Chapter 228: 228
Chapter 228: The Charm of 20 Billion
“Oh? Does Ms. Jacqueline also want to raise her status and that of her family to another level?”
“Of course! I don’t want to be a commoner for the rest of my life!” Then, she handed the check to the staff member and signaled him to send it over.
After seeing the amount of 1.5 billion on the check, Vice President Harold said:
“I can guarantee that Ms. Jacqueline will obtain the title of Baron within the next month!”
The fat woman named Jacqueline was so delighted that she hugged the pretty boy next to her!
“Vice President Harold! Please accept my contribution to the merchants!”
“Please also accept my check…”
“And mine!”
Harold pretended to be moved and said, “Good! Although this matter is difficult, I believe that the president will do his best! Let’s create a community of nobles in Wind City and prosper together!”
“Clap… Clap… Clap…”
The magnificent speech once again attracted the applause and cheers of everyone present.
Under this man’s hosting, the scene was almost like a “nobility auction”!
“Mr. Casey! Please don’t misunderstand! Our president is doing all this just for the future prosperity of Water City…” Sphinx could not see Locke’s reaction through his expression, so he decided to pacify him first.
In the next ten minutes, Harold had received a total of more than eight billion checks. He was overjoyed!
Just as everyone was satisfied and prepared to leave, Locke suddenly raised his hand and said, “I bid 20 billion!”
These words made everyone’s eyes focus on him.
20 billion?
Did such a young man have that much money?
Everyone became curious.
“Oh? And this young friend is…?” When Harold heard “20 billion,” his eyes lit up.
He realized that he had never seen Locke before. His eyes became cautious again.

Sphinx immediately explained, “Uh… This is Mr. Casey! He’s here for a vacation in Water City!”
At the same time, he kept looking at Harold.
The two of them had been partners for many years. Harold knew what the other party meant – there was no problem with this person.
20 billion was more than the number of people present! Of course, Mr. Casey had become a big client!
Harold gave the bodyguard a look and asked him to lead the rest of the attendees away.
“Okay, everyone! Please wait for our good news at home!”
These people felt that they were about to get their titles, so they could not be bothered with other matters and left the venue happily.
“Mr. Casey is really young! May I ask where he’s from?” Harold smiled while maintaining caution.
Sphinx immediately told him about Casey’s background.
“Oh… The ore business! Are you really going to offer 20 billion?”
“Of course!”
Locke knew that this was the other party asking him to prove his financial strength.
Locke’s bank card could not be used so he took out his cell phone and dialed Dickens’s number.
“Send me proof of the company’s account immediately!”
Dickens did not know what it was but he did not dare to disobey Locke. After hanging up the phone, he sent the documents required via the computer.
Looking at the bank proof of the company’s account which had more than 50 billion in deposit, Harold finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Belinda was shocked. ‘Is he that rich? And he’s a royal agent?’
Sphinx was about to say something when Locke interrupted him.
“The title I want must be Duke!”
Duke was only second to the title of the king!
This put Harold and the rest in a difficult position. They did not dare to agree immediately.

After all, in the end, the president had the final say in this matter. They were just running errands.
“Uh… Mr. Casey, I need to discuss this matter with the president. But I’m sure that the president will do his best for your contribution to the Chamber of Commerce! Please give me the check first…” Harold said.
“This won’t do! I’ll only give the money when I see the medal and Certificate! Otherwise, this is too unfair for me!”
Locke’s words clearly caught the two men by surprise. They paused and quickly tried to persuade him.
“But… But, this is against the rules…”
“Yes! There are many people who need to be dealt with in such matters…”
“Then forget it! Thank you for the tea. Sister, let’s go!”
Belinda very cooperatively hugged Locke’s arm and walked out.
The two vice presidents wanted to say something to persuade them to stay, but they remembered the president’s iron rule – they had to receive the money first!
Thus, they could only watch unwillingly as Locke and Belinda left.
20 billion was not a small amount!
Countless people had never seen so much money in their lives, let alone earned it!
This was because Locke had seen through the greedy nature of the two vice presidents and was testing their bottom line!
“Will this work?”
As they walked out of the door, Belinda asked in a low voice.
“Don’t worry, you didn’t notice the way that Harold took the check earlier. He’s definitely a miser!” Locke was very confident.
“I believe you for the time being. I guess they’re discussing it now, but they’ll definitely investigate our background.” Belinda smiled.
“With Old Pete around, don’t worry! All that’s left is to wait.” After walking to the riverbank, Locke called for a boat.
After returning to the hotel, Belinda immediately reported to Captain Miles, who was hiding in the dark.
“That’s great! 20 billion! Anyone would be tempted! They will definitely take the bait! Looks like I underestimated Locke before! I didn’t expect it to go so smoothly! You guys continue to cooperate with the rest. You have to find out why they can sell the titles to commoners! This is a big deal! I’ll immediately communicate with Secretary Peter. This mission cannot reveal any flaws! You guys continue to play your parts well. Don’t let the other party suspect your identity!”
Belinda, who was wearing pajamas, looked at Locke, who was lying on the sofa eating fruits. She smiled and said, “I didn’t expect you to be so capable. It’s not common for our captain to praise people…”
Locke’s expression was calm. This was not a difficult thing for him.
The reason was very simple. Other than being rich, he had also seen through people’s hearts!
Ordinary people either relied on money or reputation in their lives.
It was precisely because of this that things would go smoothly as planned.
After stretching, Locke asked, “Did you bring a swimsuit?”
This suggestion made Belinda very happy. They were going to the beach to play!
Anyway, the captain had let them continue to play their roles well, so what was there to hesitate about?
“Hmph! Of course! It’s also very sexy! I’m afraid you’ll get a nosebleed!”
…
“What do we do?”
Harold was still sitting in the hall. Just as Locke had said, he was a miser! The thought of the 20 billion made his heart itch!
After thinking for a long time, Sphinx seemed to have made a decision in his heart. He stood up and said, “Let’s go see the president! We must get the 20 billion!”

A Prose of Years
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history. While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity. While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian. All they found was death. But death has other plans for Evert. Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, he won't let the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance. [Other tags: First Person POV, Hard Magic, Faulty Memory] Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was. Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated. Note: If you came here from Candlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

The Weaver's Burden (HIATUS)
Weavers... this lot has been synonymous with freaks at best, and devil worshipers at worst, since they were first found. Thankfully, they make up a negligible number of people, but they can still be incredibly dangerous. Oftentimes, they wind up killing themselves or others when their ability to perform magic begins to manifest, acting as a sort of natural culling process for weavers. However, this was well before the Republic of Sidia realized that the ability to manipulate reality can be reigned in, controlled. So if you had the chance to turn something dangerous into a weapon, why wouldn't you? This is what fate awaits a young man named Emmet. After his weaving manifests and blood is on his hands, he is given a choice: the gallows, or the Esphell Monastery. What awaits Emmet at the monastery? What is this magic, and how can he control it? What happens to weaver's once they are properly trained? And most importantly, will he survive long enough to have these questions answered?

Dear Spellbook (Rewrite)
Live. Study. Repeat. Tal never saw himself as an adventurer, but the call to adventure never much cared for his opinion. Despite his best efforts, his search for answers on the murder of his parents ever draws him into danger. Accompanied by a group of seasoned warriors, thus far Tal has gotten by on his own meager magical talents, but when one day he wakes up to find himself back in his bed of the night before, he is faced with a challenge he must conquer alone. What to expect: This story was born of an attempt to create in world lore reasons for many of the mechanics and tropes of D&D, but you do not need to know of them to enjoy the story. It's a single POV time loop story with slow paced progression fantasy elements. The story is not one of fast-paced power ups and non-stop action, but as it progresses, the action picks up. There is a lot of magic system exploration on a system built to unify the diverse magic of D&D into one cohesive magic system. The setting is an original world with familiar races and monsters but with new unique origins and motivations. Book 1 is complete. Book 2 is complete and coming out M-W-F.
