《Genius Detective》Chapter 206: Revenge for the Brother

Seeing the police coming, the young man seemed even more panicked. He pushed past the crowd and tried to get away. Chen Shi put his hand on his shoulder and asked, “Where are you going?”
“To the restroom!”
“Go through the security check first. You can go after you finish.”
“You can control the sky and the earth, but you can’t control farts and shits. You even want to control when I go to the bathroom? Are there even any human rights?!” The young man stared them down.
A sudden “ting” sound made the guy shocked. He looked down and saw that a metal detector was touching his stomach. It was Peng Sijue who was holding the metal detector. This was the one he had borrowed earlier.
Chen Shi sneered. “What's hidden on your body? Take off your coat.”
The young man looked pale as his lips trembled in silence.
They took him aside. Under Chen Shi's urging, he had to take off his jacket. Peng Sijue checked with the metal detector again. When it passed his abdomen, the noise sounded off again.
“Please take off your sweater as well.”
The man bit his lip and took off his sweater. When Peng Sijue was ready to do the test again, he reached out and held Peng Sijue’s wrist. He begged, “Give me some dignity. I confess! I did it!”
“What's your name?”
“Li Weiting!”
Chen Shi glanced at the passenger list. He had evaded questioning twice. What a clever boy!
“Let's talk somewhere!”
Everyone went to a vacant Weierpi Lounge[1] where it was possible to see the flow of people boarding their planes. Li Weiting looked down with a sigh. “I thought I could follow them on the plane.”
Opposite of him sat Lin Qiupu and Chen Shi while the others were waiting outside.
Lin Qiupu questioned, “You killed the person?”
Li Weiting lowered his head and nodded.
“Why?”
“Maybe it was God’s will!”
“Then you sitting here is God’s will as well. Don’t talk around the point!”
“I know that person. He was the one who killed my brother. A few years ago, my brother bought insurance from his company. Later, my brother found out that he had cancer, but the insurance company refused to pay by using several excuses. When my brother was at the hospital, the guy playing around with the fine print and making excuses was that old bastard! I was so angry that I hit him with an ashtray. Who would have thought that due to this impulsive action, we’d lose the case in court? My brother didn’t get a cent of compensation…”

“Later, my brother committed suicide out of despair, leaving my sister-in-law and children behind. My sister-in-law didn't even have a job and owed a lot of debts. She could only go out to do odd jobs.”
“I would often go to Jinan to support them. I didn't expect to encounter this old animal on the plane this time! Look at the watch he wears, look at the mobile phone he uses, and the tens of millions he talked about over the phone! These were all in exchange for the blood of countless people like my brother! I heard my brother's voice in my mind that told me to kill the old man and take revenge for him, so I…”
“How did you come up with this ingenious way?” Chen Shi took out his knife folded using foil.
“How did I come up with it?” Li Weiting sneered. “My brother committed suicide like that. He suffered in the intensive care unit and didn't want to burden the family, so he used the foil from the meal he received at lunch and folded it into a knife to cut his throat.”
“Shouldn’t it be ‘pierce’ the throat instead?!”
“Yes. When I stabbed the 'knife' into the throat of the old animal, he didn't even bark a single time. I don’t regret killing him. This is retribution. Even if I didn't do it, one day, there would be others out there who would do it!”
“Do you still think that you carried out God’s will?” Lin Qiupu couldn't listen anymore.
Chen Shi cared more about the case and asked, “The weapon is in your stomach?”
“Yes!” Li Weiting acknowledged. “I thought that even if a body was found on the plane, I would be able to go to Jinan before the case was investigated. I didn't expect to land halfway. I couldn't get rid of the weapon on the plane so I turned it into a ball and swallowed it… How did you know? Did someone see me?”
“No one saw it. Do you understand reasoning?” Chen Shi asked.
Li Weiting looked at Chen Shi in surprise. “You are amazing. I admire you! I admire that!”
“I need to ask you about a little detail. Did you swap your trash bag with someone else?”
“Yes! I swapped it with the people next to me. When you called people for questioning, I felt fortunate that the police didn’t notice me… Sure enough, I was too naïve. I didn’t expect that you had a back-up plan.”

