Chapter 88: The Last Request
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
After arranging the things to be done, Evan cautiously ushered the crowd into the hall. Now, he was really afraid…
In the process of waiting, Evan was always careful for fear of offending Gerian, the pestilence. The old fellow was determined to kill someone to establish his power today. Evan was constantly reminding himself, Never give him an excuse, never give him an excuse ; under this pressure, even talking became a kind of torture. Before Evan spoke, he had to think it over and over again for fear that if he made a mistake, he’d become the object of Gerian’s bullying.
But luckily, the duration of torture wasn’t too long.
Ten minutes later, there were sounds of footsteps in the secret passageway leading to the living hall.
A gaunt middle-aged man struggled to walk into the living hall with the support of two mages. His clothes were brand-new; it looked like he had just changed them. The wounds on his face had been treated; although clear whip marks could still be seen, at least crimson blood wasn’t oozing out from the wounds anymore.
At the moment when the middle-aged man walked into the living hall, Evan’s heart fell. He knew better than anyone what kind of place the Merlin Family dungeon was. Out of every ten living people who went in, nine would come out dead, and the only one who was alive would mostly be badly mutilated.
Even Evan felt the various kinds of torture in the dungeon were a little perverted.
Looking at Gerian’s fat face, Evan could not imagine what kind of rage would erupt from Gerian if this adventurer had died.
But luckily, he was still alive…
Evan’s hanging heart finally descended into its place. All is well, all is well…

“Mr McGrenn.” As soon as the middle-aged adventurer entered the hall, Lin Li rushed over to hold him. His movements were light and careful as he was afraid of tearing the wounds on his body.
Lin Li always had an indescribable gratitude towards McGrenn for bringing him out of the Sunset Mountains. He was such a person. Once he had received the favor of others, whether intentionally or unintentionally, he would always remember it in his heart; just like in the case of Gerian and the Guild of Magic—the kindness Gerian had shown him and the respect that he had received from everyone in the Guild of Magic were things Lin Li had seen with his eyes and remembered in his heart. He did things for the Guild of Magic in the open and in secret without decline.
In Lin Li’s heart, McGrenn was his friend and his benefactor.
Whether it was his friend or benefactor, Lin Li would not allow anyone to hurt him.
If he was hurt, then someone had to pay the price.
“Mr McGrenn, how do you feel?” Lin Li looked at the bruises on his face. There were streaks and streaks of them—which showed that he should have been whipped.
“It’s… It’s you… Mage Felic… How did you come?” Every word McGrenn uttered seemed to come with extreme difficulty. Every wound on his body was painful, like the bites of a venomous snake.
“I heard you’ve been captured by the Merlin Family…” Lin Li whispered and suddenly remembered Cromwell’s words. His heart tightened as he cried out involuntarily, “Oh right, Mr McGrenn, where is Ina?”
“Ina escaped…” There was finally a smile on McGrenn’s face, which was full of whiplashes and bruises. “I’ve helped her escape…”
“Oh, then that’s good.” Lin Li nodded, his heart finally at ease.

“Mage… Mage Felic…” McGrenn struggled again and called Lin Li’s name with much difficulty.
“You’re badly hurt. Don’t talk for the time being, I’ll get someone to treat you.” Lin Li patted McGrenn on the back of his hand and coaxed him in a soothing tone.
But the voice of the middle-aged adventurer sounded exceptionally resolute. “No, I can’t rest… Mage Felic, I have a request.”
“I will agree to it as long as I can do it. Just tell me. But before that, you need to rest, Mr McGrenn. Your injury is really serious…”
“No need.” McGrenn shook his head with a bitter look, but his spirits seemed to improve, and his face brightened a little. He pushed away the two mages holding him. “Mage Felic, no need to persuade me any longer. I can’t live much longer.”
“What!?” Lin Li was startled.
“In order to let Ina escape, I’ve used my family’s secret method to break through to level-ten. Now my time is almost up…”
“I can cure you. Let me think, I will come up with something…” For a moment, Lin Li had completely lost his bearings. He desperately tried to recall the formulas for different potions, trying to find one that could cure McGrenn. But McGrenn was already cut off from life and could no longer be treated with potions. No matter how hard Lin Li tried to recall, he could not think of a possible formula.
“Mage Felic, I don’t have much time left… Can you promise me to find Ina?”
McGrenn’s spirit was getting better, and his face was getting rosier. Lin Li knew that this was the momentary recovery just before death. “I promise you.”
“Thank you.” McGrenn reached into his coat and trembled as he took out half of an arrow. “If you find Ina, hand her this half of an arrow. Tell her to bring it to the Eternal Shrine to look… to look for her mother…”
The voice of the middle-aged adventurer sank lower and lower, and the flush brought on by the momentary recovery faded. As he uttered his last word, his life also came to an end. His once strong body fell softly and the arrow in his hand dropped onto the thick carpet, rolling lightly as it touched the ground…
Lin Li quietly picked up the half an arrow from the ground and held it tightly in his hand. As he looked at the tightly shut eyes of the middle-aged adventurer, his face displayed an unprecedented seriousness. “Rest assured, I will hand this half an arrow to Ina… As for those who had hurt you, I will not let any of them off!”
After a long while, Lin Li turned around and looked at Evan coldly. “Where’s another one?”
“There’s another one?” Not to mention Evan, even Gerian was bewildered by the question. Didn’t McGrenn just say that he had helped his daughter escape? When was there another one?
“She’s called Ina.”
Evan panicked. “But… But she has escaped…”
“I don’t care. I only know that it was the Merlin Family that had captured her, and now I’ll only look for the Merlin Family for the person.”
Gerian suddenly realized that this gentle kid was even more aggressive than he was. He had more or less found an excuse for himself, but this kid didn’t even try to look for an excuse; he had just made up a reason and planted it on them first.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.

Penance's Pursuit
This future sci-fi fantasy follows the progression of a few main characters as they navigate their unique spheres of life in the year 2242. The story focuses heavily on themes of guilt, personal failing, and penance. The conflict revolves around two main concepts: Man vs. Himself (Internal conflict) and Man vs Man (External conflict). The internal conflicts focus on many of the characters' inner demons and how each of them deal with the scars of the past. The external conflict centers around a mysterious criminal organization called Nexus that conducts human trafficking. There are three groups of main characters. The first group belong to a vigilante mercenary organization called Ab Aeterno. Titus, Venna, and Benjamin are Achilles team. This team is a part of Ab Aeterno's special forces branch which is designated Demon Stalkers. Their goal and mission is to perform assassinations, abductions, and destabilization operations on criminal organizations throughout the solar system. Their current mission places them directly in the path of Nexus. Titus interacted with them in his past and they seem to have unlimited reach, resources, and power. As the team faces this threat, old wounds will surface and dangerous connections to the past will emerge. The second group of characters are on the Mars colony. Randal Page is an analyst for a talent scout company on Mars. He is faced with the reality that the company he thought he was working for is in fact Nexus. His story centers around his coming to realize the duplicity of the company he works for and then his response to the startling realization of his own ignorant involvement. Also on Mars is a woman named FaRarra Njokko. She is a Nexus sex slave in a brothel on Mars and is known by the stage name of Stardust. She is striving to escape when her path crosses with Randal. The final main character is Preston Coretel. He is a monk with a mysterious and shady past. He is on the run from Nexus in more ways than one. He is seeking sanctuary on an abandoned monastery space station in order to avoid agents of Nexus and to atone for his previous involvement with Nexus.
