《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 863 - Two-Strikes Combo

Yue Zun saw Shao Wentao and Yu Youqing together when he stepped into the room. They were whispering among themselves. When he turned to look at Sun Changle, he could see the latter avoiding his gaze. After he sat down, more National Healers began to enter. All of them had a good relationship with Yue Zun, but they looked indifferent today.
However, Yue Zun wasn’t too bothered by it. He had been in this scene for years. So he wouldn’t get intimidated by something like this. He was just letting the worse hit him. Worse comes to worst; he would just be leaving the National Healer Team. With his status in the medical industry, he could live well, even after losing the National Healer’s title.
When Yu Youqing saw that everyone arrived, he coughed twice and spoke out, “We will be discussing two main things today. Let’s start with the first one. The Ten Best National Healer’s candidate has been endorsed, and we have our preliminary ten candidates. Here’s a document, and everyone can look at it. If you guys think that there’s someone unsuitable, you can mention it here for us to conduct a small discussion before submitting it for re-evaluation.”
Shao Wentao pretended to look at it before passing it down. When Yue Zun received it, he looked through it and made sure Su Tao was on it. The other day when Wei Qun chatted with him, reprimanding him was just an excuse. They were actually discussing the Ten Best National Healers’ candidates. Yue Zun had recommended Su Tao, which Wei Qun accepted Yue Zun’s opinion after some hesitation.
After everyone looked through the list, they began bouncing their thoughts off each other.
“Chief Yu, isn’t it inappropriate for Su Tao to be on the list?” Shao Wentao frowned.
“What’s the problem? This is the ministry’s decision.” Yu Youqing might seem unhappy, but everyone knew that they were both acting. One was playing the good guy and the other playing the bad guy.
“Although Su Tao is outstanding and his ability among the younger generation visible to all, he still lacks seniority. He has just joined the team this year, so aren’t people going to be unhappy if we give him this honor?” Shao Wentao spoke in an impartial tone.
As soon as he finished, someone spoke out with indignance, “We’ve all been in the team for years, and we’ve also worked hard. But why are we never on the list? Su Tao might have made several contributions this year, but we shouldn’t just look at it from those incidents. We have to look at the comprehensive results. I believe that I’ve done well in my duties in the team, and I’m not any worse compared to him.”
The name of the person who spoke was Xia Shang, an ENT specialist. Not only was his fame well-known in the specialist team, but he was also famous in China’s medical industry. He was on the list of fifteen, but Shao Wentao ultimately removed him.

Shao Wentao wasn’t bothered about it back then. But he sighed inwardly, looking at Xia Shang jumping out now. It looks like his unintentional action back then achieved a pretty good result.
Xia Shang made many outstanding contributions the past year. Not only did he help treat the rhinitis of several specialists, but he also participated in the medical assistance to South Africa for half a year. So his contributions weren’t any lower compared to Su Tao. If he had to be graded overall, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to get into the top five.
Xia Shang wasn’t too particularly concerned with fame initially, but he never expected Su Tao to receive it at such a young age. So he felt mistreated and unhappy.
Yue Zun had a pretty good relationship with Xia Shang. But now that interest was involved, he smiled bitterly, “Old Shang, I believe that everyone has seen how hard you worked the past year. I have seen your document submitted to Chief Yu, but even I’m surprised to see your name removed. But don’t target Su Tao for it. He might be new to the team, but his achievements are obvious for us to look at. I believe everyone knows about the Seven Mountains Virus incident. It had cost the country tens of billions. As for your candidacy, I think it can still be discussed, and you have my full support.”
When Shao Wentao heard Su Tao’s words, his face turned dark. Yue Zun was fast to respond, redirecting the question when he saw Xia Shang targeting Su Tao. He was diverting Xia Shang’s attention from Su Tao to why he wasn’t chosen.
Taking a deep glance at Yue Zun, Xia Shang replied, “I disagree with that, Old Yue. I feel despised for Su Tao to be chosen instead of me. Isn’t it the same as telling me that I can’t even compare to a young man who joined the team this year? If that’s the case, then I would resign from the team voluntarily.”
Xia Shang’s response left Yue Zun shocked. But he soon recovered from it. He had a feeling that this was probably rehearsed, and Xia Shang had turned to Shao Wentao’s camp.
Sun Changle felt conflicted when he sat opposite to Yue Zun. Yesterday when he visited Yue Zun’s office, he wanted to swap the batteries and memory card. But to his shock, the pinhole camera was gone. That discovery alone left him drenched in a cold sweat.
He was now deeply concerned about how Yue Zun would handle this matter. But looking at how Xia Shang stood out to make things difficult for Yue Zun, Sun Changle sighed inwardly. Shao Wentao had ultimately still utilized this chess piece. But he had an ill-premonition that this matter today wouldn’t be so easily resolved.

