《Otherworldly Merchant》Chapter 579: Blood Splashing

The middle-aged man suddenly raised a butcher knife. It seemed he wanted to kill Lin Xia!
As the situation was urgent, I couldn’t think much. I directly sprinted into the villa and lashed the Sirius Whip. My whip made the man drop his knife. Then, I pulled Lin Xia and ran away.
After a few steps, I felt a sharp pain in my left arm. I turned and saw Lin Xia’s dull face on my arm. He was biting me!
“Damn you!” I couldn’t help but curse. That middle-aged man had found me and had attempted to slash Lin Xia just to force me to come out. And now, he was controlling Lin Xia to attack me!
I gritted my teeth and gathered all of my strength to give Lin Xia a strong whip. A transparent figure whined and flew out of his body. Then, it returned to the side of the middle-aged man, who was chasing after me. I finally saw the face of the transparent figure. He was a fat man.
Lin Xia was baffled. “Why am I here?”
I didn’t have time to explain to him. I brusquely said, “There’s a car parked outside. Drive it to my antique shop and ask Li Mazi to bring my stuff to me.”
Then, I gave him a few spirit talismans.
Lin Xia was a smart person. Although he was a little bewildered, he didn’t ask anything and quickly rushed away.
The middle-aged man held the pinky phalanx in his hand. The spirit immediately chased after Lin Xia, but I wielded my Sirius Whip to stop it. The man saw that Lin Xia had already driven the car away, so he controlled his spirit to attack me instead.
After several lashes, the Sirius Whip had temporarily used up its energy. I put it back at my waist. I took out a few talismans and smeared them on my wounded arm. Then, I attacked the spirit with the blood-stained spirit talismans. Although the blood on my arm wasn’t essence blood, it contained Yang energy.

When the middle-aged man saw my attack, he controlled the spirit to back off. However, his control wasn’t smooth. After a few steps, the spirit was hit. I was able to smack a talisman on its forehead.
The spirit immediately screamed and shrank. The middle-aged man rushed forward to retrieve his Yin spirit and returned it to the phalanx.
I exhaled in relief. Now, there was only the middle-aged man I needed to deal with! I took out a sharp dagger from my bag. I stared at him. “Why do you want to harm Lin Qiusheng?”
The middle-aged man sneered darkly. “That’s business between me and Lin Qiusheng. You shouldn’t put your nose in someone else’s business.”
I spat and raised my bleeding arm. “You made your spirit bite me. Yet, you’re telling me not to put my nose in your business?”
The middle-aged man’s face turned dark. He picked up the butcher knife from the ground and aimed at me.
My body twisted to the side to dodge his attack. At the same time, I moved behind him. The dagger in my hand that was aimed at his chest cut down furiously.
As I had repeatedly been in contact with otherworldly items and seen many dead bodies, I understood the structure of the human body very well. I attacked him precisely and cruelly. The man roared, but his knife was still attacking me.
I was weary from the previous fight, so I was half a beat slower. The butcher knife brushed my shoulder. Immediately, blood spurted. To prevent the man from attacking me again, I rolled to the side.
When I turned around, I saw the middle-aged man clutching his chest and wielding his knife one more time. He was dashing toward me. I clenched my jaw to focus. With the dagger in my hand, I glared at him.
As the man was shortening the distance between us, I grabbed my dagger tighter and was ready to risk my life with him. Suddenly, the vrooming noise of a car engine arose outside.

The middle-aged man knew that my reinforcement had come. His face changed drastically. He rushed into a thick bush and disappeared into the night. His movement was so smooth. It seemed he had borrowed the spirit’s power.
Li Mazi and Lin Xia got out of the car and found me wounded and bleeding. Li Mazi simply checked my wound and took me to the hospital where the doctor disinfected my wound and wrapped it up. The cut on my shoulder looked terrible, but it wasn’t deep. However, the spirit had bitten deep enough to my veins, which would take quite a long time to fully recover.
“Brother, you should rest well. Why don’t you ask Senior Shu and Chuyi to take over this case?” suggested Li Mazi.
“I don’t think we need to. It’s just my arm that got hurt. I am not paralyzed.”
After the fight tonight, I had accomplished something. The spirit wasn’t strong. As long as I could solve the man who controlled it, the case would be solved altogether. However, because I had stabbed that man, I wondered if he would meet up with Ru Xue tomorrow.
Li Mazi was puzzled. “Little Brother Zhang, did they hit you until you turned crazy? You’ve seen him twice, right? You can tell Lin Qiusheng some special features about him.”
I listened to him and found no reason to reject his idea…
Early the next morning, I told Lin Qiusheng about the appearance of the middle-aged man. Lin Qiusheng put on a grimace afterward. After a long time, he sighed and cursed, “I can’t believe that it’s him!”
“What’s the matter?” I pulled myself together as I learned that Lin Qiusheng knew that man.
“He’s Wang Jie. He was my roommate in university. We had a good relationship, but we didn’t keep in touch after graduation. Two years ago, I met him at our class reunion. I got his contact afterward.”
Li Mazi pursed his lips. “Why does he want to harm you?”
Lin Qiusheng’s face stiffened. After a while, he sighed again. “Wang Jie and I are similar. We do cooking shows. However, he has no significant talents. His career isn’t going well. Since I’ve been doing well with my career, he asked me to help him. I had never expected that he would turn hostile toward me.”
It turned out Lin Qiusheng introduced Wang Jie to his company and made him his assistant. Lin Qiusheng was dedicated to teaching him about his various experiences with working on cuisine shows. After one year, Wang Jie had finally hosted a show on his own. However, he wasn’t a gifted person. His episodes failed one after another.
Lin Qiusheng didn’t know who had instigated Wang Jie on the thought that he wanted to take his glory as a gourmet, and that he had secretly worked with the television station to cancel Wang Jie’s show. Dissatisfied and angry, the man resigned. They had stopped contact with each other afterward. Lin Qiusheng had never thought that Wang Jie would harm his entire family.
I thought it was absurd that Wang Jie wanted his benefactor’s life because of something trivial like that.
However, Li Mazi understood the story better. “There are many types of people in the world. It’s okay, we were bound to bump into this sort of person someday.”
“Your sense of taste went away unknowingly? Have you seen a doctor?” I asked.
Lin Qiusheng got my idea immediately. “You think Wang Jie did this, too?”
I nodded. Although I couldn’t confirm it now, from my experience, it was certainly related to Wang Jie.
Lin Qiusheng was so angry that his face turned red. He grunted and cursed Wang Jie for being heartless. I shook my head. If we knew the murderer, Ru Xue wouldn’t need to go to see him.
“No, she should still go!” Lin Qiusheng insisted.
“Wang Jie isn’t only greedy, but he’s also perverted. If he’s not seriously hurt, he will go on the date.”
Sooner or later, we had to deal with him. I contemplated and agreed with his idea.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.

No one dares to bully him, because THAT is more or less a metaphorical death wish, but he is the center of lots of gossip and attention. He has a good life. Fortunately for John, his school is the largest in the world and so there were still many students who didn't know about him to annoy him. Unfortunately for John, he attracted the attention of a certain student who seems friendly enough but definitely has ulterior motives. This student will show John something that will change his life forever... **No, this is not a romance(yet at least) and the "certain student" is a guy lol so don't get any ideas** Author's Message: Hey, everyone.
