Blood Elf Monarch Chapter 29

"An elf?"
Tristan was a little bit startled that the short guy could actually tell that he was an elf. Meanwhile, the brown-haired man and the attendant were shocked when they heard the cloaked man was one of the esteemed. The man turned his head to his companion and saw that he was serious.
Clapping his hands together, the brown-haired man said with a smile, "Ahh! If an elf joined our party, the job will surely be much easier to finish!"
The man looked at Tristan with a hopeful gaze. Alas, Tristan still kept his silence, as he tried to read more into the situation before saying anything else.
While Tristan was still in doubt, the short guy added, "You need to know, brother. He is not just any normal elf."
The brown-haired man was surprised, "Huh?! What do you mean?" He then observed Tristan closely, "He does not look like a dark elf to me."
"No, of course no. He's not a dark elf, but he is very strong."
Tristan kept his calm while directing his attention to the short guy, observing him carefully. He then realized that under his dark cloak, the guy was constantly playing with some kind of a bracelet in his hand.
The other two people who came together with the short and brown-haired man were also curious, they wondered what made their companion say Tristan was very strong. Fortunately, their question was quickly answered by the short guy.
"This elf has a battle power of 100, brother even you can't overpower him." said the short guy while looking at the brown-haired man.
Surprise was seen on the man's face before it quickly turned into excitement, "Wow! Really? That's really great!" He then returned to Tristan and said, "I truly respect a strong fighter! You can call me Borin. What is your name, sir elf?"

Tristan wanted to know more information from this group. Hence, he decided to take a friendly attitude. After all, the other party approached him with good intention.
"My name is Tristan. This is my sister, Layla.:
"Hi all.." Layla greeted with a smile.
The four people were turning their head left and right, comparing the two of them. They were dumbfounded by the stark difference the siblings had with each other.
The short guy, who apparently was called Piyo, was about to ask but Layla beat him to it as she said, "Yes. I am adopted, alright?"
Borin and the others were startled for a second, before they exploded into a loud laughter, "Hahaha! You both are hilarious." Collecting himself, Borin looked at Tristan again and said, "How about my suggestion? Will you join us to complete the job?"
Tristan fell into deep thought, contemplating the matter seriously. After a short while, he finally nodded his head, "Sure."
The reason he agreed with Borin's suggestion was because he knew he had to work with someone at some point, as going solo would sometimes be nearly impossible to do. Hence, he planned to take advantage of this opportunity to experience working in a group.
These 4 people could be useful for him. However, there was still one thing that he needed to confirm first.
"However, you need to agree to my one condition."
Borin was surprised by the sudden request from Tristan, but of course, he would not immediately reject it. "Let's hear it first."
"Because I came with my sister here, I expect to split the reward to 6 portions, not 5."
Tristan's request seemed to offend the other man who held a spear in his hand, but Borin quickly stopped the man with his hand, "Because we highly value your strength, we will accept your request, sir elf."

"Great let's get started then!" replied Tristan with a smile.
With the two parties having come to an agreement, Tristan immediately followed Piyo's advice and switched his Copper badge into a Silver one. Seeing the gleaming badge in his hand, he once again thought how beneficial his new body was.
Tristan could notice the change of attitude in the cat ear female attendant towards him, which turned much more polite than before.
With 5 Silver adventurers teaming up, they could officially take the job.
Before they went towards the village in the posting, Borin asked Tristan to join in the discussion. The 4 people then began to introduce themselves. The brown-haired man, Borin, was the leader and acted as the one who confronted the enemies first, the Defender.
The tall slender man wielding a spear, the one who was offended by Tristan's request, was called Seth. He was a Lancer. The short guy, Piyo, acted as the Scout of the group, which was completely understandable given the stature he had. It was extremely supportive for his profession.
Meanwhile, the last person, a woman with short purple hair, Herrera, was apparently a Fire magician.
Tristan noticed that these people had some kind of class name for their profession, which caught his interest. However, the one who he was most interested in was the Fire magician. Noticing Tristan's gaze, the woman returned it with a flirtatious smile.
Layla saw Tristan looking at the female magician, and noticed the alluring body she had. Hence, she commented in a small voice, "Ooh.. I see a man thinking with his lower parts."
Tristan wisely acted as if he did not hear anything.
…
They decided to meet up in the same place tomorrow, first thing in the morning, so that they could go on the journey together.
It appeared that the journey to the Orc's camp would take two days. Boris told Tristan to make sure he brought proper equipment and items, especially for Layla.
Afterwards, they left the Adventure Guild and went their separate ways.
The moment the two siblings entered the streets, Tristan's enhanced sense suddenly perceived groups of people approaching them from multiple sides.
"Layla, stay close to me! We are surrounded!"

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
