Chapter 278: 278
Chapter 278: Swamp Hydra’s Evolution Path
The battle between Locke and Hathaway had finally come to an end.
“You’re so bad. I’m still injured. Don’t you know how to be more gentle?”
Hathaway lay in Locke’s arms, pressing her chin against his chest.
“Forget it. Who was the one who insisted on fighting me for 300 rounds? My old waist was almost broken by you.”
Locke looked aggrieved.
Although the strength of the old man was not worth mentioning, it was the first time that the Swamp Hydra fought on its own.
As its master, even if it did not go over to help, it should be there to hold the line.
If it encountered danger, it could also make up for it in time.
At the very least, he should not be fighting with Hathaway here until the Swamp Hydra was finished.
“Don’t you dare say it.”
Hathaway quickly covered Locke’s mouth and giggled.
Although the two of them had often fought before, it was the first time that they had gone into hiding like this.
She was a little excited when she thought about it.
After the Swamp Hydra swallowed the Twin-headed Chimera, it unsurprisingly learned the Liquid Flame skill.
Liquid Flame was a variant of fire magic.
The fire element was mixed with the earth element and part of the water element to form a substance that was similar to a strong glue.
Once it stuck to the body, it could not be extinguished.
Even if one had touched it a little, it would burn through the bones.
The Twin-headed Chimera only had space and fire element on the surface. Being able to master the Liquid Flame skill meant that it had good talent in earth and water magic.
Unfortunately, it fell into the hands of the old man and its talent was buried.
Locke habitually glanced at the hidden evolutionary path of the Twin-headed Chimera.

If this Battle Beast had met him when it was young, it would have definitely shone brilliantly.
What a pity!
As for the dead nameless old man, in Locke’s eyes, he was just a fool who had wasted a top-grade Battle Beast.
His death was not worth regretting.
The guards of the castellan’s residence were originally trapped in the swamp
Locke had not intended to kill all of them. The swamp had only swallowed the area to his chest before it stopped.
He did not expect to die in the end under the old man’s Firestorm.
There was nothing worth cleaning on the battlefield. Other than the traces of the Netherworld Swamp and Firestorm, there was only black ash left.
Locke waved his hand, summoning a gust of wind to blow away the dust on the ground.
The original marble floor resurfaced.
As a fine drizzle fell, it quickly returned to its original appearance.
Aside from a few large holes in the tavern, there were no traces of battle left behind.
“Young master, you’ve caused a great disaster. Hurry up and leave before it’s too late.”
“This is your tier-5 magic crystal. Keep it for the road!”
“I have to leave as well. I can’t stay in Cloud City anymore. Sigh!”
The owner of the tavern ran out of nowhere and took out a tier-5 magic crystal to return to Locke. He looked at the tavern that had been running for many years reluctantly.
“I’ll handle the trouble that I’ve caused myself.”
“Don’t worry, it won’t implicate you.”
“Since I’ve given it to you, take it well. Find someone to repair the wall. It can still be used.”
Locke looked at the tavern owner in surprise. He did not expect that this chubby fellow, who seemed to be afraid of death, had a good heart.
“Foreigner, don’t try to be brave. I’ve seen many people like you. None of them will have a good ending.”

