《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 705 - Finding an excuse to punish someone

Upon arriving at a low-profiled and mysterious building, it was Su Tao’s first visit after becoming a National Healer. The guard here did not know Su Tao, so he was stopped as the guard hollered, “Who are you, and what are you doing here?”
“I’m a National Healer, and I’m here for some matters.” Su Tao replied truthfully.
The guard instantly knitted his brows together. He had spent half of his life on this job, and he had met many leaders and National Healers. All of their ages were above their fifties, and there’s no one like Su Tao.
Locking his brows together, the guard demanded, “Provide your identification or you won't be allowed to enter.”
Su Tao inwardly sighed. He could understand the guard’s thoughts at this moment. But when he went to Japan, he did not bring his National Healer identification out of fear that he might lose it.
Letting out a sigh, Su Tao replied, “I did not bring my identification with me. After all, there wasn’t a rule stating that I have to bring it with me at all times.”
“Then I’m sorry, but you’re not allowed to enter.” The guard remained firm.
At this moment, a black vehicle drove over. When the window wound down, the guard gave a salute to the person sitting in the backseat. When Su Tao glanced at that person, it was a middle-aged man that he had once met during the National Healer Selection. He remembered that the surname of this person was Cao, so he immediately went over and greeted, “Mr. Cao, nice to meet you. I’m Su Tao! I did not bring my identification with me, so can you do me a favor and verify for me?”
However, Cao Menglong only glanced at Su Tao before he snorted and instructed the chauffeur, “Drive!”
Thereafter, he left Su Tao standing awkwardly at his spot.
When the guard saw that Su Tao actually knew Cao Menglong, he initially thought that Su Tao had a great origin. But seeing that Cao Menglong did not pay any attention to Su Tao, he immediately felt that Su Tao was trying to bluff his way through.
Su Tao inwardly sighed. He had never experienced getting blocked out the gates. In the end, he could only helplessly give a call to Yue Zun.
Roughly ten-odd minutes later, Yue Zun ran over and explained to the guard, “He’s a National Healer who joined this year, so there’s no need to stop him from entering in the future.”
The guard naturally knew Yue Zun since this person was a veteran. Seeing that he was talking intimately with Su Tao, the guard was instantly startled since he realised that he had judged a book by it's cover.
Su Tao did not blame the guard since he was just doing his duty, who was following the rules in stopping his entry. However, Su Tao was pissed with Cao Menglong’s attitude, looking so aloof and arrogant.

During the previous century, the plaque was removed for secrecy, but everyone knew that those in this building were formidable figures. Hence, this building was clouded with an air of mystery. But in reality, if someone enters, they would notice that there wasn’t much difference from other offices.
“Most of the National Healers have a normal job, but they will have an office in this building. Newcomers like you won’t have an office, for the time being, so let’s go to my office.” Yue Zun smiled.
“Then, I’ll be troubling you, Martial Uncle.” Su Tao immediately thanked.
After waving his hand towards Su Tao, the two of them came to the third floor. They entered a long hallway after turning left. Yue Zun smiled and pointed at an office on the right. “This is the office of your master, Dou Fanggang. However, he’s not here all that often, so the office is a little messy. My office is just next door.”
After entering Yue Zun’s office, everything here looked old with a bookshelf leaning against the wall, filled with documents.
After brewing a pot of tea, Yue Zun waited for Su Tao to take a sip before he said, “Your trip to Japan has caused a great stir in the organisation. In a moment, the investigation team will ask you questions. Don’t show any emotions and just answer the questions frankly.”
Su Tao knew that Yue Zun was concerned about him so he immediately nodded his head. “I have a clear conscience, so there’s nothing to worry about, Martial Uncle.”
Yue Zun understood Su Tao’s character. Su Tao was a steady person, so he did not nag since he believed that Su Tao knew what to do.
As they drank tea for half an hour, Su Tao told Yue Zun about his trip to Japan. When he mentioned that he was going to set up a medicine factory, Yue Zun praised Su Tao for his thoughts and courage.
Suddenly, the phone rang so Yue Zun answered it, “He’s already here in my office. I’ll bring him over to the conference room in a while.”
Letting out a sigh, Yue Zun hung the call and gave a weak smile towards Su Tao. “Let’s go. Although I believe that those are only rumors, you still have to be investigated.”
After coming to the ninth floor together, they arrived at a small-scaled conference room. There were seven people seated in the room and Yue Zun sat at the last to the right. Sitting in the center was an elderly man, which Su Tao knew that this person was the chief of the organisation. His name was Yu Youqing, and he had a pretty good reputation. Sitting to his right was an unfamiliar man that Su Tao did not recognise.
As for Cao Menglong, he was also seated amongst the seven, coldly staring at Su Tao.

