The Last Embrace Chapter 48

Nana Aida and Adam woken up to a beautiful sunny morning.
The sun's rays was spreading a warm glow into the kitchen through the window, golden rays of the sunlight were bathing the branches and leaves of the trees outside the mansion.
They had finished eating their breakfast awhile ago.
There are some things Adam wants to ask Nana Aida. What really surprised him was that he was suppose to die. He can still remember the moment when he opened his eyes and grasping for breath inside the coffin. The reality dawned on him that he finally died and was buried, but he was still breathing, he can't be dead! He started trashing inside the coffin wanting to get out, and to his amazement he still retains his power. He uses his power to split the coffin's lid in half and immediately wet soil come rushing in to cover his body. He clawed his way out of his coffin with super human strength, he finally breathed fresh air above the surface of the grave while the rain is pouring heavily in torrents around him. He was grateful that he was resurrected from death but with the current chaotic condition with his family and Jessy, he might as well be dead.
"Nana, tell me, what happen after I died? I was supposed to die on that day and never wake up," he asked with confusion in his eyes.
"I fed you with Jess' blood," said Nana Aida smiling proudly of what she had done for Adam.
"W-haaat?" his eyes widens in surprised. The blood drained from his face.
"Yes, that's what I did," she was bewildered by the look of agitation that suddenly appeared on Adam's eyes.
"But Nana, you shouldn't have done it! It's a terrible mistake to begin with!" he protested in a cold voice.
Nana Aida looked at Adam frowning. Wasn't he supposed to be grateful to her for saving his life?
"And why is that-?" she asked, more confused than ever.
"Because the first person to drink Jess blood should be Prince Zain-my brother. That has been known to my family's circle for many years. Her first drop of blood was reserved for her husband to be. Whoever drinks the savior's blood the moment she transforms into a vampire, that being will also become powerful like her. Jess' blood is the reason why I am being resurrected from death,"

Adam sighed.
"This gonna cause a big problem later. Not only that I had stolen the heart of my brother's future wife, but I also had stolen the power that is meant for him, not really my intention to do so in the first place. I rather died than betray him again," he added in a sad tone.
"B-but...your mother instructed me to do it," she defended herself.
"Huh? My mother? She's the one who ordered you to do it!?" Adam screeched, he can't believe it.
"Yes," replied Nana Aida.
He massaged his temple feeling wretched inside. His mother must be so desperate to save him from death, that is why even if it's wrong she still ordered Nana to do the deed. What will his father think if he knows what his mother has done? He will surely feel angry and God knows what he can do to his mother out of anger. It will surely create internal conflict in the family if the secret will be known.
Adam groaned and shook his head many times. "How am I supposed to get Jessy back with all this mess, now that my sin and guilt is adding up?" he said in a sad voice.
Nana Aida's eyes turned red. "W-what did you say? You remember Jessy now?"
"Yes. I know Jessy of course, she is the love of my life," he suddenly broke into a sheepish smile.
"You mean to say, you just pretended yesterday that you didn't know her!?" she asked in an indignant voice.
"No. Actually, I wanted you to believe that I have forgotten everything about Jessy. Then I will disappear from this mansion forever and never coming back. That was the original plan. Actually, I should have just disappeared after I was resurrected. I just want to continue pretending that I'm dead. Maybe that way I can leave everyone in peace."
"Why? You don't want to get Jessy back?" asked Nana Aida feeling upset.
"I wanted to. Just that I can't possibly waltz in there in the Facility and claimed Jessy like I'm some kind of a crazy horrible bastard without a heart and conscience. I will become the ultimate black sheep in the eyes of my family and my clan. Besides, I already have taken away everything from my brother. I can no longer add more to my sins. This guilt is eating me inside every single day. I don't even know how to face my brother, my family and my entire clan anymore. I felt I'm an outcast!"

