Chapter 444: 444
Who do you think you are belittling?
Some of the Heavenly Immortals were upset inwardly . Even so, when they remembered the Thunderflame Sword Qi that seemed to overflowed across the world just now…
They did not even dare to say a word .
On the other hand, Lü Dongbin and the other peak Golden Immortals all traded glances, a look of joy showing in their eyes .
Iron Crutch Li stepped forward, laughing . “In truth, the greatest gap between us and the Hundred Races are actually our peak combat forces . However, now that you are with us, Brother Jiang He, we would have a greater confidence in defending our homeworld against their legion’s assault!”
“That’s right! We don’t have to fear the Hundred Races with Brother Jiang He!”
Once another Golden Immortal showered his praise, the other Golden Immortals all echoed .
Regardless of the truth of whether Jiang He had cultivated immortal arts for less than a year and could turn the tables against Golden Immortals as a True Immortal, right now, he had at least shown that his power was overwhelming and acknowledged by everyone present .
In fact, some Golden Immortals who were unhappy with Jiang He laying waste to the Unbounded Demon Sect, the Blood Demon Sect, and the Penglai Sect had completely forgotten about it .
After all, which was more important—dead Golden Immortals or living Golden Immortals?
Moreover, Jiang He’s nonchalant display of ability did not lose out at all to the likes of stronger Golden Immortals such as Lü Dongbin . As such, who would provoke Jiang He over a bunch of dead people?
Hence, echoes of flattery resounded around Jiang He’s ears .
Behind him, the Ten Thousand Swords Daoist appeared perplexed .
There was no need to fear the Hundred Races with Jiang He around?
Well, yes .
That indeed seemed to be the case .
After all, the Hundred Races Alliance had collapsed entirely .
Jiang He alone had killed untold ranks of their Golden Immortals, True Immortals, and Heavenly Immortals, and even the stronger individuals such as the White Sky God King and Modolo had to run for their lives… naturally, there was no need fear the Hundred Races .
‘But these people don’t know that, do they?’
‘I wonder what the looks on their faces would be like when they finally learn that Mister Jiang had routed the Alliance all by himself?’ The Ten Thousand Swords Daoist looked around while quietly wondering to himself .

Jiang He, however, appeared taken aback .
He frowned, rage showing between his brows as he seethed through clenched teeth, “Did the Alliance started trouble again?”
“Damn it!”
“Can’t they afford me a few days of peace?”
“You don’t have to worry about that, Mister Jiang .
Lü Dongbin smiled . “Though the number of elites on our side who returned is less than the Alliance’s, but the superior beings had left some backup measures on this planet . With the Star Map and those backup measures, defending our homeworld would not be an issue . ”
“Defend?”
Jiang He shook his head and replied, “Elder, it is a bad decision to defend the planet . The war would never end if you don’t beat fear into the Hundred Races . ”
Defend, my foot!
I had already slain so many Alliance champions that I thought it would have drained them dry and kept them away from Earth for some time… but they returned just a few days later .
There was a fierce look flashing through Jiang He’s eyes as he laughed coldly, “From my perspective, it is better to attack first instead of defending, and leave not a single Alliance legionnaire . It would be best if we could wipe out some of their lesser races, and the Alliance would naturally fall apart then and remove any potential future threats . ”
Lü Dongbin smiled bitterly at that . “You might not know this, Brother Jiang He… our forces are much weaker compared to the Alliance . We would have a chance to defend the homeworld if we rely on the Star Map and the backup measures left by the superior beings, but if we attack…”
He thought about it, and then said seriously, “Our defeat would be assured!”
Jiang He did a double take and said, “Wasn’t it said that Grand Luo and demi-Saints are not to fight in the war between worlds?’
“That is true, but the Alliance boasts the likes of the White Sky God King of the God Race and Modolo of the Demon Race . Those two may not be Grand Luo, but their combat ability could definitely match one, and it is only if we Eight Immortals combine our powers that we might prove an equal match against them… but even if that happens, we could only hope for victory if our own Golden Immortals could fend off up to three or five other Golden Immortals on their own . ”

