The Ancient Genes Chapter 17

Right then, Max was on his way back to the Academy.
he had changed his getup back to his usual clothes and had taken a cab.
After getting himself registered, he was given an ID as a proof of his identity as an Mercenary.
Turning the card around, he found some instructions along with a link.
He took out his mobile to check the link.
Hm..
It turned out to be a site for Mercenaries. he could see various bars on the Home page with headings like Quest Board, Friends, Community, Notice Board, etc.
They really had done a lot of hard work in creating this site.
Clicking on the Quest bar, Max decides to take a look around.
7 ★ Quest: Hunt an Adult Gryphin
Reward: • 7 ★ Equipment
• 10 Million Zen
«Initiating Request ....»
«Quest: Hunt a Gryphin»
Reward: 50000 FP
«Would Host like to Accept it?»
Seeing the Quest and the notification, he shook his head in disagreement.
"No."
Only an idiot would accept that Quest.
Even though the reward was amazing, the Quest Itself was no less than walking into one's own grave. he meant Adult Gryphin could reach up to the level of 3 ★ Savage Beast.
That type of quest was only possible for those Mercenaries who in reality were Mages, but had joined for either making some extra money or for battle experience.
And besides, the 7 ★ Equipment might look irresistible to the eyes of Others.
But in the eyes of Blacksmiths like them, that was only trash in comparison to that Gryphin's Body.
Every part of that Gryphin's body was a treasure for making high grade equipment.
....
He scrolled downwards to look for something else.
5 ★ Quest: Hunt a Silver Wolf.
Definitely a No.
6 ★ Quest: Search for a High grade Fire Ore.
It looked a bit decent but still a No. That type of treasure was usually found in areas of Orena with Great Mana Density which attracted stronger beasts, too.
After scrolling down a bit, he found some suitable Quests but rejected them as they were not suitable for him.

He needed some Quest which would not interfere with his Academy life.
He should be able to do that in his own way.
As he scrolled down, a Quest catched his eyes.
1★ Quest Missing Child: A girl named Mia Rozen, 8 years old, disappeared a week ago after accidentally being separated from her parents in the Shopping Area of Central District.
Quest Initiator: Hiron Rozen (Father of the Girl)
Reward: 100,000 Zen
«Request Quest Initiating.....»
«Quest: Find the Girl»
«Reward: 500 FP»
«Would Host like to Accept the Quest?»
Hm....
It looked pretty good for a new start. Both the amount of money and FP were pretty decent too.
'System, I accept the Quest.'
«Reporting to Host, the Quest has been issued»
«Quest: Find the Girl»
«Reward: 500 FP»
"Sir, we are here."
The cab driver's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
Looking out of the window, he saw the dark sky and the lights of the Academy's Gate that glistened like gems under the night sky.
The cab parked at the entrance of the gate, as he got down and paid the driver. After that, he completed his ID check at the entrance before walking towards the Dorms.
.....
As he pushed the Door open, he was shocked.
'Fuck!'
'What happened here?'
He saw a broken table, upturned sofa, a hole in the ceiling, broken wash basin and the thing which shook him the most was the Mummified Fatty lying on the floor.
he ran up to the fatty before taking his hands into his grasp.
"Fatty, What happened? Who did this? Answer me."
But he did not respond and his hands slipped out of his grasp and fell lifelessly on the floor.
Mark's hands trembled and veins popped out on his neck, as his eyes became moist.
"WHO DID THIS? SOMEONE ANSWER ME."
He shouted in anger.
"I did it."
A voice rang out next to his ear jolting him up.
he immediately pulled out his Ice Dagger from his sleeves and prepared to face off the enemy.

