《Tales of Demons & Gods》Chapter 493 - Diverting Troubles

“There’s no suspense if we’re fighting with our strength, so what do you think we should do instead?” The old man raised his brow.
“The Deity Rank is above the Martial Ancestor Realm, and upon reaching the Deity Realm, you can grasp a law. So first, we must find out what law does Emperor Kong Ming wields.” Nie Li smiled.
“You know what law does he wields?” The old man’s heart became alerted.
“He wields one of the strongest laws in the world, Life and Death!” Nie Li replied.
“How do you know about that?” The old man’s eyes flickered upon hearing Nie Li’s words.
“Those who wield life and death will view it as a game. Letting his disciples kill each other before taking their strength away. This is one of the rules of life and death.” Nie Li explained.
“Then how can we break it?” The old man asked as he had rage burning in his eyes.
“If there’s an opportunity, you will definitely have your chance to fight with Emperor Kong Ming, but definitely not now.” Nie Li replied. “If you want to defeat Emperor Kong Ming, you can only find another method. At the very least, something that can be comparable to the Law of Life and Death if you want to defeat him.”
“A comparable law?” The old man locked his brows together.
“That’s right. There are only a few other laws comparable to Life and Death, such as Time and Space, Light, and Darkness.” Nie Li went on with his explanation. “If you’re only cultivating the cultivation technique given to you by Emperor Kong Ming, it’s impossible for you to defeat him.
“Then how should I find those laws?” The old man asked.
“Senior, do you know about the Draconic Ruins Realm?” Nie Li asked.
“I do, I’ve gone there before.” The old man replied. “But I came back after finding Emperor Kong Ming’s legacy.”

“Then have you visited the Ancestral Demonic Saint Land?” Nie Li asked once more.
“Never.” The old man shook his head.
“In the Draconic Ruins Realm, the passage towards the Ancestral God Land and Ancestral Demonic Saint Land only opens every ten thousand years, and it will soon open up.” Nie Li explained. “Why don’t you make a trip to the Draconic Ruins Realm and try searching? If you’re able to get into the Ancestral Demonic Saint Land and defeat the Heavenly Demon there, you will be able to obtain a law.”
“As for the law that you can obtain, it will be fully dependent on you.” Nie Li went on.
“You sure you’re not lying to me?” The old man’s eyes flickered.
“I dare not lie to Senior.” Nie Li replied.
The old man suddenly converged a seal with his hand before sending it into Nie Li’s body. As Nie Li issued a groan, he took several steps back.
“Nie Li, how are you feeling?” Ye Ziyun and Xiao Ning’er immediately came up to support Nie Li.
“I’m fine.” Nie Li shook his head.
Looking at the old man, Nie Li spoke out, “Senior only put the Myriad Miles Tracking Curse in my.”
“Not bad.” The old man praised. “You actually know about the Myriad Miles Tracking Curse.”
“I naturally recognize it.” Nie Li smiled. “Senior, you don’t have to worry that I will run away. I will also be searching for the traces of the other laws. Otherwise, even if I do not die in your hands, I will still die in the hands of Emperor Kong Ming.”
“Brat, since you know about the Myriad Miles Tracking Curse, you should know how powerful it is.” The old man spoke coldly and continued, “If I find out that you’re lying to me, you’ll definitely know the consequences when I come looking for you.”

“I don’t dare to lie to you, and I hope that we can work together to bring down Emperor Kong Ming.” Nie Li replied with sincere.
“Alright, I’ll believe you this once. I’ll head to the Draconic Ruins Realm now and see how I can enter the Ancestral Demonic Saint Land.” The old man replied.
Nie Li smiled, “I hope that it will be a smooth journey for you. The next time when you’re back, I will definitely receive you with tea.”
“Brat… I’ll leave you alive for now. But if I find out that you’re lying to me…” The old man patted on Nie Li’s shoulder, shrouding Nie Li in his killing intent.
In a split second, Nie Li could sense the chill down his spine.
As the old man sneered, he turned into a beam and disappeared into the horizon.
“Quick, take a look at Duan Jian.” Nie Li held onto his chest.
As Du Ze and Lu Piao went to take a look at Duan Jian, feeding him elixirs at the same time, Duan Jian issued a groan as he gradually regained his consciousness.
“Duan Jian, how are you feeling?” Nie Li asked in a concerned tone.
“I’m fine, and I’m sorry to have caused you trouble, Master.” Duan Jian spoke with great difficulty.
“Rest well. If we do meet again, it won’t end so easily.” Nie Li’s eyes turned cold. “Since he dares to touch my men, I will definitely make him pay the price.”
“He’s simply too powerful! He’s even stronger than those Martial Ancestor Realm powerhouses in the divine sects.” Duan Jian coughed out a mouthful of blood.
“Have you taken your revenge?” Nie Li looked at Duan Jian.
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to take revenge for my parents, Master.” Duan Jian’s eyes flickered with tears.
“Take revenge if you have any grudges. You’ve taken revenge for the past grudges, and we will deal with today’s grudges in the future.” Nie Li nodded his head. “Rest well. Next time, don’t lose so badly.”
“Yes!” Duan Jian spoke solemnly as he was filled with determination.
“Nie Li, did you really tell that old man the method to obtain law?” Lu Piao couldn’t help feeling concerned and asked, “What should we do if he manages to obtain it? Won’t he become harder to deal with?”
“I did tell him the method to obtain the power of law. That old man is our enemy, and so are those from the Ancestral Demonic Saint Land. Let the two of them fight among each other then.” Nie Li smiled. “If the two of them become heavily injured, then we can benefit as the third party.”
“That makes sense.” Lu Piao nodded his head after a brief ponder.
“Emperor Kong Ming wields the Law of Life and Death, and I wonder what kind of law is that?” Ye Ziyun asked.
“Haha.” Nie Li smiled as he continued, “I’m not sure myself if Emperor Kong Ming truly wields the Law of Life and Death. I only make it up on the spot.”
“Make it up?” Ye Ziyun was stunned when she heard Nie Li.
“I’ve never seen Emperor Kong Ming in person, so how will I know what law does he wield?” Nie Li replied. “I only wanted to scare that old man. Otherwise, he would’ve made his move.”
“Really… you can even escape death with your mouth alone...” Ye Ziyun couldn’t help smiling.
“Well, I can’t help it. The world is cruel, and an honest person will only die faster.” Nie Li sighed. “Actually, I’m also feeling pretty helpless. I’m actually an honest person, just that I’m occasionally cunning.”
Upon hearing Nie Li’s words, Xiao Ning’er and Ye Ziyun smiled bitterly. Nie Li wasn’t just occasionally cunning, but what he said did make sense as well.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
