Chapter 202: Pet Houndfish

As he neared the silhouette and the details grew clearer and clearer, Chu Xian could see the giant figure in his mind’s power, and his expression leaked out excitement.

“Shark! It’s a shark!”

Chu Xian’s eyes flashed. He didn’t encounter sharks often, but he had hunted down a great white before.

That great white shark was huge, and its silhouette in the water took up a vast amount of space, but this particular shark was not any where as big as that one had been.

This was a more lithe and far weaker piked dogfish. It had more defined lines than other sharks, and a sharp protrusion from its back. Flat, triangular teeth filled its mouth, and its crowns were mucronate leaf blades. The teeth that lined the front of its mouth were straight and tilted slightly backwards, and it had straightforward flat roots without signs of grooves.

This was a piked dogfish, and one that stretched at least four meters long!

“I wonder how much energy this piked dogfish has?”

Expectation rose in Chu Xian’s heart. The truth was, the piked dogfish was not a particularly dangerous shark, and had many natural predators. The protruding thorn on its back was its primary defense against the animals that preyed upon it.

But its combat ability was not particularly strong, and it was even possible that its energy would not amount to much more than Chu Xian’s current level.

“If it’s around my level, then I could even dominate it and gain a pet piked dogfish, and if I can remold it, then this will help be a huge boost to my power!”

As his mind wandered to future possibilities, Chu Xian picked up speed and darted forward at the houndfish.

“But that’s right. Both seagulls and sharks are natural predators of sea snakes, and other than these two species sea snakes don’t have many other natural enemies. The size of sharks and their natural condition lets them ignore the sea snake venom!”

Chu Xian’s mind pulled up some information about sea snakes, and his eyes flashed!

But just as he was thinking about these things, the nearby dogfish lurched forward, and with a powerful dash of its tail, lunged at Chu Xian.

“Haha, this is my first time fighting face to face with a shark, amazing. You can test out my power!” Chu Xian watched the shark rush him without any sense of panic, and the shark’s challenge ignited his will to fight.

Ever since he had gained this power to transform, he had only rarely fought fish that posed a challenge. “Tough!” Chu Xian smiled, and another water ball formed in his mouth, but this time it danced with jolts of electricity.

“Yi!” When Chu Xian launched this attack, the dogfish intelligently dodged out of its path. The distance between the two was still a significant factor, and the shark dodged easily!

“Heng, even if its close combat, I have no fear!” Chu Xian watched as the shark dodged out of the way of the electricity and snorted coldly. He did not try at another ranged attack and directly pounced forward.

The dogfish’s body was thin, and its head as only around the size of a large basin. Though Chu Xian’s body was even thinner, his head more than matched the shark’s.

“Ka!’

The shark pounced, its large mouth opening for a snapping bite at Chu Xian’s head.

Coldness flash through Chu Xian’s eyes, and the two large claws on either side of his head dashed forward with electricity, and his charged claws smashed into the shark’s head. Small wounds immediately appeared on the shark’s skin, and blood flowed into the water.

“Hong!” With a clap of shock, the shark’s head recoiled from the powerful blow, and the pain twisted the dogfish’s body. Its body flailed violently as it angled in for another bite.

“Hei hei, attack my head. My head is the toughest part of my body!” Chu Xian watched calmly as the shark’s gaping mouth lunged towards his face, and he made no move to doge. He had no hint of panic even as the large teeth enclosed his vision.

But Chu Xian was obviously not into mooching with a shark, and his mouth snapped out to bite the shark as it attacked, and his sharp teeth pierced through the shark’s tough body.

The dogfish also landed its attack, but Chu Xian’s charged claws reached into the shark’s mouth and stopped the snapping bite. The shark’s attack could not break through Chu Xian’s thick scales.

“Bind!” Chu Xian’s body snapped around, and like a huge constrictor snake, wrapped around this dogfish’s body with slapping sounds that reverberated through the water.

“Haha!” Chu Xian’s mouth gaped wide, and his head was now just above the dogfish’s. The shark was completely surrounded by Chu Xian’s constricting grasp.

“Gugu!” The shark flailed every which way, stirring up huge currents as it struggled against the entangling pressure.

“Behave!” Chu Xian thought loudly, and strong electricity jolted through his body.

The shark was jolted, and tensed up in the same manner of a human’s convulsive throes.

Chu Xian reeled in his electricity, and activated his ruling ability.

“En? Such strong resistance!” Chu Xian quickly felt the shark resisting his command, and he used his claws to smash the head of the dogfish.

“Peng!” Blood splattered into the sea.

Blood flowed from the wound, and the dogfish renewed its thrashing flails. Chu Xian hung on tightly, shifting slightly to better bind the shark.

“Peng!” Another crushing blow smashed into the dogfish’s head, and the resistance against Chu Xian’s ruling demand lessoned. He lifted his claw back for another attack.

Chu Xian attacked another seven or eight times, and very quickly, four or five large wounds covered the dogfish’s head. All of these blows were powerful strikes, but Chu Xian was careful to hold himself back from an accidental kill, and continued his attacks.

“Hu! Success!” Five minutes later, the dogfish’s body was covered in wounds and it was half limp and on the verge of death, but Chu Xian successfully forced the shark under his command.

“Isn’t this just chasing after suffering?” Chu Xian uncoiled his body, and looked over the dogfish as it lay on the seabed. He smiled, reminded of those pet capture games – first you need to subdue the pets, and then you can succeed in the capture.

But unlike in games, the ruled dogfish didn’t recover immediately. Chu Xian looked it over, and began remolding it.

Over course it was impossible to remold a four meter long shark into a human, but Chu Xian did not have that as his goal. After all, it would be a bit of a pity if he turned this fierce pet into a man.

“I’ll be relying on you to catch sea snakes in the future!” Chu Xian smiled as he managed the transformation.

The dogfish kept its original form, but its size dramatically shrunk.

Since he was remolding the shark, it would definitely need to be able to talk, but sharks did not have vocal cords and therefore could not make sounds. Chu Xian wanted it to be able to communicate just like the mermen, and speak in human words.

At the same time, it needed a greater intelligence, and would need to at least be able to communicate. Chu Xian also attached two claws to the shark’s body, with high-tech like appendages to better latch onto and grasp objects. This would help the shark capture and contain sea snakes.

That was right. Chu Xian was remolding the dogfish into a pet for catching sea snakes.

Because the dogfish had been devouring sea snakes, it was clear it already had an instinctive urge to find snakes for food. In the future, Chu Xian would earn a lot of money by having this pet capture sea snakes for him.

About half an hour later, the shrunken shark reappeared in front of him. Its three meter long body looked almost exactly like that of a normal dogfish.

“Test out your claw!” Chu Xian commended silently.

The dogfish paused as if in thought, and then with a little shift, a one meter long claw suddenly extended out of its body. The shark looked at the claw with great confusion, and shifted it around in unnatural and stilted motion.

“Good! Excellent!” Chu Xian smiled excitedly. “He will be a great helper after Old Huang has taught him the ropes!”

“Lets go. Your name is Xiao Jiao from now on!” Chu Xian thought, and swam back towards the fishing ship with Xiao Jiao.

Five minutes later, Chu Xian climbed back aboard. He looked around with a satisfied heart as the mermen busied themselves with capturing sea snakes.
