Chapter 717: 717
Chapter 717: Success in Baiting the Enemy
“The Desert Nematode territory is just in front. Everyone, don’t stop once you’re in, but charge straight forward,” Feng Luo commanded. “Mu Zi, you take the front and light the Ambergris.”
Two minutes later, they reached Underground somewhere at the front of the military base.
Feng Luo held the Wings of Death with a layer of red life armor around his body, shooting behind him as he yelled at everyone.
“Roger!”
Mu Zi ran as he took out the last piece of a fist-sized Ambergris from his tactical vest.
The group ran as fast as they can to the entrance of the base.
Hiss!
Once they entered, the initially dark field was lit up by the lighting tools.
When they had a clear view of the situation before them, Skynet and Watermelon Skin couldn’t help but let out a gasp, and even Dan Hen’s face twitched.
In front of everyone was a vast area which looked like a sports court or a square, 10 times wider than the path they were running in.
In the middle of this 10,000-square-meter region was a monster.
It was a creature entangled together in clumps, all black and looking like snakes, but more like metallic wires, wiggling in this considerably huge region. Upon being shone on with light, it displayed an oily metal-like blackness.
The projection on Mu Zi’s Recon Meter had already turned into a dense patch of yellow. As it was all so clustered, the numbers couldn’t be detected at all.
But there were undeniably at least 10,000.
“Desert Nematode, Level 55 cluster monster, HP: 8,000!”
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh…
As this sea of uncountable black nematodes on the ground charged at Feng Luo and the others, a change transpired instantly.
Some of the Desert Nematodes closer to them rapidly untangled their slimy bodies from their coiled state and charged at them like slithering snakes.
Then those in the middle…those further…until across them…
In an instant, the entire sea of worms moved as if they had all gotten the news, dispersing into the surroundings like ripples when a stone was thrown onto the water surface.

The moment this ten-thousands of Level 55 monsters lunged over, the consequences need not be mentioned.
Skynet and Watermelon Skin were horrified.
Poof!
Just then, Mu Zi lit the last piece of Ambergris by friction, using a military knife. A refreshing and calming scent rapidly dispersed into the surrounding.
The closest nematodes that had already rushed in, and was less than five meters from them, suddenly appeared distressed. It was as if they had encountered a kryptonite and started to flee in all directions.
The black nematodes nearby that had smelled the scent became like tidal waves hitting a firm rock as they turned and rammed backward, clashing into the nematodes in the middle, eventually forming a wide area of about 10 meters surrounding the people.
“Hurry! This bit of Ambergris can’t last much longer.” Feng Luo looked back and threw the last smoke bomb from his backpack. He then called on the remaining six people to move through the black nematode sea.
Including Feng Luo, there were now only seven people left.
Compared to the 10 minutes at the start, in this short two minutes, five people’s entire lives had been taken.
As their supplies were extremely lacking, with the frontline’s equipment seriously damaged, and Ion Flame’s MP depleted as well, the team had to flee in these two minutes. My World with steel armor, Dai, Azure, as well as Ion Flame had all been killed.
Luckily, the remaining seven people were all fine. The Light Armored Warriors’ and Gunners’ speed hadn’t waned as they ran all-out.
With Mu Zi carrying the Ambergris to keep the Desert Nematodes at bay, the group had charged out of the region in just about 10 seconds.
As they charged past the Desert Nematode horde, the Freedom Flag people had already reached its other end—the region formed by the smoke bomb that Feng Luo had thrown in.
“Charge straight on!”
“That Sniper has definitely no more bullets!”
“F*ck! We were tricked by him!”
Voices of frustration and rage echoed from the Freedom Flag people.
Previously, Feng Luo used the psychology of helping and made use of the last Psionic Energy bullet to contain them for a period of time. Doing this, they thought that Feng Luo was deliberately pretending to do that.

They finally realized that Feng Luo really could no longer fire that kind of black bullet.
As such, the Warrior players running at the front charged forward without hesitation once they had entered the smoky region.
Some of the Scouts lagging them were unable to notice the danger ahead of them, as Mu Zi and Dan Hen had engaged the disruption function on the Recon Meter.
Furthermore, even if they had detected it, they wouldn’t be able to point it out in time—the speed of the Charge of Warrior players was extremely fast at this point.
Then the outcome was understood.
“F*ck! What’s this?”
“F*ck me! Why are there so many monsters?”
“D*mn it! They’re Level 55 cluster monsters!”

