《Otherworldly Merchant》Chapter 572: The Traitor that Sells His Country

I knew I couldn’t just get in there to check on him. I took a walk around the hospital to find a way to sneak in.
Finally, I found that the back door of the hospital wasn’t guarded. However, when I went near to see, I flinched. This place had a stinky water ditch that was three meters wide. Not only did it have discharged wastewater, but it also had feces and wasted human organs.
I had no other option. I had to jump over this horrible ditch. After lingering at the edge for a long time, I hadn’t gathered enough courage to jump. I helplessly looked around to find a simple bridge. Any kind of bridge would do.
It was too bad there was not a single wooden board that I could use besides for a stack of white rubbish piled up like a mountain. After standing in a daze for a while, I suddenly had a solution: beckon and ride a spirit!
A beckoned spirit could help me travel fast. Every time I invited a spirit, it helped me move faster, but I hadn’t tried a far-distance jump yet.
I carried out my plan immediately. The moment I was about to invite a wild ghost, I heard rattling footsteps behind me.
My heart sank. Damn, those policemen are so professional! They got me right when I reached the back door!
I was ready to flee when I heard Xiao Quan’s voice. “When we go in there, there’s no need to show mercy. We’ll kill Ye Weiguo then pin the crime on that boy Zhang. We’ll be safe…”
“Haha, clever trick!” A middle-aged man’s voice appraised Xiao Quan’s suggestion.
That voice sounded familiar. Hiding behind the pile of rubbish, I moved slightly to the side to see the source of the voices. At first glance, I saw Xiao Quan. The man standing next to him was the Team Leader of the State Security Ministry’s Special Operation Team, Jiang Shan!
“Holy moly, snakes and rats sure share the den.” I was enraged and my teeth felt itchy. It wasn’t because they had plotted against me. I was angry that they were the elite force of the state and they had joined hands to do bad things.
They weren’t different from the corrupted imperial courtiers in ancient times. I clenched my jaw and made up my mind. I would help Ye Weiguo eliminate Jiang Shan and Xiao Quan.
The two of them were standing at the edge of the ditch around a few meters away from me. It seemed they couldn’t enter the hospital from the front because of the police. They had chosen the back door like me.
But as they were two people, they could move easier. Jiang Shan squatted by the ditch with both hands in front of him, forming support. It seemed he would be the support for Xiao Quan to get to the other side.

Things didn’t look good, but I couldn’t stop them. They hadn’t done anything bad yet, and they could blackmail me if I showed up now.
Xiao Quan took a few steps back then started to run and jumped on Jiang Shan’s hands, which reflexed and sent him forward. He landed on the other side of the stinky ditch, then gave Jiang Shan an OK gesture. With a dark smile, he entered the hospital.
If I lingered here, Ye Weiguo would be killed. As soon as Xiao Quan went into the hospital, I directly hurled myself toward Jiang Shan and hit him at his temple. But the man was tough enough. He didn’t lose his consciousness. After receiving my punch, he only staggered a little bit.
“You heard everything, right?” Jiang Shan asked maliciously as he rolled his eyes at me.
I didn’t have time to talk nonsense with him. I attacked him again. Jiang Shan just sneered and counterattacked. Although he had skills, he didn’t work in my business. As I had ambushed him successfully, he was slow now. I took the right chance and sprinkled cinnabar powder over his eyes.
“Argh…” Jiang Shan covered his eyes and screeched. However, as he was afraid that he could alert the cops out there, he had to refrain himself. I didn’t try to be polite and directly punched and kicked Jiang Shan. I repeatedly hit him until he was unconscious.
Then, I confiscated all of his communication tools and buried him in the pile of rubbish. I left his head out so that he wouldn’t suffocate to death.
After everything was done, I knew it would be impossible to chase after Xiao Quan now. I hoped that Ye Weiguo’s subordinates would hold him down for a while.
Then, I summoned a ghost. The ghost was so bony that he seemed to only have a layer of skin covering his skeleton. I told him Ye Weiguo’s birthday.
Fortunately, my shirt had some bloodstains from the time Ye Weiguo vomited blood. The skinny ghost sensed Ye Weiguo’s blood, then took me up to the fifth floor. He hovered by the outside block of the air conditioner.
“Is Ye Weiguo inside?” My legs were shaking, but I ignored my acrophobia.
The bony ghost nodded. Suddenly, I heard someone screech from the room, followed by the sound of a brawl. It seemed Xiao Quan was attacking Ye Weiguo’s soldiers.
I tried to pull the window panels. Luckily for me, they weren’t locked. I let the wild ghost leave and pushed the window open to jump in. I saw Ye Weiguo sitting on his bed. He angrily looked at the door to his patient room. When he saw me come through the window, he wasn’t startled. He gave me a faint smile.

I turned and followed his line of sight. Ye Weiguo’s subordinates were all iron-blood soldiers. He was well prepared to put an end to Xiao Quan’s murderous act. I guessed the scream I had heard was from one of his soldiers Xiao Quan had attacked.
Ye Weiguo was all right. I relaxed my nerves and went to his bed. “You pretended to be seriously wounded, right?”
“Yest, it was the last chance I gave to Xiao Quan. Unfortunately, he didn’t take it.” Ye Weiguo sighed and handed me a document. I received it and opened it. It was the profiles of the victims of this case. I was doubtful because I had read this document before.
“Keep reading,” Ye Weiguo wore a dark face.
I had to be patient and continued reading. In the end, I dropped my jaw. The more I read, the more frightened I felt.
Indeed, it was as I had imagined. The people who were murdered were Jiang Shan and Xiao Quan’s subordinates. At first, I thought that the worst things they had done were receive bribes or embezzlement or gather up their party. I had never thought that they had committed treason! They had made use of their positions to steal documents about the weapons the state was developing and sold them to foreign forces, which granted them millions and millions! In short, it was a team of traitors led by Jiang Shan and Xiao Quan.
“I had a good relationship with Xiao Quan. I found out his secret when I visited his house one day. I then investigated everything.” Ye Weiguo sounded reluctant. “After I collected the evidence, I didn’t dare to submit the report to my superior immediately. The Special Operation Team is the treasure of the Ministry of State Security. Unless I can catch them in the middle of the act, it’ll be tough to bring them to justice. Moreover, from my side, I hoped that my brother Xiao Quan would listen to me and step away from this affair. Xiao Quan didn’t listen. Right when I didn’t know what to do, Guan Yu showed up…”
“That’s why you were watching the development of the case. You were waiting for a chance. When they brought me here to deal with the ghost, you knew your chance had come, right?” I smiled and felt scared of Ye Weiguo. He had seen the big picture, which included all of the people involved in this affair.
Ye Weiguo didn’t deny it. He pointed at the soldiers who were fighting outside. “Mr. Zhang, I’m happy that you’re here. However, today, you don’t need to do anything. Just stand here and watch the show.”
I knew he had made preparations for something else. I didn’t want to care about this, but still, I had to think about Guan Yu.
It would be strange for Guan Yu’s soul to be still lingering in this mortal world. Thus, it could be a wisp of his soul or some fixation of his that had dwelled in an otherworldly item. Moreover, the otherworldly item had to be in the Haidian District.
I looked at Ye Weiguo as I wanted to ask him if he had any clue. However, after thinking about his smile that hid daggers, my heart sank as another idea exploded in my head. Could it be that the spirit of Guan Yu was killing people because of Ye Weiguo’s manipulation?
Given the tacit understanding between him and Guan Yu, it was possible. Anyway, it wasn’t the right time to ask these questions. If Xiao Quan’s life ended here, Ye Weiguo would have the power.
My life had shifted from one hand to another. Ye Weiguo just looked a little more trustworthy than his friend…
The police siren howled downstairs. I came to the window and saw many policemen go upstairs. It turned out to be the show Ye Weiguo wanted me to see. Soon, the policemen swarmed his patient room. As the victim, Ye Weiguo explained to them that Xiao Quan wanted to kill him. He even showed the police a clip of Xiao Quan shooting him with his pistol.
Then, Ye Weiguo unbuttoned his shirt in front of the policemen, which revealed the bulletproof vest he wore inside.
He pointed at the policeman who led the team and shouted, “No high-rank officer is standing here. There is just a murderer and a victim. Officer, I hope you will bring me justice.”
“All right, sir!” The policeman saluted him, then escorted the subdued Xiao Quan downstairs. I wanted to see him, so I curiously followed the policemen.
Unexpectedly, Xiao Quan turned his head to see me. Our eyes met. He didn’t look worried at all. He even smiled.
I was puzzled, and when I got a hold of myself, the policemen had left. The hospital was empty now.
I made up my mind to go to Ye Weiguo’s house to see if I could find some clues about the otherworldly item. But before I left the hospital, I heard someone screaming. It was Ye Weiguo’s voice!
“Damn it!” Recalling Xiao Quan’s expression from when the policemen took him away, I suddenly recognized that he wanted the police to arrest him so that someone else would have the chance to take action!
I rushed back to the patient ward. When I saw the scene inside, I was dumbstruck!
