《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 590 - Successful People are Crafty

Entering the room, Yuan Lan looked at Su Tao, who was reading the news with his phone and said, “There’s a development with Andre’s situation.”
“Oh?” Su Tao frowned and sighed, “He’s definitely not someone sent over by Qin Jingyu because he’s too weak, and Qin Jingyu is not stupid.”
For some reason, Yuan Lan felt an urge to laugh when she heard Su Tao’s words. That Andre had indeed overestimated his ability to charge in by himself.
Trying her best to hold back her laughter, she continued, “This matter is somewhat complicated. Andre is involved with a mercenary group, but that organisation refused any connection in this matter. Furthermore, the leader of that mercenary group has something to do with you. He’s the person that you’re looking for in Russia.”
“Wait. What?” Su Tao was dumbfounded by Yuan Lan’s words. Mercenary group? The leader was related to him?
Taking a deep breath, Yuan Lan looked at Su Tao with a complicated gaze before she explained, “The leader of that mercenary group is Yan Sun.”
Instantly, Su Tao figured out what was going on. However, he never expected that Yan Sun would be the leader of a mercenary group.
Giving a meaningful look towards Su Tao, Yuan Lan carried on her explanation, “Andre’s attack on you wasn’t instructed by Yan Sun, but someone else. Although Andre refused to confess the mastermind, we managed to find out that Andre recently received a huge sum of money. If it goes according to our analysis, that is from the mastermind who paid Andre to attack you!”
Nodding his head, Su Tao sighed, “The problem is, have you found out the person who paid him?”
“Kelov!” Yuan Lan replied and continued, “Russia’s authorities have checked Andre’s phone, and they found out that he recently talked to Kelov. Furthermore, through the analysis of surveillance cameras, the two of them have recently met in the outskirts.”
Letting out a sigh, neither Kelov nor Andre were smart planners, which was why there was a flaw in their planning. He never met Yan Sun, so the possibility of Yan Sun ordering an attack on him wasn’t quite plausible. Hence, he deduced that Kelov must have hired someone to assassinate him.
Since this assassination was so clumsily planned, it sounded plausible for Kelov to be the one behind it.
If it was Yan Sun who ordered an attack on him, then the assassin would definitely not be so simple.
“You guys can’t arrest Kelov right now!” Su Tao said after a long pondering with his brows locked.
“Why?” Yuan Lan could feel that Su Tao was planning something.

“He still has his worth right now.” Su Tao smiled.
After hearing Su Tao’s explanation, Yuan Lan wore a grave expression as she looked at Su Tao. She realised that she had underestimated Su Tao’s craftiness. If that’s really the case, then the cooperation between the two countries, which was currently halted, might be able to resume progress.
However, Yuan Lan wouldn’t despise Su Tao for his cunning plans. On the contrary, she would only feel that Su Tao was a flexible person.
In this world, all successful people were experts of crafty means.
For the past few days, Kelov hasn’t reported for work and locked himself at home. He was worried that the matter of him hiring someone to assassinate Su Tao might be found out. He was afraid that he might be arrested the moment he steps out of his house.
Suddenly, his doorbell rang, which frightened him. Looking through the seep by the window, he instantly grew a little nervous since it was a stranger.
The butler went to open the door and briefly conversed. He had already instructed the butler not to let anyone in without his permission. A brief moment later, his butler knocked on the door, to which Kelov immediately went to open it and asked, “Who was it?”
The butler knew that his employer had recently gotten into huge trouble. Not only did his employer lock himself in the house, but he also often raged at them. Looking at Kelov’s paled complexion, the butler inwardly sighed and replied, “Stefan’s subordinate. He said that he has something he would like to speak with you.”
Stefan’s subordinate and not someone to arrest him?
Letting out a sigh of relief, Kelov tried his best to calm down and instructed, “Welcome him in. I’ll come down shortly.”
When he came down, he saw two people in the living room. One of them was the one who pressed on the doorbell, and the second one looked familiar. He soon recognised that person. Strictly speaking, that person was not Stefan’s subordinate, but the aide of Stefan’s competitor, Kuprin, the secretary of Mr. Dobrynin.
He had once met the two on a high-end banquet.
“Is there anything?” Kelov asked, respectfully after instructing the butler to prepare two cups of coffee.
Picking up the coffee, Kuprin took a sniff of the coffee before taking a sip and replied, “I hope that the conversation that we’re going to have can be private.”
Wearing a smile on his face, Kelov replied, “Then, please, head to my study room.”
Giving a glance at his subordinate to signal the latter to remain, Kuprin followed Kelov to the study room. The room was spacious, decorated with all sorts of books. His gaze fell onto a complete work of Ley Tolstoy and smiled. “I never expected that you’re a lover of literature works!”