At this moment, Su Tao finally understood the reason why Cao Menglong had ignored him earlier. The latter probably felt that he had a higher standing since Su Tao was being investigated.
Yu Youqing pointed at the simple chair in the middle and said, “Mr. Su, you don’t have to be nervous. We’re just going through the procedures to understand the situation. Please, take a seat. In a while, you just have to tell us the truth.”
Su Tao inwardly sighed since the chair looked more tattered than the chairs that the investigation team were sitting in. This was a tempo that they would be investigating him under. Although Su Tao felt somewhat annoyed, he still calmly sat down in the chair.
“Please explain, why did you treat someone from the Seto Clan?” Cao Menglong questioned sternly as he added, “From the news that we’ve obtained, you obtained a large sum of money. Can you explain the origin of that money?”
Su Tao locked his brows together. Cao Menglong was clearly targeting him. The latter was probably instructed by someone to make things difficult for him. Taking a deep breath, Su Tao patiently explained, “I treated someone of the Seto Clan purely by coincidence. When I was traveling, I noticed that a little boy had sprained his foot. Out of my duty as a physician, I conducted a treatment for that little boy on the spot. I only knew much later that the boy was the heir of the Seto Clan. As for that sum of money, it’s not a bribe, but the treatment fee paid by them to me.”
“Absurd!” Cao Menglong continued to question, “A treatment fee that costs USD$200,000? Do you think that it’s logical?”
“It looks like Mr. Cao has never encountered a patient who’s willing to pay handsomely for treatments. I heard that there are many willing patients in the Wang Family’s Pharmacy who would spend tens of millions, so I don’t think that my treatment fee was that shocking, was it? If it was a poor patient, I would’ve only charged them cheaply. But facing the Seto Clan, it’s reasonable for me to accept that sum of money as my treatment fees.” Su Tao sighed.
Listening to those words, Cao Menglong’s face turned red as he raged, “You really do know how to stick gold on your face, making it sound as if you’re Robin Hood.”
Wearing a smile, Su Tao questioned instead, “I have already made my explanation. Since you guys are claiming that I’ve received bribery, then please provide the evidence on the atrocities that I’ve committed.”
“There’s nothing now, but who knows about the future. We’re National Healers, so our actions and thoughts have to be pure!” Cao Menglong snorted.
“May I ask how impure I am? Isn’t it too ridiculous to claim that my thoughts are dirty just because I’ve treated some foreigners?” Su Tao rebuked.
Not knowing if Cao Menglong wasn’t willing or did not dare to look at Su Tao, he turned to Yu Youqing. “I suggest that someone like him should be kicked out of the organisation to prevent future troubles.”
Locking his brows together, Yu Youqing waved his hand. “Don’t jump to conclusions. We’re here to investigate the situation by listening to Su Tao’s explanation.”
Taking a deep breath, Cao Menglong continued, “I have a piece of information that can prove Su Tao’s suspicion of being a traitor.”
“Oh?” Yu Youqing was briefly stunned, since he was unhappy with Cao Menglong’s accusation.
It was a serious accusation, and if it was proven to be real, Su Tao would not only face the risk of being kicked out from the National Healer Specialist Team, but it might even be pursued.
Retrieving a few documents from his bag, Can Menglong said, “The Princess of the Seto Clan, Kiko, has privately created a social media account, tipping Su Tao’s fan club as a fan. It was to hide a large sum of bribery, so is this also treatment fees?”
When Su Tao heard Cao Menglong’s words, he was somewhat surprised since he never expected that Kiko had done such things.
Seeing that Su Tao had fallen into ponder, Yu Youqing sighed, “Do you have any explanations for this?”
Su Tao sighed as he wore a self-mocking smile. “I’m actually left speechless!”
“See! He has no explanation for himself, and he has admitted to his crime!” Cao Menglong said in excitement.
Standing up all of a sudden, Su Tao sneered, “Mr. Cao, I feel that I can’t communicate with someone like you who doesn’t have any common sense. I have over ten million fans in my fan club, and there would be millions or hundreds of thousands of people donating to the Qihuang Charity Funds’ account. I have fans from South Korea, Japan, and even other countries. So is it a crime that I accept their donations? Wouldn’t I become a spy for multiple countries? You’re simply finding an excuse to punish someone.”
Cao Menglong was stunned. He felt guilty looking at Su Tao’s firm gaze.
Letting out a sigh, Su Tao continued, “I have already made my explanation, and it doesn’t concern me if you guys insist on forcing crime onto me.”
When he finished, he immediately left the conference room.
Yue Zun never expected that Su Tao would lose his rationale and immediately chased after him.
Rejoicing in his heart, Cao Menglong smiled. “See? He’s leaving because he is guilty.”
Sweeping a glance at Cao Menglong, Yu Youqing said, “The truth still needs to be investigated. Dismiss!”

Current release plan is to have part 2 completed, then fully edit up till the end of part 2. I am in the process of editing the earlier content as I complete the updates/re-writes. Apologies for any rough content in the meantime. My primary objective with Keepers of the Neeft is to work on developing content flow and establishing a community of people who enjoy my writing style. I write SF/F and horror as my primary genres, Keepers is actually my 3rd novel length work, but my current project. Updates of new Content will currently be in the form of one larger post on Tuesdays.
