《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 873 - Professional Sham Marriage

“Let me go!” Lu Yunchuan struggled violently.
Su Tao applied pressure on an acupoint on Lu Yinchuan’s forehead, allowing Lu Yunchuan to calm down. Putting Lu Yunchuan on his shoulder, Su Tao carried him back to the hospital bed. Su Tao then turned to Su Mu and Ni Jingqiu, “It makes no sense for him to do something so extreme under normal circumstances. It’s mainly because he had taken too much atropine. He became too emotionally stimulated and lost control of his rationale.”
The vast majority wouldn’t do something so extreme under normal circumstances. Lu Yunchuan might not have high EQ, but he didn’t have autism. The reason why he wanted to commit suicide was mainly that he was too emotionally stimulated.
So by applying pressure on his acupoint, Su Tao allowed him to calm down. After Lu Yunchuan managed to calm down, Su Tao handed a cup of water over.
After Lu Yunchuan calmed down, Ni Jingqiu asked, “Why are you so stupid into trying to commit suicide?”
“Ms. Ni, I’m sorry. I’ve let both you and the company down!” Lu Yunchuan said, plagued with sorrow. “My wife, Qu Wanwan, wants to divorce me. She wants me to transfer ¥5,000,000 to her by today. I have already given most of my money to her, so how can I gather so much?”
“Divorce is voluntary. Did you do anything wrong? Or is she threatening you with anything?” Ni Jingqiu was baffled.
“I wasn’t paying attention when I was working at home previously. I inserted a USB flash drive that contains a large number of confidential company documents on my computer. But I never expected that she would make a copy of those documents. She’s now threatening me to give her ¥5,000,000, or she will hand those documents to our competitor.” Lu Yunchuan grabbed his hair emotionally. “Why is she like this?! She’s simply driving me insane!”
There was a hint of concern in Ni Jingqiu’s eyes. Lu Yunchuan was her confidante, and he had many confidential documents. If those were leaks, it would spell unpredictable consequences.
Newlight Media was a listed company, and they had some shady actions in getting listed. If those were revealed, it would affect the company significantly.
Su Tao could tell from Ni Jingqiu’s eyes that this matter no longer concerned Lu Yunchuan’s life and death, but the future development of Ni Jingqiu’s company as well. Although the Ni Family could suppress this matter quickly, it would still cost unimaginable prices.
“Don’t worry about it. We’re not at the dead-end yet.” Ni Jingqiu was somewhat disappointed in Lu Yunchuan’s negligence, but he had been a loyal and reliable confidante by her side. Not to mention, he was set up.

Su Tao nodded his head and began analyzing this matter. Lu Yunchuan wanted to commit suicide because he was being forced to a dead-end by his wife and his guilt for the company. The latter might hold a larger portion. He did not want his family affairs to affect the company, so he chose to commit suicide.
“Didn’t you say that you’re scheduled to meet tomorrow? Then tell her that you’ll transfer the money to her and have her return you the USB flash drive on the spot. Furthermore, she must have no backup copy.” Su Tao spoke out in a deep voice. “We’ll wait for an opportunity. I believe that she still has no idea that you have already told us about this matter. She must still be under the impression that she can fully control you.”
Lu Yunchuan nodded his head helplessly. He was baffled, having no idea how this incident developed in this manner.
When he first met Qu Wanwan, he was utterly captivated by her. In their second meeting, she told him that she had a good impression of him, and she’s willing to understand him further. After the two of them confirmed their relationship, Qu Wanwan tactfully expressed that she was willing to bear his child. This was how Lu Yunchuan fell for her sweet words so easily and announced their marriage in a month.
But after Qu Wanwan discovered that Lu Yunchuan had lost his worth, she didn’t forget trying to get another sum off him, blackmailing him by exposing confidential company information.
Now that something like this had taken place, there was no way they could allow Lu Yunchuan to stay in the ward alone. Ni Jingqiu informed Su Mu to take care of Lu Yunchuan, allowing them to nurture their feelings.
When they left the room, Su Tao smiled upon seeing Ni Jingqiu yawning, “Are you regretting now?”
“What do you mean?” Ni Jingqiu swept a glance at Su Tao.
“Because you feel that if there’s no rule that forbids employees from having relationships in the company, the two of them might already be together. Furthermore, today’s tragedy won’t take place.” Su Tao smiled.
“Can you stop being so direct? That’s not cute at all!” Ni Jingqiu exclaimed at how well Su Tao understood her. That thought did emerge in her heart. “How do you think we should deal with this matter? Logically speaking, Qu Wanwan is committing fraud, extortion, and blackmail. Should we call the police?”
Su Tao stared at the dark night. His expression suddenly became solemn, and replied, “I don’t think it’s that simple. There’s no way Qu Wanwan can do something like this by herself. She must have a group. Even if we manage to catch Qu Wanwan, we can’t guarantee that the group won’t leak the documents. Otherwise, your company will be suffering a great loss.”

