suddenly remembered this feeling. It was the same aura she felt in the mall.
It was a Mid-level Mage!!
He was that person. He has been just messing with them until now.
She too felt her knees sink as she fell on the ground.
She tried to raise her voice and warn Max.
But as she raised her head, her eyes went wide. She felt her eyes starting to water up at the scene in front of her.

Tidal Lock

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