In the smoky region, where one couldn’t tell any direction, a part of the gang of Warrior players who had just rushed out met with the Desert Nematode horde that was no longer retreating since the scent of the Ambergris had dispersed.
The few Warrior players were being taken in an instant by these metal strip-like Desert Nematodes, which had great coiling power. They coiled around their necks, calves, and waists; and some Desert Nematodes even went straight into their mouths and ears.
With this, it was naturally a disaster.
The Level 55 monsters, though they were cluster monsters, were definitely not weak in their abilities.
As the people at the front were mostly coiled at the limbs, they couldn’t move at all. Following that, they were instantly engulfed by the black Desert Nematodes and dragged deep into the sea like a gigantic black cocoon, screaming in agony.
The people behind halted in their steps with horror on their faces.
Tornado…
Arctic Rain…
Eventually, the Manipulators, who were lagging as their physical strength had faltered, finally caught up and threw skills to disperse the smoke ahead.
Looking at the scene before them and the dumpling-like Warrior players struggling within the sea of Desert Nematodes, the faces of the people left behind turned pale one after the other.
They gritted their teeth as they realized that they had once again fallen into the trap of that Sniper at the front.
…
The numbers of this sea of Desert Nematode were horrifying. However, as a kind of cluster monster, their weaknesses were obvious too.
First, these creatures were afraid of fire. This led a few members of the Freedom Flag Manipulator team to throw firewalls over once they had arrived, making the black Desert Nematodes that swarmed over like tidal waves scurry away, instantly deserting the battlefield.
Second, these Desert Nematodes were all entangled together. Hence, just one range skill attack would be able to engulf a few hundreds of them, allowing the Manipulators’ output effectiveness to be definitely 100 times better than that of the Gunners and Warriors in this situation.
The number of people of the Freedom Flag was close to 300, although over 20 people had been slain by Feng Luo. During the battle, the Manipulators who had been at the back were almost unharmed.
Overall, it was a victory for them even though they had lost a bunch of people to this Desert Nematode trap.
The remaining Freedom Flag people quickly regrouped to attack the continuously charging Desert Nematodes. They had managed to quickly stabilize the situation and even gradually secured the upper hand.
“The command on the other side is not bad!”
On this side of the Desert Nematode sea, Dan Hen, who wasn’t in a hurry to leave, made use of a foldable viewing mirror to look behind and said, “Not bad, yes. But they’d need at least five minutes to clear those Desert Nematodes, and they don’t have five minutes!”
A smile suddenly formed on Feng Luo’s lips.
“We’re here!” Mu Wu announced in a morbid voice from Feng Luo’s communicator. During this time, two-thirds of those Desert Nematodes had been cleared.
Above the Underground City, the sky had already turned brighter.
Beyond the military base at the surface behind the gigantic sand dune where there were many abandoned SUVs, a large-scaled vehicle line formed by up to 100 mighty SUVs sent sand particles flying as they drove on, with a few Federal NPC military armored combat vehicles in the middle.

Virtuous Cultivation
-July 10, 2022- Stocked Chapters: 8 I'm out of hiatus, but honestly, I can't trust myself to post consistently anymore... A new arc is about to begin, and I'll start posting again once the entirety is done. It might take a year, but honestly, this story is going to go on for the foreseen future anyway... so I suppose that's just a blip in the grand scheme of things? I'll leave updates here every once in a while, if for some reason you're still actively checking on this incredibly slow story T-T The path of cultivation is often portrayed as one stained by bloodshed. But is that truly necessary? Heaven is merciful, after all. On a rather ordinary day, a peasant girl was whisked away by a strange old man. In a hall of great white jade, she was offered the chance to cultivate. ...too bad she's as lazy as a sloth. Slice of life Xianxia with fairly little action in early chapters, more focused on comedy. The Core And The Wardens of Eternity
What is the Core, they asked me... It's the light that pushes the darkness away, a bastion of justice, a safe keeper of life. It grooms love and tolerance, embraces science, fights ignorance, sentences it to die a slow and tragic death. The Core... it's something that can't be destroyed for destroying it is to terminate the time and space itself. When the stuck-in-a-dark-age world of Zanria goes offline, the Core sends one of its experienced agents to find out what is going on and to try to reestablish a mysteriously severed connection. However, all his training and experience might come way short as the world sinks in war and chaos with different races and clans fighting for the Star of Bardan, the ward rumored to possess enough supernatural power to create and destroy entire worlds. *** I just changed the name of the series, from 'the Nexus' to 'the Core'. Somehow it just sounds more right to me. This is the first story, and it has a medieval fantasy setting. But, eventually, this is going to turn into Isekai series with elements of LitRPG. So, my future books might include worlds with advanced technologies that might be more in SciFi, including Steampunk, genre. The first book might start slow, but after a few chapters, it should all be properly set up, and by then you should get the feel of how it will all flow. Also, I plan to introduce different story threats that should spread out and criss-cross in the future. Hopefully, I will not complicate it too much, and that it will all read good. I am planning to continue to add chapters to the main storyline here, but I'm also starting a new story threat in the Core series called The Recordings of Raan. There is also a side story The Memoires of Eisen that's exclusive on Patreon for those who would like to support me.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter. This story is also being posted to Scribblehub.