Looking at everyone arguing, Yu Youqing glanced at Xia Shang and spoke out, “Don’t get so emotional. The National Healer Team is an honor and a responsibility at the same time. So how can you say that you want to resign? Do you think that the team is a supermarket where you can come and go as you wish?”
“Chief Yu is right. I have been too impulsive.” Xia Shang sighed. “I’m not greedy for honor here, but I just feel disappointed that some people are impartial, abusing their authority. He’s not even the team leader, and he’s trying to abuse his authority for someone on his side. How can there be a future in this National Healer Team?”
“There’s no need to make indirect accusations here. I was the one who submitted Su Tao into the list. I think we should look into why the ministry did not see your application instead.” Yue Zun replied in a solemn voice.
“You’re doubting Chief Yu and me?” Shao Wentao locked his brows together.
“I just feel that we should make things clear so that Old Xia doesn’t get unhappy. After all, his mood wouldn’t just affect his work efficiency, but it would also affect those around him.” Yue Zun shrugged.
Waving his hand, Yu Youqing replied, “I’ll look into everyone’s opinion on the Ten Best National Healers’ candidacy and send out a response to the ministry. Let’s just end the topic here.”
Yue Zun finally understood why the discussion took place. Chief Wei supported stSu Tao to the Ten Best National Healers, and Yu Youqing wanted to obstruct this matter with his authority. The discussion today was just to create a controversy to force Chief Wei.
As a result, Chief Wei would have to face the immense pressure of everyone being unhappy with Su Tao on the list and some of them even threatened to resign from the team.
This vicious scheme made Yue Zun sigh inwardly. Yu Youqing and Shao Wentao have both racked their minds on how to get Su Tao off the list.
Shao Wentao looked at Yue Zun with a smug. He was feeling happy seeing Yue Zun’s unsightly complexion. At the same time, he thought about Su Tao. Wasn’t Su Tao looking down on them? Then he’ll take the award that Su Tao rightfully deserved from him as a revenge.
Shao Wentao was filled with admiration on how Yu Youqing handled this matter. If he had guessed it correctly, Xia Shang must have received Yu Youqing’s instruction to make things difficult on Su Tao for this matter.
Then again, if he hadn’t taken out Xia Shang’s information, Yu Youqing would still get someone else to stand out and make things difficult for Su Tao. Xia Shang was ultimately just a chess piece.
He could tell from this incident alone that Yu Youqing was still shrewd. Yu Youqing made this incident develop in the direction he wanted without any trace, giving a lesson to Shao Wentao.
Yue Zun smiled bitterly. Yu Youqing was too two-faced. If he was in the political scene instead, he would definitely be an expert. But doing this in the National Healer Team would just defile the organization.
Truth be told, Yu Youqing’s time as the chief had obstructed the National Healer Team from development. Everyone in the National Healer Team was only focused on pandering the leaders. In Yue Zun’s view, the National Healer Team should participate in social medical assistance. Providing healthcare services to the leaders was important, but they should also show concern for society.
“Let’s move on to the next topic.” Yu Youqing waved his hand, indicating that the Ten Best National Healers’ candidacy discussion had come to an end. “Let’s discuss the next National Healer Team’s leader name list. We now have five candidates, which include Shao Wentao, Sun Changle, Xu Mingyao, and Deng Guanghua. All of you here are the foundation of the National Healer Team. Although we have to respect everyone’s opinion, your opinions are also important. Regardless of who takes the position as the next leader, that person will need your support.”
Sun Changle swept a glance at a person in the corner. When that person saw Sun Changle’s gaze, he sighed bitterly, “Chief Yu, I have an anonymous complaint on Yue Zun. So please take a look at it.”
That person who spoke was Du Shangping, who had a good relationship with Yue Zun normally. When everyone heard him speak, they began to whisper among themselves. No one had expected that Du Ping would stand out to report Yue Zun. This made all of them feel baffled.
Yue Zun sneered at this scene. So the previous discussion was just paving the way for this one.
Despite being emotionless, Shao Wentao was rejoicing inwardly. The first discussion sent Su Tao’s application for the Ten Best National Healers’ candidacy down the drain. Although the list was decided by the ministry, they still have to respect the team’s opinion to prevent controversy. After all, none of those specialists were ordinary people.
The second round of the discussion went into Du Shangping, receiving a report on Yue Zun. Yue Zun’s prestige would have reached the rock bottom after this incident. It would make him lose the qualification in the leader election. On the other hand, Shao Wentao would still have his advantage and become the next leader successfully.
The meeting today was a two-strikes combo directed at Yue Zun.

Stories Of Indlu
“… to grow, for opportunity, for adventure, to be free. Join the colony ship Nao Vittoria. Be the first to live amongst the stars.” It was obvious from the literature that the NextStar corporation wanted the young, the adventurous and the brilliant. So why were the super rich fighting over seats? Why were AI’s trying to stow away? Did this signify a premature end to human/AI civilisation? Why had some questions directed to NextStar been aggressively sidelined? Why did the colonist inflight entertainment trial produce fatalities? In fact, why colonists at all? Those and many other questions, however, boiled down to a single central question. Why was the world’s most advanced AI dumped with a hundred year babysitting job for 50 million people speeding towards an uninhabitable planet? It made such little sense. The only sure way to get answers, catch a ride on the Nao Vittoria and play the inflight entertainment game, Pax Domini. I joined, and this is my story. Well, I feature. OK, I’m more of a spectator. Actually, I’m completely irrelevant I was just there. I’m only the storyteller. But what a story to tell. --------- Hi All, Content will be published weekly usually Saturday and typical posts will be 25oo to 4ooo words per post. Though for some reason the Royal Road word count does not include the content of tables so some posts may not appear to meet this criteria. Currently I have written sufficient unedited content to keep this schedule for the next 12 months (half way through the first story arc). My current productivity would indicate that I can maintain this schedule for well into the second story arch. This also allows for the additional content that will be posed exclusively on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/StoriesOfIndlu). This additional content follows minor characters, peripheral events, maps and other content that does not take away from the main story. I would love to accelerate the post schedule but to meet this I need the assistance of more beta readers than I currently have. So please let me know if you are interested. - Andy ©2022 Andy Leauter.
