The Last Embrace Chapter 223

Jessy made it back to the cave. When she got there the rest of the dead bodies were already burning in the pit. She decided to go alone to the clearing in the forest where the wooden hut was located.
She wants to rescue the people there without bringing the white-cloaked vampires with her so as not to cause panic to the mortals. When she arrived in the clearing, there's no light in the wooden hut, they're probably sleeping already because it's past midnight and it's usually the sleeping time for the majority of human beings on earth.
She began growing huge orbs in her palm and placed them strategically near the wooden hut creating an abundance of light against the pitch-darkness surrounding the dense forest.
She walked towards the door and knocked three times since it's the proper thing to do. She just can't barge inside without getting invited first.
No one bothered to open the door...either she knocked too softly and they were not able to hear her knocking or they are already awake yet too frightened to open the door to see a stranger in the middle of the night.
She knocked again. "Hello, anybody there? Can I come in, please?" she said in a loud voice trying to sound friendly.
Still, no response but she heard faint movements inside the house.
...
Inside the wooden hut.
The people there were peering at the holes in the wall, they were surprised to see lights outside the hut and heard a woman's voice and knocking on the door.
They were used to their captors bringing torches and entering the hut without permission, so they no longer bother to lock the door every time those savage vampires visit them.
But what they see now is a woman visitor wearing black clothing, she looks like one of the vampires, they were used to vampire males coming and leaving the area, why would their captors send one woman alone to pick up their prey?

This is the first time it happened.
Strange, indeed!
No one wants to open the door, they just want to wait what the woman will do next. Since they noticed that she was alone, they bravely locked the door from the inside. They huddled in the corner waiting for something to happen next.
Outside.
Jessy shifted on her feet. Looks like they won't open the door, she tried pushing the door it didn't budge.
She released a deep sigh, she doesn't have the luxury of time to wait for them to open the door.
Time for Plan B!
She grows orbs in both palms to use as light when she enters the hut.
Then she went inside passing through the closed door.
The peoples' eyes widened upon seeing the woman appeared inside the hut without going through the door. She also has fire in her hands, the inside of the hut suddenly lighted up illuminating everyone's frightful faces.
"W-who are you? Are you gonna take more prisoners this time and bring them to the cave?" asked one of the women with a terrified expression on her face.
Jessy shook her head. "No. I'm here to rescue everyone, come on follow me outside, bring the babies with you! Hurry up!" she said in urgency, fearing that the leader would appear all of a sudden and hamper her rescue operation. If she's the only one, she will be able to face the leader bravely but there are mortals with her, they might get hurt in the process if she and the leader will start fighting each other.
"W-where are you taking us?" one of the men asked apprehensively.
"To a much safer place, I already rescued the people living in the cages, now it's your turn! Trust me, you will see them soon!" she said.
Upon hearing the stranger mentioning about rescuing the caged people they start trusting the woman.
Two of the women grabbed the sleeping babies and carry them in their arms, they began walking out of the wooden hut in a hurry.

All of them were already outside the house and huddled together, Jessy waved her hands and freeze them. Once again the darkness covered the entire area after she put out the fire, she wastes no time and teleported them into the function hall of the Facility.
When they landed in the function hall, the queen and her daughter were no longer there to greet the new arrivals.
Jessy unfreezes the people.
They gasp in shock to see their new surroundings! A total contrast to the forest they inhabited for many years, they're back in the civilization!
B-but where are they?
What place is this?
Lot's of questions are flashing on their eyes.
Jessy was observing them silently, she began speaking to them in a cheerful voice. "Welcome back, everyone! You are now free from the savages! Starting today you are safe and you are in good hands. I am in charge of you all, so please follow everything I tell you, you will see your relatives soon, just behave and follow my command from now on. I'm now going to take you to your living quarters. Inside the room, you will be able to sleep in clean beds, wear clean clothing, eat proper foods and you will also able to enjoy bathing in a bathroom with water and soup. How about that—guys?"
The people's faces were suddenly radiating with excitement, just the thoughts of sleeping in a clean bed and able to have a proper bath is pure heaven to them. They can no longer contain their happiness, those simple luxury that they used to ignore before their abduction suddenly become a big thing to them. Sleeping in a clean room, refreshing baths with clean water and eating proper foods are so basic needs for humans yet it's something they were not able to enjoy for a long time, and they were looking forward to experiencing those basic but very important activities again.
"Guys, let's go to your rooms now! Follow me!" Jessy sauntered towards the door, the people were eagerly following her lead.
When they were already in the living quarters, Jessy was about to put four men in one room but the two men went to the women's sides that were holding a baby in their arms.
"We're a couple," they announced proudly.
Jessy smiled. "Ah, okay," she murmured. She put the couples in separate rooms so that they can have privacy.
Then she settled the others into the vacant room.
"I'm locking the doors guys to keep you safe. In the coming days, I will explain why. I will answer all your questions tomorrow, so please bear with the locked door for the meantime, its purpose is to keep you safe, do you understand me guys—?" she explained.
They nodded their head fully trusting her words this time.
Once everybody was already acquainting themselves into their new living quarters, Jessy locked the doors.
Whew! Thank goodness!
Huge relief washed over her face. Finally, she was successful in rescuing the caged people with the help of the king and his warriors, she truly feels good inside.
Now it's about time to go back to the cave and decide on the fate of the remaining savage captives. She was entertaining the idea of saving them but she need to see them first and talk to them in a very serious manner. Giving them asylum in the Facility is a big gamble, the risk is very high! If they will start an act of revenge and create chaos in the Facility she only has herself to blame for being too kind and considerate. First, she needs to find out if they are worth saving.
She teleported back into the cave.

Tales from the Triverse
Tales from the Triverse is part detective drama, part fantasy adventure and part space opera. I’m influenced by the likes of Iain M Banks, Isaac Asimov and ND Stevenson and work including The Wire and Gotham Central. It begins with an incident two hundred years ago which crashed three parallel universes together. Portals open up in 18th century London, sending England down a very different path. We pick up events in the 1970s, with the Metropolitan Police having established a new department to handle portal-related criminal activity. The story is about intolerance, immigration, multiculturalism and power. It’s about what happens when incompatible viewpoints are weaponised to seed discontent, and the efforts of some to create a fairer world. In the tradition of the best science fiction, fantasy and crime fiction, I’m using the setting to examine themes that matter to me in the real world. Who is it for?If you like science fiction or fantasy, or a mix of both, this is for you. It’s my first foray into crime fiction, but I hope if you’re a fan that you’ll enjoy yourself - especially if you’re looking for something a bit different. I write fiction that is optimistic, progressive and empathetic. Bad things can happen to good people in the stories, but the overall arc tends to be hopeful. Note that if it were a movie, Tales from the Triverse would be a 15 certificate in the UK.
