Global Online Survival Chapter 13

A large piece of mangled wood tumbled at the bottom of the sea, stirring up a large area of mud and water.
The light of the pearl revealed the wreckage of an ancient ship in front of Ye Jun.
There was no telling how many years the ship had been submerged at the bottom of the sea; the hull had all but rotted away, leaving only a crumbling, empty hull with algae and shells all over.
Its color almost matched the dirt on the seabed; it would have been hard to spot the wreckage with the naked eye if he hadn't stumbled upon a piece of it.
Ye Jun became excited.
An ancient shipwreck, huh? There must be a lot of treasure inside.
It remains to be seen whether it's a merchant ship or a warship.
Ye Jun felt his way along the hull and soon found an entrance.
The deck was in complete decay. Ye Jun kicked it and a hole was made.
He carefully felt his way in.
The pearl's illumination allowed him to see there were a large number of wooden boxes and sacks inside the ship.
However, those wooden boxes and sacks had long since been damaged after an unknown number of years passed.
Who knew what was once contained inside the sacks since it was long gone, leaving only some shredded linen behind.
Ye Jun opened a box that was in a relatively better condition.
Surprisingly, there was a box of fine porcelain inside.
Perhaps the wooden box was well protected; the porcelain had not been corroded by the sea. A small part of the porcelain set was broken, while the rest were surprisingly shiny and as clean as new.
Plates, dishes, bowls, large bowls, teapots, flowerpots, and all kinds of dishes.
Ye Jun took a glance at the drops; they were surprisingly from eight hundred years before.
It's a pity we're not in the modern times, or else a box of ancient porcelain would probably fetch hundreds of millions.
Ye Jun opened the other boxes, which were mostly porcelain as well.
It was an ancient merchant ship carrying porcelain, silk and such to sell overseas, but it sank by accident.

The merchant ship didn't have much in terms of gold or silver treasures either because it had lost its cargo during the wreck, or the things of value had been taken away before it sank.
It wasn't until he checked the last box that he found a few copper pots inside, as well as copper basins and a few pieces of silver fragments and gold leaves.
"Found 20 taels of ancient silver ingots, convertible to 200 silver coins."
That was the most valuable item in the whole ship.
Ye Jun had barely raised five silver coins, even after hunting a level 5 boss. He didn't expect to pick up so many silver coins there.
He changed all the silver ingots for silver coins; then he picked out some useful porcelain pieces before floating back to the surface.
Ye Jun was mentally exhausted after such a busy day, soon falling asleep after returning to the raft.
Ye Jun woke up early the next morning and checked in for the new day.
The first thing he currently did every day when he woke up was to check-in.
"Checked in successfully. Received a small sea ship drawing!"
The next moment, a scroll appeared in his hand.
Ye Jun's spirits were immediately lifted.
Ye Jun had managed to survive while drifting in the sea on a small raft, only able to follow the waves, completely at the mercy of the elements.
However, that drawing represented the chance to build a ship later on.
Even the smallest merchant ships were able to withstand the wind and waves, and would have a place to settle down properly.
Ye Jun couldn't wait to open the scroll.
Small merchant ship: 120 feet long hull; 30 feet wide and 30 feet high. Materials required: wood (1000 cubic meters of fine ship wood) hemp rope (200 meters) tung oil (20 barrels), sailcloth (30 meters).
It was a typical, ancient-style wooden ship, without a single nail required as part of the raw materials.
However, the difficulty of acquiring the other raw materials also made Ye Jun frown.
A thousand cubic meters of wood was fine, as there were plenty of people willing to cut down trees for food. Sailcloth would of course be used for the sails, and it didn't matter if he didn't have any for a while.

But hemp rope and tung oil wasn't something ordinary people knew how to make.
Ye Jun could only pin his hopes on other players. After all, there were lots of strange people and things in that world; there might be players who could make hemp rope and tung oil.
The game sent out a world announcement at that moment.
"Dear players! The three-day newbie protection period for wilderness survival has expired; wild animals within a certain range will actively attack players, so please be prepared and try to stay alive. Meanwhile, the in-game store has officially opened, and players can buy supplies to improve their survival abilities.
Wild animals actively attacking players?
Ye Jun's face changed slightly; he hurriedly opened the world channel.
The whole world was currently in an uproar.
They had thought that such a survival game was just a matter of finding food, building shelters, and surviving in adverse places.
But they found out that the game had officially started right then!
When comparing the first three days—when they had to starve, but at least they had bread and water—the hell they complained about before was heaven compared to the new conditions.
Most people had not only run out of food and water at the moment, but also had to face the possibility of encountering wild animals that could attack them at any moment.
A lot of people were on the verge of a breakdown and started raging madly on the channel.
"This shi*ty game is purely about getting people killed!"
"I have no food now, I'm cold and hungry… Not only do I not know where to find food, but I may soon be attacked by wild animals. Is there anyone who can help me and give me something to eat? I don't want to go out!"
"There's a pack of wolves outside my shelter, what should I do, please tell me. Waiting online for a response, it's really quite urgent…"
"I think I understand. This game is not trying to let players survive, forcing players to fight monsters to level up! The game is about hunting and killing monsters to get experience, money, and then buy supplies using the in-game store to improve strength, and then continue to hunt and kill monsters some more. We're working for the game at this point!"
"Laborers! Take heart! I thought the world had changed so I didn't have to work like a slave! I didn't think it was impossible not to work…"
The change in the game had been the cause of many people's frustration.
However, many more began to think seriously about how to survive.
There were no safe places anywhere when wild monsters actively attacked players; trying to muddle through was impossible!
In reality, Ye Jun had a hunch about that long before.
It was a survival game; the introduction of which was to improve the ability of human beings to survive in various environments found in the universe.
It had merely been a simple wilderness survival for the moment, but in the future… it might be updated to the end of the world or an interplanetary survival…
But, regardless of the mode, he could face anything if he was strong enough.
Ye Jun prepared a trading post.
"Bulk acquisition of lumber, 1 cubic meter of lumber for a catty of fish, 1 cubic meter of high-quality ship wood for two catties of fish. Also buying large amounts of hemp rope, tung oil and other supplies. Price can be discussed!"
Ye Jun then closed the world channel filled with complaining comments and turned to open the in-game store.
He wanted to see what goodies would be inside the in-game store!
Maybe he could find the materials for shipbuilding.
Since the wild monsters would actively attack players, it was highly likely that wild monsters in the sea would actively attack the small raft; Ye Jun had to find a way to create a merchant ship as soon as possible.

A World With or Without Aliens
Nothing matters. It's not my opinion, it's a scientific fact. This is neither good nor bad, it just... is. I watched my entire country burn, fried on a patriotic pan after some jerk fired a bunch of nukes at the docile fleet of alien ships hovering over us. Who gave this moron such power? I don't know. Everyone involved is most likely dead by now. As for me, I can't die. I feel pain like a normal person would (I think), but no matter how terrible the conditions, I will never die or pass out. Fortunately, a lot of alien technology survived its crash to Earth, so I get to spend some time playing with it until Mr. Author gets bored and decides to screw up my life. Beware, this has a "harem" tag. If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm the main character and am therefore subject to this novel's timeline. While this bars me from the sweet ignorance of Chapter 1's me, it does have other perks... for example, I can tell you that heroine number one is personally responsible for kil-!? H-hey, back off! I'm your character, so if you didn't want me to be like this, then you should've written me differently! Randomguy here! In all seriousness, this novel is meant to explore the concept of nihilism as a post-apocalyptic/supernatural-scifi/satire told from a nihilistic introvert's first-person perspective. As you heard from my unsettled main character, each heroine is going to be a different type of horrifying socio/psychopath with dark motives and dangerous abilities (most of which are psychological). Why would I do something like this? Because I am, in reality, a nihilist who is often frustrated by weird things, like unrealistically dramatic stories, the industrialization of art (specifically music), and people who think swimming in brown creekwater for five hours is a "fun" activity. Don't get me wrong, neither me nor my character are depressed, we're just malcontents who make a lot of nerd references. I feel like the true essence of an "everything is worthless" perspective is lost on most pop-culture figures. The closest character I can think of at the moment is Rick from Rick and Morty, who is a drunk, angry nihilist that experienced tremendous loss. I, personally, find this belligerent state of mind to be very relatable, and have incorperated it into every chapter's introduction. Here, the main character talks directly to the reader (and me), shamelessly complaining about some semi-relevant facet of society, which probably doesn't make much sense... it's not really supposed to, though. These "angry nihilist" moments are just a peak into the main character's everyday existence, and also act as miniature rage-journals for me. It will sometimes take a subjectively 'positive' turn, but not very often. This is because reality isn't good or bad, "it just... is". I will eventually bring it full-circle to optimistic nihilism, since that seems to be a more practical way to live (and by "practical", I mean "doesn't create mental health issues"). It is, of course, a satire. I did this because most unnecessarily emotional moments or people usually make me feel kind of awkward, so I decided to mock them. That is, I plan to mock the characteristics about them I don't like in characters based solely off said characteristics. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my story!
