The Last Embrace Chapter 457

Three hours later.
Jessy was awakened to the sound of her alarm.
It's already midnight, time to leave and go back to the countryside where the murder took place.
She put her mask on her face and tied her hair in a ponytail. She donned her black hoodie sweatshirt, picked up her sling bag, and transformed herself into her invisible form. She initiated the teleportation process and was gone from the room in seconds.
She's back in the countryside.
She hovered above the two houses on the east side.
She went inside the first house and moved upstairs, and inspected the rooms. In the first room, she saw the woman sleeping with her two daughters in the bed.
She immediately freezes them and started the mind-reading process on the sleeping woman. After scanning the woman's memories, she can't find anything relating to the massacre of their neighbor. She unfreezes them.
She left the room and entered the next room. The father was sleeping in the bed with his son. She freezes them, then went to the guy's side and read his mind. A few minutes later, the result is the same with his wife, she can't find anything suspicious about the husband's memory or any indication that he knows something about the massacre.
Sighing, Jessy unfreezes the guy and his son.
She exited the house and hovered above. She zoomed towards the next house where he saw a guy living alone.
She entered the house that was submerged in darkness and went upstairs. She saw two bedrooms upstairs. Each of the bedrooms was empty, no one is sleeping in the rooms. Where is that guy? Maybe he was out of the house at this time?
But there was light on his veranda. He could be somewhere not far...
She exited the house and hovered above it.

She looked far and wide thinking where could he be at this hour when everybody was already sleeping?
She saw the guy's vehicle parked outside. Which means he could be somewhere near the vicinity of the house.
Hmm...
Where could he be?
She looked at nearby places, she can't see anyone.
She was debating to leave the place and just come back later. She will be wasting her time if she will wait for him since she has no idea when he will come back.
She turned to the west side and zoomed to the two houses there more or less fifty meters distance from each other.
She hovered above the single-story house where the elderly couple was residing. She entered the two rooms on the ground floor. The first room was vacant.
She went to the second room and found the elderly couple sleeping on the bed, hugging each other. 'Aww sweet,' Jessy said to herself.
She freezes the couple and began the process of reading grandpa's mind first, she can't find anything related to the massacre in his mind.
Done with grandpa, she switched to granny, and proceed reading her mind. Jessy sighed, still no information or clue whatsoever from granny's mind.
Jessy unfreezes the couple and left the house.
One more house left to go!
She zoomed towards the next house and entered it passing through the closed door. She came into the living room and hovered on the stairs towards the second floor.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms.
She checked the first room and found it empty.
She proceeds to the next room. There, she saw the couple naked in the bed, they probably had just finished having sex.
'I'm sorry to barge in,' Jessy murmured in her breath. She freezes the couple and went to their side.

She read the woman's mind first, several minutes later, she saw nothing in the woman's mind that can help her gather clue and hint about the massacre.
Frustrated, she turned to the husband.
A few minutes of reading the husband's mind, it produced the same result with her wife. Nothing!
Sighing, Jessy unfreezes the couple and departed from the house.
She hovered in the air unsure where to proceed next with her investigation.
She looked at the east side and zoomed back to the housed of that guy. She will wait a few minutes for his return and if he still won't come back to his house within thirty minutes then she will come back tomorrow night.
She entered the pitch-black living room, went upstairs to check the rooms and found them empty still, she went back downstairs and sat on the comfy sofa to pass time.
A moment later, she heard the sound of a door opening somewhere in the house...
Where is it?
Did he already come back?
She went to the kitchen and saw a black figure emerging from the door on the wall. The figure was holding a flashlight in his right hand.
Huh?
So... the guy had been inside the house the whole time?
Dang!
What was behind that door?
The guy proceeds to climb the stairs and entered one of the bedrooms upstairs.
Jessy followed the guy upstairs and freeze him after she found him lying on the bed preparing to sleep.
She went back to the ground floor and sauntered towards the closed door near the kitchen. She passed through the door and landed on the stairs going down...oh...so the house has a hidden basement?
She was heading down to inspect the area...her feet landed on the cemented floor...the light was on. She saw a room with a closed door.
Jessy passed through the closed door.
There was light inside the room.
She was unprepared for what she saw inside...
Her eyes widened in shock!
There was a young emaciated pregnant woman, lying on the bed, both her hands and feet were tied by a chain. Her hair was sticking on her head, unwashed. Her overall appearance was dirty as if she hadn't taken a bath for a long time. She had burns on her skin from her neck down to her feet.
'What that guy did to Adelyn!?' Jessy asked herself, horrified.
There was trash everywhere.
The room smells awful.
The kind of smell that will make you want to vomit.
She can smell a mixture of mold, unwashed body, urine, and human waste, and many unpleasant horrible scents circulating in the air.
The girl's eyes were vacant and lifeless staring at the ceiling.
Jessy made herself visible and the girl stared at her in shock.
"W-who are you?" she asked.
"I'm your angel, what is your name?" Jessy asked softly.
"A-are you the angel of death? Are you going to take me away from this hell?" she asked and sobbed pitifully. Her frail body was shaking every time she wept.
Jessy's heart was breaking inside her ribcage.
"I want to die...please take me away from here!" the girl demanded in desperation.
"What is your name?" Jessy asked again for confirmation although she already had an indication who she is, Adelyn's previous photo, and the girl she saw today they looked so vastly different from each other.

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
