Both of them reached the corridor.

Lin Nan's facial complexion immediately darkened when he saw that the door to his house was wide open.

Fang Lin could sense that something was wrong.

The corpse of an old man could be seen. It was long rotten and covered with insects.

Lin Nan walked into his house and checked all the rooms. There was no sign of Li Ran.

He had instructed her not to leave unless it was absolutely necessary and knowing her, she would have followed his order.

"It doesn't look like she left in a hurry. She seems to be prepared and must have gone out willingly," said Fang Lin. He tried to be calm.

Fang Lin did not know how he would react. After all, they had been together for so long and Lin Nan had always been loyal to her.

"I told her not to leave. Something must have happened."

Lin Nan carefully observed everything in the house. The television and couch were gone.

He dialed Li Ran's number.

No one picked up.

"Someone had broken in and it does not seem like it was a zombie."

Lin Nan rationally analyzed the current situation. He forced himself to calm down. Panicking does not help.

"Well, I don't see her corpse. There's a high chance that she's alive."

Hearing that, Fang Lin tried to ease the atmosphere. He shook Lin Nan's shoulders and jokingly said, "You can't deny it. Lin Nan, face the truth."

"Now is not the time to tease."

Lin Nan's tone was very cold.

Fang Lin nodded and stopped immediately.

Suddenly, Lin Nan's expression changed. He looked towards the direction of the door and yelled, "Who?! Show yourself!"

A woman walked out with her head lowered.

"Who are you? The one who lives here is a pregnant woman named Li Ran. She has already left. I live downstairs."

It was the woman who earlier looted Li Ran's house with her husband. She came out from her hiding spot carefully.

"Have you seen her?" Lin Nan asked.

The woman's voice was very soft.

"Do you need help? You can come with us."

The woman shook her head. After a while, she asked in a low voice, "Do you have anything to eat or drink? I have no more food."

"Fang Lin, I am going down to bring her some food."

"No. I'll go with you. There may be zombies in this building."

The woman waved her hand and said with a smile, "You're quite brave."

Fang Lin raised his eyebrows.

"There's no choice."

Lin Nan looked at the car and the both of them headed downstairs.

They then returned and gave the woman some food and water.

The woman hurriedly bowed and thanked them, then she watched them leave.

There were no signs of Li Ran as Lin Nan and Fang Lin came down.

Seeing that, Li Ran's mother was in tears.

She got up and said, "Can I go up to see her?"

While she knew that this request was very inappropriate, she could not control herself.

Fang Lin blinked and smiled bitterly. "Auntie, your daughter is fine. She was not at home. We will continue to look for her."

"Really? That's great! I told you that she would be fine. It was her who told us to stock up long before this incident happened. Otherwise, we would not have survived until now."

Li Ran's mother was relieved, but she was still a little worried since she had not been able to see her daughter.

Most of the words she had said were to convince herself so she would not overthink.