“In the past, I had a habit of reading books every day, but this habit slowly died down as I got older. May I wonder what you are going to talk to me about?” Kelov smiled.
After immediately sitting down on the chair, Kuprin tapped on the armrest and asked, “I’ll not beat around the bush with you. I heard that you’re recently involved in treating Stefan.”
Shock flashed through Kelov’s eyes. He knew that Stefan and Dobrynin were competing to be promoted, and they’re both enemies. Hence, he naturally figured out that Kuprin’s visit must hope to find something on Stefan. Kelov had been waiting for this moment to earn a massive sum of money, but he knew that he had to be cautious with this matter. He cannot be too anxious, or he would miss out on the best opportunity to get the best price.
“I have been visiting Mr. Stefan, but it’s just a private visit, not for anything work-related.” Kelov smiled.
Seeing that Kelov was such a tough fellow, Kuprin narrowed his eyes. “I’ll be frank with you. I heard that Stefan has a bizarre illness that consists of his limbs trembling. In serious cases, he might not even be able to speak. If that’s truly the case, then he’s no longer suitable to stay in his position.”
“I’m an ordinary person, and I’m not too familiar with the political field!” Kelov smiled.
Taking a deep breath, Kuprin could only speak his words even more blatantly, “If you can tell me about Stefan’s condition along with giving me the evidence, I’m willing to give you ₽1,000,000 as a reward!”
Locking his brows together, Kelov righteously replied, “I’m a doctor, and out of medical ethics, I can’t reveal my patient’s privacy to anyone else. Even if I know about it, there’s nothing I can do to help you. Please forgive me on this matter!”
Seeing how Kelov acted righteous and yet, gave off a feeling that he’s waiting for a good price, Kuprin felt disdain in his heart. However, he could only suppress it in his heart and gave a higher offer, “₽3,000,000!”
“You’re putting me in a difficult position!” Kelov bitterly smiled as he shook his head.
“₽5,000,000!” Kuprin gnashed his teeth.
“I’m not someone who would waver before money!” Kelov spoke in a stern expression.
“₽6,000,000!” Kuprin helplessly said before he continued, “I can’t go any higher!”
The price had already reached Kelov’s satisfaction, to which he smiled. “Seeing that we’re friends, I can only reveal a little to you!”
Upon hearing those words, Kuprin sighed in relief. If Kelov continued to demand a higher price, then he wouldn’t be able to explain to his superior.
Standing up from his seat, Kelov came to the centre of the bookshelf and gently pushed out. A safe appeared and he keyed in the password. He then retrieved a bag of documents at the top. But just when Kuprin wanted to take them, Kelov shook his head.
Inwardly sighing, Kuprin replied, “I’ll transfer the money to your account right now!”
Nodding his head, Kelov took out a bank account from his drawer. Kuprin knew that Keliv was truly a cunning fellow since he knew that this account must be created with another identity, which could be considered his retreat route. From this detail alone, Kuprin knew that Kelov must have often done things like this.
Going onto his internet banking account, Kuprin keyed in the information before he said, “I’ve already transferred the money to you.”
Even with Kuprin’s words, Kelov remained silent as he took out his phone and logged into that account. After making a verification, he nodded his head and handed the document over to Kuprin.
Kuprin knew that the reason why Kelov remained silent was to avoid any audio being taken down as evidence. Kelov was truly a meticulous and cautious recidivist.
However, even if he spent ₽6,000,000, it’s worth it if he could resolve this matter for his superior, Dobrynin.
When Kuprin left in the vehicle, a silver van slowly drove out. Tang Shi, who was seated in the front passenger seat, indistinctly muttered with food in her mouth, “That Dobrynin is truly anxious. We gave him the information only half an hour ago, and he had already immediately got someone to look for Kelov to buy the evidence of Stefan’s sickness.”
Half an hour ago, Hei Jin and Tang Shi left a note in the house of Dobrynin’s mistress, stating that Stefan was seriously ill and even revealed to him how he could obtain the evidence.
As a cold light flickered in Hei Jin’s eyes, he replied, “That Kelov is truly a despicable person!”
“Yeah, he’s not suitable to be a doctor. Compared to our Divine Physician Su, he’s nothing!” Tang Shi’s eyes flashed with rage.
After Kuprin’s car was far away, Hei Jin took out his phone and gave a call to Yuan Lan. “Just as Su Tao guessed. Kuprin successfully obtained the information on Stefan’s condition from Kelov.”
“Got it, continue to pay attention and immediately notify me if there are any changes!” Yuan Lan replied.

The Cyclical Nature of Time
A girl’s life ends unexpectedly early, or so it would seem. Instead of eternal nothingness, she wakes up in an empty valley with no clue how she got there. Taking her predicament in stride, she sets out to do something about it. Unfortunately for her, the first couple of people she meets aren’t much help. They claim they haven’t heard of electricity and dress as if they were on a break from their job at a Viking-themed amusement park. MC is a somewhat normal girl. She's pragmatic and not very angsty. The story is tagged with anti-hero, but to be clear, she is not a villain. She does good if she can, she just isn't morally motivated to do so. The story starts out smelling of fantasy but will eventually shift towards sci-fi. It contains some supernatural elements and has a strong lead, but it is not your usual power trip. Expect a story that takes its time, but not to the point where entire chapters are spent on mindless chit-chat. I’m not into that. This is my first serious attempt at writing and I've learnt a lot writing this. Unfortunately, that shows. Chapter 1-10 is slow and rather pointless. Things get better, but it is not until chapter 25 or so that I began understanding how to structure chapters and to make them support the larger story. I publish about 3000 words a week (every sunday) but I write about 10000 words a week. Sticking to that pace, which is easy, the last chapter will be out by July.