“Do you know how City Lord Reid’s Battle Beast, the Raging Inferno Lion, came about?”
The hotel owner tiptoed to Locke’s ear and said in a low voice, “Three years ago, a youth like you came here. His Battle Beast was the Raging Inferno Lion.
“Later, the youth offended young master Morgan and died in the mouth of his Battle Beast.
“A few days later, City Lord Reid announced that he had changed his Battle Beast.
“The Raging Inferno Lion is a rare light-type Battle Beast. Its combat strength is very good, but it’s still a lot weaker than your Holy Light Dragon.
“Think about it, if you bring the Holy Light Dragon into the city so openly, will there be good consequences for helping you?
“Originally, I didn’t want to care about your life and death.
“But Morgan, that b*stard, harmed my daughter. My poor daughter was only 11 years old at that time. God d*mn b*stard, he, he…”
The tavern owner wiped his tears and left quickly.
“I stayed here to take revenge. I’ve already heard that you destroyed Morgan’s lower body, so you’ve avenged me. I came to inform you and repay your kindness. You can do the rest yourself. Whether you die or not is your business. It has nothing to do with me.
“You’re a man who can distinguish between kindness and hatred.”
Looking at the tavern owner who left in a hurry, Locke flicked the tier 5 magic crystal.
“I’ll give it to you. You need money to live elsewhere.”
“Thanks!”
The tavern owner was no longer polite. He caught the magic crystal without even turning his head.
“What should we do now?”
“Cloud City’s city lord is a tier 5 expert. I’m afraid we aren’t a match for him.”
Hathaway also heard their conversation and walked over worriedly.
If not for the antidote, Locke would not have to suffer such grievances.
Also, he would not have to face a tier 5 expert.
“Isn’t he just a tier 5 Beastmaster? Don’t be afraid.
“We can’t always face weaker opponents. Only stronger opponents can increase our strength.
“I was wrong before. In the future, I’ll become stronger as soon as possible.”
“The mountain city incident will never happen again.”
Locke put his arm around Hathaway’s shoulder, his gaze firm.
Ever since he found out that the Twin-headed snake’s hidden evolution path required it to continuously devour other battle beasts, and it even required a blood sacrifice, Locke subconsciously retreated.
After all, a blood sacrifice was too cruel.
Hence, the Twin-headed Swamp Hydra did not continue to advance for a long time.
When the mysterious old man had used Hathaway as a threat and planted a lethal poison, something deep in Locke’s heart broke.
After killing the old man, the Swamp Hydra devoured the old man and the Twin-headed Chimera’s corpses.
This was the beginning of the hidden evolution path.
This time, not only did it obtain Liquid Flame but its magic power also improved greatly.
With the Swamp Hydra’s devouring talent, as long as Locke was ruthless enough, its potential was unimaginable.
At the critical moment, if it devoured the Divine Light Dragon, the Swamp Hydra could also have dragon breath and light attributes.
The Divine Light Dragon’s Dragon Breath was a holy damage that ignored defense.
If the Swamp Hydra could have the Holy Dragon Breath and spit out nine heads consecutively, then a tier 5 city lord would be nothing.
The Divine Light Dragon had followed Locke for a long time and had established a deep relationship with him.
Therefore, Locke was reluctant to give it up.
This time, besides healing Hathaway’s injuries, he also wanted to find the next Battle Beast.
With the hidden evolutionary path, the trash in others’ eyes could be turned into magic in Locke’s hands.
It was not difficult to raise a Battle Beast with Divine Breath.

Dungeon Scholar
Girl meets dungeon. What could go right? A story of a good-hearted Scholar driven by her compassion and curiosity. She might be a little combat averse, but um, isn't that only logical? Love me a good grimdark, but sometimes I want to read feel-good fiction that isn't pure action, romance, or comedy. The plot and characters of Dungeon Scholar won't be all happy and fluffy, and the world will be more dungeons and monsters than rainbows and puppies, but overall the sweet moments should overshadow the bitter. Let's say three dollops of sugar for every pinch of salt, with lemon slices left on the saucers? Enjoy. Note: This is NOT a typical dungeon story. If you are here for the dungeon aspect, then fair warning this will seem incredibly slow-burn to you. The dungeon will eventually become the most important 'character,' arguably, or the second-most important narratively, but you might jump out the window in frustration long before that happens. At its heart, the story's core remains 'girl meets dungeon,' not 'dungeon meets world.' (To be clear, this does or will have a plot! It's just the more conventional story-like elements contribute to Rowena Loress's greater story, not the other way around; no conflict takes center stage until it becomes personally significant to her. How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend
