《Physician’s Odyssey》Chapter 502 - Beyond Cure

Su Tao and Ni Jingqiu were dead drunk in the wine cellar. Although he didn’t believe in a pure relationship between men and women, he still enjoyed being together with Ni Jingqiu; the feeling was beyond any words could describe. Amongst all the women he knew, Ni Jingqiu’s appearance could only be ranked amongst the bottom of the highest tier. However, her playfulness, wits, and gracefulness made him feel extremely comfortable.
All along, he had taken the role of a listener, but when he’s together with Ni Jingqiu, he actually felt the urge to open his heart and reveal all his secrets.
At the very least, he had the urge to share his youth experiences with her.
Perhaps he had really considered Ni Jingqiu as a confidante.
When he woke up in the morning, he noticed that his arm felt numb. Glancing over, he saw Ni Jingqiu curling on his arm like a kitten with a blissful smile hanging on her lips that instantly made him feel relaxed.
But when he tried to remove his hand to allow Ni Jingqiu to sleep more comfortably, he ended up waking her instead.
As she slowly sat up and lifted her hair, she looked at the wine bottles that littered the ground and awkwardly smiled. “Just how much did we drink last night?”
Adjusting his posture, Su Tao leaned on the couch. “I didn’t keep track of it, but your capacity is pretty good!”
“Even I had no idea that I’m actually such a good drinker. After all, I tried to avoid alcohol in the past because of my condition.” Ni Jingqiu smiled in embarrassment.
Shaking his head, Su Tao smiled. “There’s one more reason. You didn’t have any friends that you could drink with in the past, which was why you drank so much last night.”
Smacking her forehead all of a sudden, Ni Jingqiu wryly smiled. “I nearly forgot that I have a meeting in the morning! But with this hangover, I’m afraid that I have to reject it.”
“Well, leave it to me. Don’t forget that I’m a physician!” Su Tao volunteered.
Searching in his medical box, he retrieved a pellet meant to dissipate the effects of alcohol before getting a bottle of mineral water and handed it over. “You’ll be fine in half an hour after taking it.”
Ni Jingqiu did not refuse his offer and smiled with her lips pursed. “Having a physician as a bestie is really great! But remember not to cross the line.”
“What line?” Su Tao asked.
“Don’t misunderstand our friendship as affection!” Ni Jingqiu said with a serious expression.
Waving his hand, Su Tao teased, “Don’t worry about that. Didn’t nothing happen between us last night? At the same time, we got an opportunity to have a better understanding of each other, especially after seeing how you behaved when you were drunk. At this moment, I no longer considered you as a woman.”

“How am I not a woman?” Ni Jingqiu snapped.
“Women ought to be beautiful, and not have gum in their eyes and bad breath.” Su Tao exaggerated.
Sending a hateful glare at Su Tao, Ni Jingqiu snapped, “You’re great! You’ve successfully made me hate you!”
“Well, why don’t we break up as friends, then?” Su Tao provoked.
“Stop dreaming! I will tangle you, and you can only dream about getting rid of me!” As Ni Jingqiu spoke, she charged over and embraced Su Tao’s neck before letting out a breath on his face.
Receiving a sneak attack, Su Tao breathed out on her face in retaliation.
A brief moment later, the two of them broke out into laughter. Although the morning breath wasn’t pleasant, their relationship rose along with this small incident.
“Do you know what’s on my mind when I first met you?” Ni Jingqiu laid on the ground as she stared at the ceiling.
“This lad is really handsome!” Su Tao instantly answered.
“Wrong!” Ni Jingqiu changed her posture and looked at Su Tao. “When a woman looks at a man, the looks are secondary, and the primary is the sense of security. When I felt helpless, you descended from the sky like an angel and resolved my issue. At that time, I wanted to make you my friend no matter what. I have many friends icing the cake, but I don’t have any friends that will help me in my hour of need.”
“So I’m a swan that has long been eyed by a toad? It’s no wonder why your eyes were weird when you looked at me every time.” Su Tao casually smiled.
With a smug look on her face, Ni Jingqiu replied, “That’s right! I, Ni Jingqiu, have spent so much effort to find a bestie, and you must answer my summons in the future whenever I want, or I won’t let you off!”
“How are you not going to let me off?” Su Tao said in disdain.
Fiddling her fingers, Ni Jingqiu was smug as she replied, “I will post what you told me when you were drunk last night on the internet. You can be considered an internet celebrity right now, and I’m sure you won’t be able to show your face if that happens!”
Taking a deep breath, Su Tao appeared angry as he snapped, “You’re despicable!”
“You’re no better!” Ni Jingqiu slowly stood up with a pout.
Suddenly, her phone rang, so she went to take the call. In the blink of an eye, she had returned to her cold demeanour and solemnly said, “I will participate in the meeting on time, and pay attention to Mr. Koizumi’s party; update me if anything happens.”
When she hung up the call, she waved her hand in Su Tao’s direction. “Alright, it’s getting late, and I have to head for work. After taking your medicine, I feel so much better now. In the future, I’ll come looking for you whenever there’s anything wrong with me. Oh, right. Since we’re besties, I won’t pay you any money for your service.”