'Even if I die, I will take that bastard down with me.'
Stealing his resolve, Max turned around to get another shock as a familiar figure with red hair entered his sight.
"Wilson"
He stared at him, he returned it back to him.
"Why?"
Max asked as sadness covered his face. He couldn't believe he would do something like that. He wanted to hear an explanation.
"It was this idiot's fault for being so slow," He replied indifferently, pointing towards the fatty.
Hearing him, Max felt his stomach churn in anger as his eyes turned red and yelled at him.
"That isn't a reason for you to kill someone, just because his idiocy irritates you. I can't believe you are the same guy who was talking about being a Man."
"Ha..ha.., Interesting, I thought you only knew how to cower in fear. It looks like you too have got something in you." He laughed before stretching his hands out and spoke once again with a look of madness in his eyes.
"Bring it on."
And a silence prevailed as no one made a move.
…
"Didn't you already make enough of a mess, Wilson?"
The silence was broken by Axle's voice, as he walked in with a bowl in his hands.
"Tsk, Everyone keeps spoiling the fun."
Saying that, Wilson turned around and walked towards his room.
On the other hand, Axle walked towards the fatty and kicked him.
"And you lump of fat. You just created another fight. Get up."
He kicked once again, and Max heard fatty groan in pain as he woke up.
"This is a bowl of medicine, take it and crawl back to your room."
With that, he turned around and walked back towards his room.
And Max heard his door slam shut.
'What the hell is going on?'
'I can't even imagine what could cause him to get angry to this extent.'
'No wait! I can imagine it.'
he turned towards the fatty who was struggling to get to the bowl of soup.
Only he could give him his answers.
So, he approached the ball of meat to get some answers out.
...
After a few minutes
'Sigh! I can't believe that guy.'
...
Slam!
The Door to the room opened abruptly as a guy with a strong build entered a room carrying a furious face.
Looking at the face with veins popping out of his forehead, the fatty sitting on the sofa trembled.
"WILSON!! GET OUT HERE."
The guy with the strong build let out a roar which seemed to shake the entire Dorm.
"Who is looking for his death so late at night." A red-haired guy walks out of one of the rooms while yawning.
"Wilson, I warned you to behave in the Academy, didn't I?" The guy questions Wilson as a line appears on his face.
"Huh? What are you talking about so late at night, August? If you wanna fight just get this done already."
Wilson speaks while putting a finger in his ear and taking out the dirt.
"Fine, you have done it now." August replied as his brows twitched and he finally lost his calm.
Boom.
Looking from far away, one could have seen a purple lightning and a black flame dancing around the second floor of Dorm No. 7
…
Current situation
And that was the most of it.
In the absence of Axle, those two guys wrought havoc there and the pitiful fatty got caught in it along with Axle's precious Mio-Chan figure on the table.
'And now, it seems that August will be staying with us to keep a close watch on us.'
...
Max got into his room after dragging the fatty onto his bed.
Having his dinner, Max got into his bed early. Tomorrow he had a plan to meet the father of the missing child.
Lying on his bed, he closed his eyes in hope of a peaceful next day.

Magic-Farming
A thought experiment gone out of control, inspired by kosnik4's popular story, Magic-Smithing. What would life be like for someone else who was transported to the world inside Magic-Smithing? Someone who wasn't as prone to encounter incresasingly dangerous people, whose life was a little less chaotic? What if this person was content with a simple life of farming? Tending to the plants, sowing seeds, and reaping a great harvest at the end of the year. Of course, he's also a data scientist, so he can't help but squeeze out the maximum possible efficiency of his time and the potential of his attributes. Who doesn't make excel spreadsheets in their spare time? This is a slightly more "Slice of Life" esque version of kosnik4's story. Hopefully lighthearted, funny, and as enjoyable to read as it is thinking of increasingly ridiculous skill progressions. Thanks to kosnik4 and Magic-Smithing for providing fertile grounds for creativity to thrive. NOTE: THIS IS A FAN FICTION, AND ALL INTELLECTUAL RIGHTS BELONG TO KOSNIK4. I'm a patron of his story, and love reading about what happens next in his story. I've tried my best to be as accurate to his canon science as possible, though it's not 100% feasible. Afterall, the story isn't even done yet! My plan for the releases is to release a single chapter a day until 3/7, and then release 4 chapters a week on M, W, F, & Sat. P.S. If anyone can figure out what the EXACT formula for Level XP is, I'd love to hear it. I'm starting to doubt my math and excel capabilities. I have an equation that is fairly accurate and stays close to his values, but not exactly the same.

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.
