I Can Farm Attributes From Ghosts! Chapter 10

Seeing that he had less than three months left to live and the mission deadline on the interface counted down, Brian suddenly felt a sense of urgency.
The most important thing now was to complete the mission, but how could he find the cunning water ghost?
"Hey! System! Water ghosts are different from mirror ghosts. They don't stay in one place and don't move. This ghost often moves around. How can I find him?"
"The host's system panel is the basic interface. There are more options below the basic interface. Please open it and use more system functions. There will always be a function suitable for the host."
According to the system's instructions, Brian opened the interface and finally found two functional options.
That was right, there were only two.
1. Radar scan. (Basic function: Able to check the location of demons and ghosts within a 10-kilometer radius, making it easier to find the target.)
Note: Host Brian, Class E Warlock. The highest authorization would allow you to check the location of a Class C ghost.
Each use costs 50 attribute points.
2. Left Oculus of God (Basic Function: Human and ghosts have their own path. If ghosts are unwilling to be seen by mortals, this function will allow the host to possess the Oculus of God. All ghosts will be exposed.)
Note: Host Brian, Class E Warlock. The highest authorization would allow you to see the invisibility of a Class C ghost.
…
(Detected host status, currently no authority to activate the remaining functions. Host, please work harder and activate the functions as soon as possible.)
These two functions were simply prepared for this mission. One was the locator function of a satellite and the other was the Oculus of God that allowed him to locate the invisibility any time. Brian was full of confidence in this mission.
Although he could not discover high-level demon ghosts due to the level restriction, the water ghost's level was not very high. Therefore, the functions were sufficiently good for now.

But was this really a coincidence?
He still had 100 attribute points from completing the mission last time. Using these two functions would consume 100 attribute points. This was a profound problem!
The system took the initiative to explain for the first time.
"System Friendly Response: Don't worry, the system is doing everything according to the procedure. There are no personal emotions mixed in!"
'Why should I believe you! You are an evil system!'
'No, this fella is a cloud of mist, and doesn't have feelings!'
'Emotionless unscrupulous system!'
Brian thought to himself as he smiled and said, "Oh! Honorable System, what are you thinking? I'm completely at ease with your work."
System: "According to the host's evaluation, host is being 1% insincere, 9% hiding the truth, 90% slandering the system. Activating yellow warning once!!!"
There was a thunderclap in the cloudless sky and an arm-thick bolt of lightning struck Brian.
Crackle!
Brian looked at the burnt tree and swallowed his saliva.
He quickly recited the praises in his heart and used all the praises he could think of.
…
Swoosh—
His vision blurred and for a moment Brian was back in reality.
It was still night.
The night was dark and dawn was gradually breaking. It looked like dawn was approaching.
Brian picked up a bottle of red wine from the bar and leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window to savor the wine.
After coming out of the demon space, Brian did not feel tired at all. Instead, his mind was very clear, as if he had slept for a few days.
Just then, an urgent news broadcast on the television caught Brian's attention.
"Hello, everyone! This is Gro City Radio Station, the first news channel. I'm the host, Annie."
"Latest news from this station. Recently, an unknown terrifying monster has appeared in the river that flows through Gro City. It appears from midnight to six in the morning. It likes to appear at night in white. While pretending to fall into the water in the river, it cries for help loudly, attracting kindhearted people to go into the water to save it. Without exception, all of them are dragged into the water. Currently, no one knows if they are dead or alive. The National Security Department has already stepped in to investigate…"

"So, if you meet someone drowning for help in the middle of the night, you have to be careful. It might not be a human. Don't go into the water. I repeat, don't go into the water…"
"Till 10 am today, more than 20 people have been killed. This crazy monster was named Water Ghost by scientists. As the name suggests, it is a monster in the water!"
"In order to completely eliminate the water ghost, the relevant Special Department have already launched a top level operation. They will eliminate the monsters as soon as possible and return the city to its former glory!"
"According to the relevant departments, the water ghost can't go ashore to harm people. Therefore, for everyone's safety, please reduce your night trips so as to avoid being harmed by the water ghost."
"Today's broadcast ends here. We will update the latest situation of the water ghost in real time. Please take precautions…"
Brian took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a few puffs.
"It seems like this damned water ghost has already killed many innocent people. If I delay for a few more days, more people will probably be harmed. I'll go and take him in tomorrow!"
After completing his mission, Brian felt a sense of mission.
The next night, Brian drove out of the castle early.
Without thinking, he went to the place where he met the water ghost last night.
"Huh? Why is she here?"
Brian looked at the river from last night. There were more than ten armed guards standing by the river.
The beautiful woman sitting on the car caught his attention.
Red high heels, long hair, sexy red lips, and a face like goddess Venus under the moonlight.
It was the president of the paranormal club, Celia.
"Hey! Lady in heels…"
Brian was about to say something witty when he looked at the dozen black muzzles and swallowed his words.
Although Brian had the system and could deal with ghosts, it was difficult for him to deal with firearms.
Fortunately, Celia stepped forward.
"Put down your guns! Mr. Brian is the backbone of our club and my friend. Is this how you treat my friend?"
One did not know if it was intentional or not, but when Celia spoke, she emphasized the word "friend" as if she was implying something!
As soon as Celia finished, Brian felt the threat of being pointed at disappear.
The guards saluted and turned around in unison. Their actions were done in one go. It was obvious that they were experts who had undergone special training!
It was only then that Brian remembered the news on television that the country would send Special Department to deal with the water ghost.
Could these people be from the Special Department?
Looking at their clear division of labor and tight defense of the river, Brian was surprised!
Especially when he saw the assault rifles and cannons on the opposite side of the road, his expression became even stranger.
Why? Were these people planning to use firearms to fight demons?
It might not be useful, but if the water ghost was unwilling to show itself, they would not be able to see it with their naked eyes.

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend

He puts his box down before walking over to one of the grey bins. I nosily watch as he pulls out a big grey sweatshirt, "Here." He holds it out for me to take and I stare at him with wide eyes, "F-For me?" I hesitantly grab the soft fabric as he chuckles, "Nah for ya mom." I puff my cheeks a little and give him a small glare, "Hush." He leans back against the wall and shakes his head, "It's cold out.