After that, she chuckled as she left.
Looking at Ni Jingqiu’s silhouette, Su Tao took a deep breath with a faint smile on his lips. He knew that at this moment, Ni Jingqiu had utterly walked out of Huo Kun’s shadows.
At the same time, Huo Kun was genuinely unlucky. Although Su Tao saved the latter’s life back in the park, he had received the greatest blow in his life. Not only was the hottest celebrity in his company arrested, resulting in a significant loss, he even suffered in his own traps and broke his legs. Even now, the latter was still lying in the hospital, and even after he recovers, there would still be repercussions left from those injuries.
As for the traps, Su Tao had smoothly resolved them and even became the biggest winner.
Not only did he make the headlines several times, he even formed a relationship with Ni Jingqiu.
With the Ni Family’s support, it’s just a matter of time for him to gain a footing in Beijing.
Naturally, he’s not that materialistic and he would also help Ni Jingqiu as well.
When such a kindhearted and graceful woman approaches you, no man can resist that attraction.
The Wang Family’s Pharmacy had long queues every day. Even despite knowing that the Wang Family’s father and son wouldn’t just treat anyone, there were people still here who wanted to try their luck.
Under the guidance of an employee, a black Toyota Century parked at the designated spots for vehicles. Toyota Century was also known as Japan’s Rolls-Royce mainly because they’re mostly circulated in the country, and it’s rare for them to appear outside Japan. The previous Chief Executive of Xiangdu traveled in one, and China’s embassy in Japan also had one. For such a car, the cost was secondary, and it’s mainly a symbol of status.
After that, Kohei Koizumi and his wife came out from the backseat.
Looking at them, those queuing up had envy in their eyes since they knew how lucky the two of them were to be chosen by the Wang Family’s Pharmacy.
As Kohei Koizumi walked into the courtyard, he saw a middle-aged man in his fifties walking over. Shaking hands with that man, he smiled. “Hello, Mr. Inada!”
Kenji Inada was a businessman that often invested in China, and he had his connection in Beijing. He could personally make a trip over to the Wang Family’s Pharmacy, and he was someone that even Wang Ru had to go out to welcome his arrival.
With a smile on his face, Kenji Inada introduced, “This is my friend, Mr. Koizumi, and his wife, Mrs. Ochi.”
As Wang Ru shook hands with Kohei Koizumi, his gaze briefly paused on the latter’s face. He instantly knew that this was probably the patient seeking his treatment.
He had previously received Kohei Koizumi’s information, and if he could treat the latter, then he would be able to receive ¥100,000,000 as the treatment fees. It’s hard for anyone to refuse such a high offer, not even Wang Ru.
But when he looked at Kohei Koizumi’s face, he couldn’t help sighing, since this money was not going to be easy to earn!
After that, he brought everyone to a spacious house. Anyone who came for treatment was someone with noble status, so the consultation room was also well-decorated with all sorts of paintings hanging on the wall. The furniture was all made with superior wood, and even the desk used for consultation was custom-built with all kinds of equipment being displayed. This whole place permeated a scent of antiquity.
Wang Ru had long ordered someone to brew tea for everyone since he’s not in a hurry for treatment.
After a brief, casual conversation, Kenji Inada finally asked, “Divine Physician Wang, we’ve actually come with a motive. We would like to ask you and your father to take a look at Kohei Koizumi and see if you can treat him. We’re willing to pay millions.”
Waving his hand, Wang Ru smiled. “Mr. Inada, you’ve introduced many patients to me, and you should know that I abide by the eight conditions that shouldn’t be treated by TCM. Those that don’t believe in TCM; those that don’t listen to the physician; those that are hiding their illnesses; those that are a hypocrite; those that are indecisive; those that are full of themselves; those that are greedy; those that are beyond cure!”
Hearing those words, Kenji Inada gave an awkward look at Kohei Koizumi.
With a smile on his face, Kohei Koizumi smiled and waved his hand with sincerity. “Divine Physician Wang, I understand what you’re saying, and I also know my current condition. But my wife and I have looked around for doctors, and we just want to know if the verdicts are the same. Please understand my feelings since anyone would want to change their fate when facing terminal illnesses, and I won’t let go of any possible chance.”
Shaking his head, Wang Ru replied, “I can’t accept the money. Since Mr. Koizumi wants an answer, then I will give you one. You are already beyond cure. It’s not that I don’t want to treat you, but there’s nothing I can do to help.”

Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