"So, you just give up on Jessy in the arms of your brother, just like that?" A dread is forming in Nana Aida's heart.
"I don't want to Nana, but I'm in a very difficult situation right now. I can't be selfish and take everything away from my brother again, it's not acceptable on my part."
"You mean to say-?"
"I just have to give up Jessy in this lifetime," he said without hesitation.
The more he speaks about forgetting Jessy, the more his heart sunk heavier.
Nana Aida got misty eyed. "This is sad...now that you are alive, it should be a happy ending. Why it has to end in a sad ending again and the situation is even more worst than before?"
"Nana, as long you won't tell Jessy am alive, everything will turn out okay. You have to promise me that you won't tell Jessy that am alive. She has to continue believing that am dead. It's the best solution for everyone. I will continue being dead in the eyes of many so that Jessy and my brother can go on with their lives without any interruption from me. Perhaps, Jessy can learn to love my brother and they will have a happy marriage and raise children on their own. Maybe one day, I can finally go back to my family and ask forgiveness from my brother," he said in wishful thinking. Deep inside, his heart is already bleeding for Jessy.
Nana Aida seemed to agree with him because she finally nodded. "You're making sense. So, what are you going to do with your life? What is your plan?"
"I will explore the world outside. I'm human now with great power. It's about time to roam the world. I used to hide before because of my horrible appearance, now that I have a new look, I don't need to be ashamed of myself anymore. I can face anyone and I can do anything I wanted to do with my life. I won't waste this second chance of life that has been awarded to me. I will take advantage of this and enjoy my life," there's a twinkle of excitement in his eyes.
Nana Aida doesn't like the way Adam talk in an animated way about those things as if they were more important than Jessy. How can he discard Jessy so easily?
"You are a selfish, child! I said this on behalf of Jessy!" she blurted out.
Adam sighed. "Nana, please don't get angry at me. You know how much I love Jessy. Just that our love is toxic. We hurt and betrayed my brother so much. It has to end with my death," he said.
Nana Aida kneaded her temple as if experiencing a headache. "When you will be gone?" she asked with sadness in her eyes.
"In a few days. I can't stay here any longer. Jessy might be back anytime soon. If I see her again I might not be able to get away from her anymore. I will go away while I still have the courage to do so," he said in a sad voice.
When everything has been said and done, Adam sighed, he rose to his feet and walked out of the dining room with a slumped shoulder, a sign of defeat and regrets.
Nana Aida was left alone cleaning the dishes all by herself. In spite of Adam's grievances she still believes that she did the right thing in feeding him Jess' blood. She will do it again without hesitation if the needs arises in the future.
Later that night...
Adam stayed on Jess' room. He runs his fingers on the surface of her bed, on her dresses, on her bathrobe, and lay down on her comfy bed. He took the picture frame from the drawer, he smiled fondly at her smiling face. Then he kissed her forehead and pressed the picture frame close to his heart.
"Goodbye Jessy...you will always be my one and only true love," he whispered in the air with a deep longing so intense he felt like his heart was being ripped out violently from his rib cage.
Fresh tears sprung from his eyes, he will never find any other girl as good, loyal, and loving as Jessy. The only girl who love and accepted him unconditionally when he is at his ugliest self. He's starting to feel terribly lonely and his heart is becoming a huge pool of emptiness that is swallowing him from the inside.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.

Patchwork System
Notification (cannot be ignored): For being the first being to kill another of its own species after Sublimation, Lyam Aldren is awarded the Title of Cain’s Successor. Let all fear the Kinslayer!!! Lyam Aldren, killer for hire, was just going about his business when he suddenly received a notification from something called the System. Apparently, the entirety of Earth, its denizens and its matter were transported into the world of the System, planted in 'patches' all throughout the infinite world. The world of the Patchwork System is one of challenges, where life is cheap, power is king, and Classes and levels are a thing. In a brutal world, there is perhaps room for a killer with bloodstained hands to find his own way, free of his past. However, his Title and his inherent nature plague him, his fragmented personality laid bare to those with the eyes to see, and if he doesn't become powerful enough to defeat or escape those who would use or destroy him, he will quickly be devoured by the merciless world created by the System. Compared to my previous work, this is a more 'classic' litrpg setup, with clear (if somewhat complex) progression through levels and skill gains, with a 'system apocalypse' setup. Unlike most system apocalypse story protagonists, Lyam is neither a leader nor is he particularly interested in saving his fellow Earthlings. This is a story of a man who is both endangered and set free by the destruction of his old world, as he finds both power, new discoveries, and adventure in a place where his past matters not at all and power is the only language most speak. Later in the story, there will be harem elements, but the first volume is dedicated to Lyam's first months in the System. For those who are more interested in the Heirs of the Hooded King, I am putting it on hiatus as I rework the setting and future story developments a bit.
