Magical Academy: Rise Of The Supreme Magic Craftsman Chapter 66

Kyla created a second layer of mana protection on her body that allows her to defend against Shirley's sonic attack.
Using her superb mana manipulation, she created this skill and named it "Mana Insulation" with Sheryl's recommendation. The concept of this is quite simple but unfortunately, aside from taxing mana consumption while maintaining the skill, the user will also be unable to hear any sounds at all.
But for the sake of defending against Ultrasonic Burst and having a chance to counter-attack, it is just a small price to pay.
Kyla can only maintain Mana Insulation for 30 seconds so she has to defeat Shirley as quickly as possible. Fortunately, her opponent wasn't aware of her limitation and how large her mana consumption is so she may have a longer time where she can use it to bluff as well.
But she can't bet on that, she must take down Shirley before her Mana Insulation dissipated. Kyla rapidly thought and planned her attack in an attempt to destroy her opponent's Mana Shell.
Booom!
An explosion suddenly resounded as Kyla was about to attack Shirley. Of course, she hadn't heard anything but only felt that her Domain Magic had taken damage. She was maintaining the spell around her as protection from any incoming magic attacks and felt another huge consumption of mana was triggered to maintain her Domain Magic.
She realized that Shirley was now circling around her very fast as she uses another magic spell in an attempt to destroy her Continuous Flame Orbit and shatter her Mana Shell.
At first, Shirley defended against the onslaught of her opponent's magic. She used Water Sphere Protection against the domain but she felt that if this continued, she wouldn't win. She has to attack instead and break Kyla's defense.
Shirley used a haste spell and circled around Kyla looking for the best angle. After she saw an opportunity, she pointed her Sonic Gun and used her other spell.
"Echo Blast!"
This is an entirely different magic spell compared to Ultrasonic Burst. The latter is an inaudible and invisible magic spell that directly affects unprotected magicians.

But this time, the Echo Blast was a sphere of mana that was thrown to Kyla. Although it ultimately hadn't reached her Mana Shell, the damage it dealt to her domain magic is massive. It took Kyla a huge amount of mana to retain her domain and hadn't been able to counter-attack.
Shirley hadn't left unscathed as she miscalculated the power of her Echo Blast when it hit Kyla's Flame Orbit. Although, it destroyed a part of her opponent's defense, the massive vibration after their mana spell collision affected her Mana Shell as it trembled crazily before she was able to stabilize it.
"That was surely dangerous. I really should keep my distance before activating that spell."
Shirley said and noticed that she can now use again her Ultrasonic Burst. She did not hurry and try to use it against Kyla but tried to analyze the latter's abnormality.
She noticed that Kyla has a bit of delayed responses in her action. Although it wasn't much, it still caught her attention.
Wallace had taught Shirley on how to defend against Ultrasonic Burst. The magic spell utilizes unperceivable frequency to affect her opponent. Wallace realized that Mana Shell could not defend against this kind of attack so he developed the artifact aiming to take advantage of this, so the Sonic Gun was born. He also advised Shirley that if a magician could defend against the spell, they must have an ability to stop the sound coming for them.
'It means that the opponent isn't hearing any sound and only depending on their sight and mana detection.'
Shirley remembered Wallace's advice as she noticed Kyla's reaction to her few attacks.
Although it doesn't seem to be too disadvantaged, with 4th gen mana artifacts, their senses were boosted to the highest level they could achieve. Listening ability doesn't pale in comparison with vision skills.
"Blinding Mist Fog!"
This is the skill that first-year magicians from Leonhearts used. Of course, this skill wasn't originally with Wallace but he improved the version up to his standard to give a good combination with Ultrasonic Burst.

A fog quickly covered the whole stage obstructing Kyla's sight.
Now, Kyla could only depend on her mana detection. In case that Kyla could summon a magic spell to clear the fog, it would still give Shirley a few seconds to send her attack.
'Tsk.. 20 seconds more. I can't stay like this.'
Kyla couldn't maintain her Mana Insulation for too long so she plans to expend all her Mana to end the battle. She knows that Shirley will send her attack somewhere so she hastily strengthened her defense.
The Domain Magic retracted and now only covers 3 meters around her. Although the range is shorter, the defense it could give to her multiplied. After she confirmed that her defense was now solid, she readied to cast another spell. Another Grade 2 spell that will consume half of her mana.
Before she completed the spell, Shirley used another Echo Blast but this time, the effect wasn't solid due to Kyla's tight defense. It dealt with damage to her Continuous Flame Orbit but not enough to destroy it completely.
Kyla couldn't tell where Shirley was but it doesn't matter with her next spell.
"Frost Blade Tempest!"
Kyla canceled her Domain Magic to send this Grade 2 magic spell. The cancellation only took less than a second then the Tempest was sent. Hundred of Frost Blade appeared around her orbiting in fast-paced as it extends to the whole stage clearing the fog exposing Shirley.
Sheryl the Frost Queen couldn't just forget her origin. Although she was now looking for her own Magician's Path, as a descendant of Vermont Family who created Red Frost Magic, she was knowledgeable in any Ice Magic out there. Although the Domain Magic she created made her proud of herself, she couldn't say that she had achieved better than her family's heritage. So despite her confidence in her domain magic, she still placed her family's Frost Blade Tempest as an assurance to win in the competition.
A cluster of blade made of ice hovered and circled the stage and eliminated any obstructions.
Shirley tried to distance herself from the tempest but the blades were quickly following her leaving her unable to cast a defensive spell. She was really surprised about this Grade 2 spell, she felt that she could never cast this spell, like how Kyla did.
'This should be consuming too much mana on her as well.'
Shirley thought as she looked Kyla on the distance, her tired look said it all but she wasn't in a good condition. Dozens of blades now surrounded her and were about to succumb in the tempest, she couldn't escape anymore.
'That should be enough.'
Shirley pointed her Sonic Gun on Kyla not bothering to defend against the blades of frost. As soon as she activated the Ultrasonic Burst spell, the dozens of blade also landed at her.
The collision of her defense and frost blades left some mist covering her body.
The audiences were on their edge as they want to know who won the fight. They saw Kyla's Mana Shell shattered as Shirley activated the spell.
Everyone exclaimed and some even sighed in disappointment.
"So in the end, no one can defeat Shirley."
"Kyla did her best. She was the only one who lasted this long against her."
"Mhm. She was even almost defeated by Kyla's frost blade."
As they commented, the mist around Shirley cleared and they noticed that her Mana Shell was also shattered.
"This..."
"So whose mana shell shattered first, Shirley or Kyla?"
"Look at the referees. They seem to be discussing the result of the battle."
The referees stopped the fight and were now talking with each other. After a few seconds, they seemed to make an agreement and announced the result.
