The Last Embrace Chapter 455

One hour later, Jessy and Oliver were now traveling on the open highway, enjoying and appreciating the beauty of the countryside.

As they went farther away from the city the houses were getting few in between and acres of land unfolds before their very eyes.

Thirty minutes later.

They arrived in an abandoned house that was famously called a haunted house by others.

Oliver parked his car under the shade of the White Oaktree.

Jessy rolled down the window and inspected the deserted house. It was a two-story brick house surrounded by a vast area of land were plants and wild bushes were growing abundantly behind the house.

The house stood in the middle of the land that used to be the residence of a happy family. Until one night, they were all slaughtered mercilessly by the unknown killer and that killer was still at large until now.

Oliver exited the car and Jessy followed.

They remained watching the house a few meters away under the shade of the tree.

"It looks like the relatives never attempted to stay in the house, it looks desolate and abandoned," Oliver commented.

"No one's going to live in a house that has got many people killed at the same time. They're afraid of the ghost, maybe?" Jessy responded with a gloomy sigh.

After a few minutes of inactivity, Jessy got restless. "Shall we go in?"

Oliver brows furrowed. "Huh? You mean you want to go inside?"

"Yeah, I wanted to. Why? What's wrong?" she asked after seeing the horrified expression on his face.

"I mean...we don't have the key...we can go to jail for trespassing," Oliver grinned.

"We're here for investigation purposes and help solved the massacre case of the entire family," Jessy reminded him. She went inside the car. "I will go inside the house in my invisible form, you wait here and don't go far away until I emerged from the house," she instructed him. "One more thing, what is the name of the missing girl again?" she asked.

"Her name is Adelyn," he answered.

"Okay, I will go inside the house now. Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" she inquired.

"Nah. I will just stay here outside and do some inspection of my own, maybe I will discover something in the vicinity of this house. Enjoy touring inside, partner," Oliver joked and sat on the trunk of the tree. He roamed his eyes everywhere and looked back at his car.

Jessy was no longer inside the car.

She was now hovering in the air in her invincible form, she went to the back of the house, there is nothing in there worth investigating.

She passed through the wall of the house and entered the kitchen area. Cobwebs were hanging in the ceiling adorning the tables and the chairs, she went to the living room and it has the same condition as the kitchen, cobwebs, and dust were taking over the house. But she can't see broken furniture of any kind inside the house.

She saw stairs and hovered above it going up to the second floor of the house.

Upstairs, there were four bedrooms.

She went inside the first bedroom and saw the room in disarray, garments where being strewn everywhere. Then there was a dry bloodstain on the bed and the floor as well.

She exited the room and went to the next bedroom. Like in the first bedroom, she also spotted dry bloodstain on the bed, and on the floor, it was messy inside the room, there was clutter everywhere. There is nothing in there to offer her any clue of what could happen on that tragic night.

She exited the room.

Next, she entered the third room. It was surprisingly neat and everything was in order, except for the blanket and pillow haphazardly placed in the bed. There was no dry bloodstain on the bed. This must be the missing seventeen years old girl's bedroom. And that first room is where the grandparents where sleeping and the second room was where the girl's parents and the young boy was sleeping.

Jessy exited the room.

She went inside the fourth room, there was no bed in there except a cabinet and assorted of furniture discarded in there, there were bundles of garments as well, it must be the room where they stored their unused things.

Thirty minutes later.

Jessy exited the house after discovering that nothing in the house could help her find out where is the missing girl.

She sighed.

Where are you Adelyn?

She hovered above the house and looked everywhere around her.

There was a vast area of uncultivated land around her, then on the west side, she saw two houses a few miles from where she was floating. Then on the east side, she saw two more houses, they're too far away to hear any scream and shouts from where the massacre was being perpetrated on that night. There were a total of four houses that were closest to the house.

Jessy looked at the south.

The sunset is about to broke in the horizon slowly turning the sky into a stunning display of colors such as vibrant orange, pale yellows, and pink.

The night is fast approaching.

She returned inside the car and transformed herself into her visible form. She notices that Oliver was looking at the grassy lawns in front of the house. "Oliver, I'm back!" she shouted at him.

Oliver left his spot and trudged back to the car and slid in the driver's seat. "Are we leaving now?" he asked.

"Yeah. You have to go back to the city and I have to remain here for a while to continue my investigation," she answered.

"Huh? How can you make an investigation in the middle of the might and there is no electricity around here, no lights? How about if we just return tomorrow and continue our investigation during broad daylight..." Oliver suggested.

Jessy shook her head. "Nah, I need to find that missing girl ASAP!" she told him.

"Okay, as you say so. Did you find any clue inside the house?" he asked.

Jessy shook her head sadly. "No. The house doesn't show anything worth investigating. There is nothing inside that can point to me who is the killer and where is the missing girl. The house becomes an empty shell of its former self, sadly it died along with its occupants one year ago," she said.

Oliver took a deep breath. "Do you think, Adelyn is still alive until now?"

Jessy shrugged. "I have two theories running in my head right now..."

"What are they?" Oliver inquired.

"Maybe Adelyn was abducted by the killer who massacres her entire family and was brought in a faraway place and was kept against her will. Or...she was already murdered by the killer and her body was thrown or buried somewhere," she suggested.

"And what if Adelyn was the one who killed her entire family because she was possessed by the devil? You know things like that already happened before," Oliver voiced his theory.

Jessy breathed deeply. "Could be... but I hope not," she said. "You may go now and drive straight to your apartment and if you see some stranger asking for a ride on the highway, don't stop! He can be the killer," she warned him.

"Alright, don't scare me!" Oliver said and started the engine of his car.

Jessy disappeared from his sight.

Oliver drove away from the house at a faster speed.

While Jessy was hovering above the house watching Oliver's car speeding into the deserted highway in the distance.