Lin Qiupu and Chen Shi exchanged glances. It seemed that the truth was out.
Chen Shi asked, “Is there anything else you want to say?”
“Again, I don't regret it, but... After I go to prison, can you sell my house and give all my savings to my sister-in-law and nephew?”
“You are very kind. Rest assured, we will tell the Supreme People’s Procuratorate who will take over this case.”
“Thank you! Thank you all!” Li Weiting had tears welling up in his eyes.
Lin Qiupu brought the handcuffed suspect out and handed him to the captain of the first team. At this time, just before three o'clock, the plane was taking-off and passing by slowly on the other side of the window.
“We broke the record!” Lin Qiupu smiled in relief.
“It’s because your leadership was good,” Chen Shi modestly said.
After the person was taken away, Old Geng was very excited. He held up Lin Qiupu's hands and said, “The second team is truly amazing. Six hours to capture the murderer. No wonder the chief left this case to you.”
“It's not my credit!” Lin Qiupu glanced at Chen Shi, but Chen Shi shook his head slightly. He didn't want to attract attention, so Lin Qiupu rephrased, “It's everyone's joint effort.”
“Little Lin, I owe you one. If you need help next time, just let me know!”
“You're very welcome!”
The case closed and everyone became very relaxed. Xu Xiaodong asked, “Captain, the case has been solved. Can we get off work early to relax?”
“It's not time yet. Go back to work!”
Lots of complaints and sighs could be heard. Lin Qiupu beckoned to Chen Shi. “Dongxue fainted today. Let’s just say she’ll need sick leave. Send her back to rest early and tell her not to stay up so late anymore.”
“Why don't you do it yourself?”
“I... I’ll pay your fare!”
“Double the price!”
“Robbery while there’s a fire[2]?!”
While others were still working hard with bitter smiles, Lin Dongxue had already returned to Chen Shi's car and was looking at the warm sun outside the window. Lin Dongxue said, “I suddenly remembered that tomorrow is the weekend. Hahaha, I can sleep in!”
“Officer Little Lin, shall I buy you some supplements?”
Lin Dongxue’s face flushed red. “I can buy it myself! By the way, it's rare that I have a day off. I’ll go and find a real estate agency to get a place for myself.”
“Forget about it today. You need a good rest. I'll accompany you tomorrow and help you move the day after tomorrow!”
Lin Dongxue thought about it and was defeated by laziness again. “Will do!”
Lin Dongxue slept until 9:00 the next day. When she got up, she smelled a fragrant scent. Chen Shi and Tao Yueyue were playing around with a newly purchased soy milk machine in the living room. The smell of red date and soy milk filled the room.
Lin Dongxue was so moved that her heart fluttered about. “You... Did you buy this especially for me?”
“Don’t think too much. I just want to drink soy milk!”
“You’re not speaking what’s in your heart!” Lin Dongxue wanted to laugh. After enjoying the sweet red date soy milk, she resolutely said, “I will go to the real estate agencies and find a house today. Then, I’ll try to move tomorrow... This time I can do it!”
Tao Yueyue asked, “Sister Lin, why are you always so intent on moving? Isn't it nice living here?”
“Maybe it's her self-consolation so that she can live here with a peace of mind!” Chen Shi hit the nail on the head.
“You… The things you say are so awful that it attracts a beating!” Lin Dongxue said to Tao Yueyue, “I don't have that kind of relationship with your Uncle Chen. I always sleep here and it wouldn’t be good if it was spread around... You’ll understand when you grow up.”
Tao Yueyue poked out her tongue. “I don't need to grow up to understand that. Then you might as well develop that kind of relationship with him.”
Lin Dongxue's face turned red, but Chen Shi reacted more violently. He sprayed out soy milk and wiped it with paper while saying, “Stop talking nonsense, child!”

Grimm Tales: A RWBY Story
Two years after losing everything, two sisters will try to rebuild the lives they one had, as well as mend the heartache left behind through their connection with the many strange cast of characters they meet, and the many strange story's they're caught up in. Grimm Tales is a RWBY fan fiction I wrote and illustrated from 2014 through 2016. Keep that in mind when experiencing the story and the art within it. Also keep in mind that this story is technically unfinished. I put this aside in October of 2016 after completing what you can call the "first season" of what was going to be a multipart series. Even though the entire story remains unfinished, things do end in a somewhat satisfactory manner.

Incursions
This blurb concerns Incursions book 1: Incarceration. If you could buy superhuman abilities, but they might kill you—or worse—would you do it? Ten years ago, in a world not so different from our own, people with powerful abilities appeared. The new powers were dangerous, dangerous to acquire—dangerous to have—dangerous to wield. World governments raced to find and eradicate the abilities and those who possess them while using the media to rule by fear. Whereas corporations sought to exploit the abilities for profit. Raz Owens was living the dream - a rising star at a job he enjoys, a girlfriend he loves, but it all comes crashing down when Raz disregards his late father's advice. He is pulled into a chaotic underworld of clandestine labs, shadow organizations, and super-powered criminals. Used as a human test subject in a place where few survive the day, he must last long enough to escape. His only advantage? A power that seems nearly useless—a heads-up display. Contains: monsters, violence, death, dismemberment, gamelit, superpowers, superpower consequences, good guys, bad guys, good guys who might be bad guys, bad guys who think they are good guys, good guys that might go bad, bad guys that might turn good, guns for hire, competence, incompetence, continence, incontinence, conspiracies, and some of what I just said wasn't true. This story is written in third person limited POV. That means you can expect to know many of the thoughts and inner dialog of one character, and only see the actions of other characters. This POV does include scenes without the main character, and thus the reader can and will know things the main character does not. Further, this means characters act on what they know, which is almost always less than the reader knows. Something else to know. These books do not hold your hand. If you're reading it and thinking "Gosh, why aren't 'they' doing some 'obvious' thing." Bad news. You probably missed something that explains exactly that. If you're seeking a light read that doesn't ask much of you as the reader, you're invited and very welcome to come on in, but this might not be the story for you.

I hope the internet doesn't expect novel level content from me. I have seen what others on the internet, and even more so this website, can produce and aspire to reach their level. I have no Idea what will come of this, but it should at least be a fun experience for all involve. The writing improves gradually as the chapters go on. I invariably learn some stuff after writing a bunch, finding what works and what doesn't. I definately need to work on paceing and dialouge and flow. Those are the three main goals for now. **Chapter lengths float around the 2300 to 2500 word range as of current chapter Thank you and happy reading.