Lü Dongbin appeared somber as he spoke gravely, “The Hundred Races may not actually be a hundred races, but there were at least seventy of them . Even a lesser race like the Sky Demons only had a single Sky Demon Ancestor and several Grand Luo, while they had over a hundred Golden Immortals, which means redirecting a handful of them would not prove difficult… and once the legion of the Alliance had gathered, we would have to face at least two hundred Golden Immortals . ”
Jiang He searched his memory .
When he attacked, did the alliance had a hundred-twentyish or a hundred-thirtyish Golden Immortals again?
Most importantly, there were still over a dozen other races who had yet to gather .
Most importantly, there were still a dozen races who had yet to gather at the time .
Counting in that measure…
Two hundred was indeed the correct number .
After he had killed a whole bunch of them, there was at least a whole chunk of them who had managed to escape .
Moreover, if there were actually more than two hundred Golden Immortals and they cast a combined array or something, they just might be able to restrain or kill Jiang He .
“No!”
Jiang He suddenly said . “Elder Lü, after their last defeat, the Hundred Races Alliance must have some sort of confidence if they were to return once more… they might send more Golden Immortals, or their superior beings would bestow various premium-grade acquired soul treasures or even innate paragon treasures to fight me . ”
Anxiety filled Jiang He’s face .
However, the truth was that Lü Dongbin and the other Golden Immortals were not aware that Jiang He had routed the legion of the Alliance and blown up the Black Demon Star .
Likewise, Jiang He did not know that Lü Dongbin and the other Golden Immortals were not aware of his victory… and he was under the impression that they knew .
He even thought that the legion of the Alliance had risen again .
Once he thought about several hundred Golden Immortals casting a grand array and wielding paragon treasures against him, he could not help inhaling sharply and feeling a headache .
“Gasp!”
“I would have no way to protect myself if I really was surrounded by hundreds of Golden Immortals wielding paragon treasures, and the only thing I could do is run as fast as I could…” Jiang He sighed emotionally .
His words, however, left Lü Dongbin and the other Golden Immortals stunned .
The Alliance being routed?
Was that referring to the battle over two thousand years ago?
Lü Dongbin flashed a bitter smile then . “You may not know this, Brother Jiang He, but strictly speaking… that battle all those years ago ended as a total defeat for our homeworld . The Six Saints and the many superior beings had not left any backup measures which the commoners’ emperor at the time used and forged the twelve Bronze Men to seal the Dao on the planet, just as the other superior beings had used the Star Map to seal the space around the homeworld . That in turn meant that the alien races who entered our homeworld would be greatly suppressed if they did so, and only then was the legion of the Alliance forced to withdraw . ”
“Therefore, our homeworld was not really victorious in that battle . ”
Many immortals present now had lived through those days .
It was humiliation to them .
Indeed, there were tragic looks on the immortals’ faces once Lü Dongbin mentioned those days, while Jiang He explained, “Elder Lü, fellow brothers, let bygones be bygones… moreover, when I was talking about the legion’s defeat, I was not referring to the battle more than two thousand years ago . I’m just twenty-five this year—how am I supposed to know of what had happened all those years ago?”
“What I am speaking of happened just days ago . ”
“Days ago?
Lü Dongbin’s gaze twitched, and the other immortals all turned toward Jiang He .
They remembered then . The True Habitant of Taixu did mention it…
Jiang He had gone off to outer space alone to attack the Hundred Races Alliance, and the commoner martial artist named Wang Hou or whatnot had gone with the Ten Thousand Swords Daoist to help him?
Noticing Lü Dongbin’s reaction, it was now Jiang He’s turn to be surprised and he exclaimed uncertainly, “Don’t you know, Elder Lü? I had gone to the Black Demon Star just days ago…”

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend
