《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 840 - Starts Attacking

It was just as Su Tao and Xia Yu had analysed. Rangure had already sent someone to bring Zhang Ailian to Beijing. At this moment, Zhang Ailian was being held in a safe house at the outskirts.
This house used to be the love den between Wang Guofeng and Zhang Ailian. Hence, Zhang Ailian had easily gotten used to life here. She led a normal life of waking up at 6 a.m. to feed her son before taking strolling in the market. And Zhang Ailian still had no idea that she was under Rangure’s surveillance.
It was tiring for her to take care of her son alone, but Zhang Ailian wasn’t too down. When Wang Guofeng talked to her in the past, she could tell that he had intentions of marrying her.
Hence, she was waiting for everything to settle down for Wang Guofeng. After which, she would divorce her husband to marry Wang Guofeng.
She did not ask much of Wang Guofeng. She only hoped that he would be responsible for their child. As for his life outside, she wouldn’t dip her fingers in it.
It had been days since Zhang Ailian last contacted Wang Guofeng. However, the man of African descent had explained to her that Wang Guofeng was currently on a business trip abroad. Thus, he would not be able to contact her.
Zhang Ailian would visit the market daily. She had already formed a connection with many owners here, and she would often bargain with them on her purchases. She planned on preparing fish soup today. It was beneficial for promoting lactation. As she was breastfeeding her son right now, she needed the nourishment.
She waited before the shop after making her picks. She was waiting for the owner to butcher the fish. But after she paid for her purchases, she was shocked when she saw that the baby pram was nowhere seen. Her son had gone missing!
But just when she was about to yell out for help, she saw a man with a baseball cap and sunglasses had a finger on his lips. He was signalling for Zhang Ailian not to yell.
Zhang Ailian recovered swiftly after the initial panic. Her son was with that man, and she didn’t dare to yell out. Thus, she could follow him nervously. “Who are you? And give my son back to me!”
She felt threatened by the man before her. Her first thought was the possibility of this man being Wang Guofeng’s enemy.
“I mean no harm. I’m here to save you!” That man was Xia Yu, who had found his way over from Qiongjin City. He lowered his voice, “I have a piece of bad news for you. Wang Guofeng is already dead, and you’re being kept under surveillance. I only took your son on suspicion of the pram bugged.”
“What? How is that possible?!” Zhang Ailian had disbelief in her eyes. Wang Guofeng was dead? Zhang Ailian couldn’t accept that piece of news.
Seeing the disbelief written on Zhang Ailian’s face, Xia Yu retrieved a photo from his phone, “This is Wang Guofeng’s funeral. He was killed two weeks ago. There’s not enough time for me to explain to you about the situation right now. But you’re under surveillance, and you’ll have to listen to me if you want to escape.”

Zhang Ailian was deeply shocked by the revelation. After all, Xia Yu didn’t seem to be lying, not to mention that he even had photos with him as evidence. Furthermore, there weren’t any traces of photoshops on those photos. Could it be that Wang Guofeng is already dead as he claimed? Then how is she going to live her life from now on?
She had already resigned when she was pregnant. She was a full-time housewife now, and she had no concern for money. She knew that Wang Guofeng had a significant salary. Furthermore, even if she had grown old and she could no longer attract Wang Guofeng’s attention, her son was her guarantee that she did not need to worry about money.
“I have to leave right now. Here’s my number, call me if you wish to regain your freedom.” Xia Yu returned the child to Zhang Ailian and lowered his cap before disappearing into the crowd.
Zhang Ailian found a name card in her son’s clothes. There wasn’t any name or introduction on it, only a phone number.
Placing her son back on the baby pram, Zhang Ailian was in a loss. She subconsciously tried to give Wang Guofeng a call, but there was no response from the other side.
She had actually believed in the words of that man who brought her to Beijing. But after listening to Xia Yu’s words, she began to feel something queer about this matter.
After all, it made no sense that Wang Guofeng wasn’t picking up his phone even if he was overseas.
“Hey, you forgot about this!” The owner of the fish stall called out.
Zhang Ailian had actually forgotten about her purchase. As she thanked the boss for his integrity, she returned to her residence with her mind distracted.
She no longer had the mood to cook as she immediately took out her phone and tried searching for Wang Guofeng’s information online.
Her focus was entirely placed on her son recently, and she hadn’t been using her phone much.
She soon found the news that she was looking for online.
“The Medicine Deity Corporation’s Chairman, Wang Guofeng had committed suicide with a death note left behind…”
Zhang Ailian’s mind instantly went blank when she saw the news article.
She still did not want to believe in it. She immediately thought of television dramas. If she was really under surveillance, then this house must be bugged. She pulled the curtains before she started staring at the ceiling and searched.
A short while later, she finally discovered red blinking lights in a remote corner. She was terrified when she saw the lights. Looking at her sleeping child, her heart was overwhelmed by sorrow.
“I have to leave this place! I have to try, even if it’s for our son!” Zhang Ailian began to believe in Xia Yu’s words. She took out the name card from her pocket and sent a message over.
It didn’t take long for her to receive a reply from Xia Yu. “Stay calm. I’ll come and pick you up at 3 a.m. today. Remember not to pack any stuff with you as it will only alarm those people who are watching you.”

Xia Yu’s plan was down to details. After all, 3 a.m. was where the willpower of a human was at the lowest. Thus, it would be more convenient for him to come and save Zhang Ailian at this timing.
Zhang Ailian went along with Xia Yu’s plans. She behaved normally as usual as if nothing had happened.
She received a message precisely at 2.30 a.m. from Xia Yu. “I’m right outside! Come out with the child, and be quick! Don’t hesitate!”
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Ailian took her sleeping son in her embrace as she charged out of the house.
It was a Caucasian man who was watching the surveillance cameras. He couldn’t stop himself from constantly yawning, even after taking two cups of coffee. The caffeine didn’t make him feel any less sleepy.
He had been curious why would his superiors want to keep a woman and child under surveillance. Although it was part of human nature to pry into privacy, he had no interest in Zhang Ailian even if she was naked. After all, her figure had gone out of shape after giving birth.
“What’s she trying to do?” The Caucasian man knitted his brows. He failed to notice that Zhang Ailian was trying to run by opening the doors.
However, he soon figured it out when he saw an off-road vehicle outside the house as Zhang Ailian went into it.
“Get up! She’s running!” The Caucasian man cursed as he yelled at his companion.
The other foreigner was startled awake as he wore his planets immediately and charged out.
However, Xia Yu was well-prepared for any possible situations. When Zhang Ailian came into the car, he stomped down at the accelerator with all his might. As a cloud of black smoke escaped the exhaust pipe, the odd-road vehicle sped away.
Zhang Ailian was still in the breastfeeding phase, so her nightgown was thin. When Xia Yu looked at her through the rear mirror, he suggested, “The weather is cold, and there’s a blanket at the back. You and your child can use it to keep yourselves warm.”
Zhang Ailian was still feeling apprehensive. But she gradually calmed down when she heard the concern in Xia Yu’s tone. In the next second, after she covered herself and her child in the blanket, Xia Yu’s voice was heard, “Sit well!”
They were being tailed by a Grand Cherokee. As the Grand Cherokee’s headlights flashed, the shining brilliance stung Xia Yu’s eyes.
Everyone was just as he had speculated. The other party had tight surveillance on Zhang Ailian, and they had respected swiftly after noticing her escape. However, Xia Yu had already planned the escape route.
Although they were currently in a remote location, everything would change upon reaching the highway. At that time, they would be able to escape from their pursuers.
Stepping on the accelerator as Xia Yu controlled the steering wheel, Zhang Ailian held her mouth as she looked outside the window in fear. She was starting to lose control of her emotions. But thinking about her son in her embrace, she knew that she had to stay composed.
Fortunately, her son was still deeply asleep.
When their pursuers saw that Xia Yu was driving faster, one man stretched his hand out of the window with a pistol and started firing. Aside from the roaring of engine, the echos of gunshots could also be heard in the nightscape.
Xia Yu snorted when he saw this scene. He knew that the pursuers must be criminals, and he came prepared. He controlled the steering wheel to drift the car, successfully dodging the bullets.
“Quick, catch up!” The Caucasian man anxiously urged.
In the end, the foreigner who was driving the Grand Cherokee could only stomp on the accelerator. But in the next second, the off-road vehicle that they were pursuing suddenly went for an emergency brake. The foreigner was terrified out of his wits when the two cars were about to come in contact. He immediately turned the steering wheel to the side, which just happened to be facing a stone gate.
When the vehicle had intimate contact with the stone gate, the bonnet was flipped. The air sac had blown up, and the two of them were still suffering from the shock of the collision.
“You stupid fool!” The Caucasian man scolded. He had a cut on his forehead as blood dripped down his face. He took out his phone and made a call, “Boss, I’m sorry. Someone rescued Zhang Ailian.”
“Got it!” Rangure was startled awake. But a short moment later, she soon recovered from the shock with an icy cold light in her eyes.
She kept Zhang Ailian under surveillance because she was afraid that Wang Guofeng might have left something with her.
Wang Guofeng had been in the Medicine Deity Corporation for a year. So his assets should’ve gone over ¥1,000,000,000. However, all the assets under his name only amounted to ¥100,000,000-200,000,000. It meant that Wang Guofeng must have hidden his other assets, which Rangure suspected that it might be hidden under Zhang Ailian’s name.
“Su Tao’s keen sense has really taken me by surprise. He actually managed to find Zhang Ailian so quickly.” Rangure’s face was dark. She no longer had the mood to continue sleeping as she had to start taking precautions. She could feel the danger slowly approaching her.
Rangure had been placed in the passive position ever since the authorities discovered the underground research facilities. In the end, she had to make Wang Guofeng the scapegoat before fetching Zhang Ailian away. When Su Tao started launching his attacks, Rangure found herself to be in a disadvantageous position.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.
