I Reincarnated As A Shinai Chapter 294

Diether pulled out his black sword.
This sword is a modified version of the Sun Fire Knight's Solar Sword. Of course, this one is made by Rufus who seemed so unsatisfied about the current Solar Sword that the Knights Order has been using for several decades.
As soon as he gets into his stance, or the Jodan no Kamae, his bracelet lit up for a moment as he was covered by a fiery aura…
Since they are fighting against a wave of beasts, his normal combat style wouldn't work well. He needs to use a skill that could effectively affect a whole area…
Nevertheless, he was used to getting into his stance during a fight, he would always be in his Jodan no Kamae before casting his sword skills.
He thought that it is actually a good thing since he could also be prepared in case a beast managed to get closer to him faster than he expected.
"Flaming Sword Dragon…"
Diether muttered as he activated his Arcane Magic. This is the ability of his sword that allows him to create a Sword Dragon made of his Spiritual Energy to attack his targets…
However, with his Arcana, he managed to modify his Magic Weapon's Arcane Magic into a Flaming version!
His skill created a huge commotion as the beasts tried to avoid the sentient fire… It doesn't just hurt their eyes but they know that something is wrong with the rampaging fire ahead of them!
It was too powerful and couldn't be put off so easily!
With such an attack, the morale of the soldiers increased as they continued fighting against the beasts. Only about ten of them were capable of releasing a wide-range Arcane Magic and all the others only have abilities meant for a single target.
This is why such ability is so valuable in this kind of battle…

It wasn't that surprising since most of the soldiers here only have lower-class Magic Weapons. As for those who have an Arcana, there's not a lot of them and even if they have, they are only at the Common or Rare Rank with abilities not suitable for mass battle…
"Captain Diether… Please continue dealing with those bears. I'll handle the Phantom Wolves!"
Kazim said as he dashed at the group of Phantom Wolves. He was followed by the other members of their unit since they didn't want to let the others take all the glory.
Their Solar Sword is truly effective against Evil Beasts. Perhaps, a single member of Sun Fire Knight can be equal to five members of Chaos Knights when it comes to a battle against Evil Beasts…
Diether smiled after seeing the enthusiastic Knights. It is not easy to be able to join in this kind of battle so he was quite thankful to General Julian for letting them join the defense of the Fortress.
This gives them a lot of experience and hones their skills…
He then glanced at the other Northern Army Soldiers and the members of the Chaos Knights on the battlefield.
They are doing really well and they have great coordination, unlike his small team who are used to fighting alone.
'Hmm?'
As Diether was about to attack again, he felt a powerful Spiritual Energy on top of the wall, it seems that someone is about to use a powerful Arcane Magic…
"Ice Storm…"
Soon, cold energy started spreading throughout the battlefield weakening the Sun Fire Knight's Fiery Aura… and at this rate, they might even have trouble using the Hazy Flash Steps…
Diether looked on top of the wall and noticed a hooded figure carrying a beautiful shield. He was the one who activated the Arcane Magic but what he was surprised about is the person behind him who is carrying a very familiar sword…

'Isn't that similar to the Sacred Sword?!'
Diether couldn't mistake himself since he tried pulling that sword out of the stone… He can't be mistaken!
He then noticed that Rufus was also looking at him with an incredulous look. It seems that he had also recognized the sword that the other hooded guy is carrying…
"Those cloaks… they must be members of the Night Brigade. I thought they all went ahead and dealt with the stronger beasts."
"Hey, Diether… That sword that the guy is holding, isn't that---"
"Yes, I noticed too… But let's not think about that. They must've tried pulling out the sword after we left the city."
Diether replied. Though he felt that it was a shame that they didn't get the sword, he wasn't too inclined on taking it for himself since he felt that he would have to shoulder some kind of responsibility if he truly managed to pull it out.
Boom! Boom!
"AAaargh!"
"Help! My arm!"
"Retreat! Take those who are injured!"
"The Dark Elves! They're here!"
"They're hiding behind the group of Armored Apes!"
The two suddenly heard the cries of the soldiers in front as they were hit by the Dark Elves' mysterious Arcane Magic.
Those who were caught by the spell had their bodies started rotting! They would be unable to quickly move as the Armored Apes would deal the finishing blow!
"I knew it! This beast wave wasn't natural… There are Dark Elves behind this!"
Diether heard one of the soldiers in front. It seems that they already have some intuition but it wasn't mentioned to their group!
'Dark Elves… This will be difficult. However, we still have an hour before the night approaches. We have to quickly gather and weaken their forces now.' The young man thought as he glanced in the direction where the Dark Elves should be located.
He then saw several figures wearing beast hides as their cloak. They are moving at the same pace as the Armored Apes and it seems that they are planning to use them as their shield.
"Ugh… Dark Elves, huh… I'd rather fight with the Orcs. These guys are scheming evil creatures." Rufus muttered after seeing the black figures.
At the very least, the Night Brigade acted as they promised. They quickly jump off the wall to fight the strongest enemies in this beast wave, the Dark Elves.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