Glancing at Su Tao complicatedly, Ni Jingqiu sighed, “For some reason, there’s always a chill down my spine when I see you in this state. Because you’re too shrewd, and you’re not cute at all.”
“Why don’t I tell you a joke then? Perhaps it might change your impression about me.” Su Tao smiled.
“Sure. Go ahead!” Ni Jingqiu looked at Su Tao.
“A lad came to me to have his illness treated. He said that he would excrete every day at 8 a.m. without exception. I told him that it was good to have the waste removed from your system early in the morning for my first reaction. But he told me that he only wakes up at 9 a.m. daily.” Su Tao looked at Ni Jingqiu.
Ni Jingqiu fall into a deep ponder before shaking his head, “I don’t understand. What’s so funny about that?”
Su Tao was speechless. Was he too deep about it? Wasn’t he saying that the patient would crap in his pants every day in his dream?
As a storyteller, Su Tao couldn’t stand having his joke treated as a lame joke. He continued, “Let me tell you another one then. Old Wang was walking on the street and met an old flame, Ah Hua. Ah Hua was still as shy as in the past. The two sat down and grabbed some tea. As they chatted, they discovered that the feelings they had for each other were still there. In the end, they left for a hotel together. Upon going into the room, Ah Hua began to shower. When she came out and saw Old Wang putting on a condom, she asked, ‘Old Wang, is there a need for that? Can we even get pregnant at our age?’ Old Wang then replied, ‘That’s not it. I’m just afraid that it might get rheumatism!’”
In the end, Ni Jingqiu couldn’t contain her laughter and raised her thumbs, “You win! You filthy Su!”
“You need to learn how to relax in life. What’s the point of being so tense all the time?” Su Tao shrugged. He was comforting Ni Jingqiu. He knew that Ni Jingqiu must be feeling troubled right now.
Su Tao’s talent in making people laugh wasn’t any inferior compared to his medical skills.
“If it goes according to my guesses, Lu Yunchuan’s wife must be a professional in sham marriages. She must be specialized in conning men’s money by marriage. They usually have a group behind them. They’re cunning, and they know how to make a backup plan. Not only must we find your company’s documents, but we must also get rid of this group to prevent others from being harmed by them.” Su Tao smiled.
“I can’t imagine that someone can actually go against their conscience for money.” Ni Jingqiu smiled bitterly.
Su Tao sighed, “There are all sorts of people in the world. In their world, this is the norm for them.”
“What’s your plan?” Ni Jingqiu asked with a grave expression. Su Tao could tell that she was furious.
“We’ve already scheduled to meet tomorrow.” Su Tao held onto his chin. “Let’s take this opportunity to get rid of this entire group.”
Gu Yang was in a bar dancing along with the music. She was together with Ning Yi. He had pretty much recovered from the injuries he suffered from the squash court the other time, but he wasn’t in a good mood. Gu Yang could tell that Ning Yi wasn’t in a good mood and took out an exquisite box from her bag before handing it over, “Here’s a gift for you!”
Ning Yi received the box and looked at it. A smile instantly plastered on his face as he replied, “Why are you so generous today? I love you so much!”
Gu Yang pointed at her cheek, signaling for Ning Yi to give her a kiss.
Ning Yi did as she wanted and smiled, “Oh, right. I have already looked into what you want. Didn’t your friend, Wang Jiajia, told me to find Ni Jingqiu’s flaw? I have a friend whose niece’s husband works in Ni Jingqiu’s company as an executive.”
“Your friend? Is he reliable?” Gu Yang was doubtful. When finding a husband, women had to find someone reliable like Shu Haonan. But for a lover, women had to look for someone full of vigor like Ning Yi. But Gu Yang knew that Ning Yi’s occupation wasn’t only a professional athlete.
With Ning Yi’s profession and appearance, he would package himself to attract older women’s attention.
So sham marriages weren't only limited to the internet, but in real life as well.
The reason why Gu Yang had a close relationship with Ning Yi wasn’t that she wanted to marry him. She only found it fresh and interesting.

Esper: Search for Power
Dan Martin has a good life. He's respected at his job, and enjoys his work. He is close to his family, and they love and support him. With engaging hobbies, relative financial security, and freedom to learn and pursue his interests, Dan is happy. So it's not particularly welcome when he's selected by an inscrutable and seemingly omnipotent System as a test subject. The downsides: All of this is insane and by any rational analysis he's gonna die. The upsides: Super powers, a cure for a physical disability that had limited him, and above all, so very much to learn (for as long as he can avoid dying). I am very much a beginner as an author, and any feedback or suggestions on how to improve would be deeply appreciated. Chapter releases should be daily for the first two weeks and sporadic after that as I use up my buffer. Please consider this work as a rough draft subject to revision and/or retcon. It is not only my first attempt at original story telling, but at world building and RPG style system design. The latter has been very difficult, even drawing on the brilliant work of many RPGs and LitRPGs for inspiration. Thank you to any willing to give a new story and a new writer a try!

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
