《Otherworldly Merchant》Chapter 546: The Odd Hunting Trip Story

After solving the rat monster in Tangjia Village, Li Mazi and I immediately returned to Wuhan City. We also happened to finish a resenting child ghost along the way.
When I returned to my antique shop, I resumed my pleasant and quiet life like a wild crane moving through silver clouds. Li Mazi went home and continued to pamper his wife like a servile eunuch. However, he would randomly visit my shop.
On the day I thought Li Mazi would come, I had planned to buy two bottles of Blue Wine to drink with him.
As soon as I opened the shop, I saw Li Mazi. He was sitting at my shop front, leisurely drinking West Lake Longjing tea while checking out the beauties walking on the street with his despicable eyes.
This man would never change his nature. I wondered if Ru Xue would ask him to kneel and ask for forgiveness if she knew about this. Anyway, Li Mazi still had his conscience. When he saw me, he offered me breakfast.
I sat next to him and bit into my hamburger. I asked, “How is your shop doing?”
“Oh well, it’s hard to fool people nowadays. I can’t sell many of my counterfeits. I haven’t earned a dime these days.” Li Mazi pouted. He didn’t sound pleased.
I gave him a faint smile. I had already guessed that. Our business was unpredictable. We couldn’t guess when the next case would come. Fortunately, we had earned a lot after each case. We were somewhat rich now.
“Ru Xue took Li Meng and little Nianchu to her grandparent’s place,” Li Mazi told me.
At the same time, Yin Xinyue had to stay with her company these days. She was busy, too. Li Mazi and I couldn’t put up with our boredom anymore. “Should we go out and look around for something to do?” suggested Li Mazi.
“I’ll call Senior Shu to see if he has something for us to do.” I smiled.
I hadn’t heard wind about Senior Shu for quite a long time. I was curious to know where he was, or if he was still hiding from his enemy.
Right when I was about to call Senior Shu, the telephone in my shop rang. Li Mazi went to pick up the phone. After a few seconds, he threw me an ambiguous look.
It seemed we had a case!
The feeling was similar to someone giving you a pillow when you needed to rest the most. I went to receive the phone. “This is Zhang Jiulin. Please brief me on the events that have happened to you. Has your house experienced paranormal activities? Do you have any trouble-making antiques?”
As soon as I said that, the person from the other line blurted, “Mr. Zhang, I have something I need your help with! Please accept this case!”

After saying that, he added, “It was Senior Shu. He told me to contact you.”
Perhaps he was afraid that I wouldn’t help him.
I patted my thigh and thought that this old man and I had an agreement over telepathy. He had introduced a new case to me.
However, I was still afraid that Senior Shu was fooling me. He had tricked me with a few difficult cases already. I had to make a mental note. Then, I asked the person on the line to tell me what he had experienced.
“It’s hard to explain clearly in a few sentences. Please come to me personally.” Then, he hung up the call. A moment later, I received a message. The address was somewhere in Shenyang.
My excitement faded after reading the text.
This person is interesting, I thought to myself.
He asked for a favor and sounded so arrogant. If he wasn’t introduced by Senior Shu, I wouldn’t have paid attention to his case.
It was autumn, and the land above the Yellow River was golden. After crossing the Shanhai Pass, the temperature dropped all of a sudden. I shivered inadvertently. I was lucky that Li Mazi had expected this. He gave me a cotton coat from his bag, which gave me instant warmth.
It was a strenuous journey to Shenyang. I called the client when we arrived. Soon, a BMW appeared in front of us. A young man wearing a black suit got out of the car. He wore a pair of sunglasses and walked confidently with a straight back. It seemed he was an important figure.
Before the man arrived, Li Mazi took the time to whisper to my ear, “That man looks rich! Remember to charge him more.”
I nodded. We talked to the man in the black suit, then followed his car. He drove to the highway. After a while, we reached the suburban area of Shenyang.
“Brother, why did you call for my help?” I drove the car parallel to his and rolled down the window to talk to him.
He gave me an unexpected answer. “Sir, I don’t know. When you go there, my boss will tell you.”
It turned out he was just a footman. I didn’t ask him anything else and checked around. We continued to drive for a while. Finally, from a distance, I saw a large-scale building that looked like one of those ancient imperial palaces or towers. The scene was magnificent.
“The palace looks familiar. I think I’ve seen it before,” Li Mazi said excitedly as he craned his neck.
I turned to assess the place. Then, I remembered that we were in Shenyang. Those should be the Eastern Qing Tombs. The founder of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Nurhaci, was buried there.

I continued to observe the scene respectfully. However, it was strange. I had recognized wisps of black air emitting from the Eastern Qing Tombs.
Although the tombs would gradually have Yin energy, this place was an imperial tomb where the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, was buried! The Yin energy here should be white or purple. Since I had seen black air, it signaled the existence of an evil spirit!
Through the window of my car, I noticed a pedestrian. I had just taken a glance, but I could feel thick Yin energy from him. It seemed he was being possessed by something foul.
I thought about pulling over to have a look and see if I could help him, but the young man in the suit had left me far behind. I was afraid that I would lose sight of him, so I had to continue driving. I felt more curious about those tombs.
The cars gradually left the urban area. The scenes alongside the road had turned into mountains and waters. Finally, the young man in the BMW pulled to a full stop.
I looked around. This ravine looked like a bucket that carried treasures. There was a mountain that stood behind, and low hills in the front. A long river was on the left, with small flanks on the right. It was an area of rare and excellent geomancy.
Looking at this ravine, I strongly believed that the client had a big background. Behind the ravine, we saw a villa. From a distance, I saw that the villa was built in a traditional style. The area it was situated in wasn’t small, either. At first glance, it looked like a palace.
I had a wry smile. We both stand when we pee, so why is the difference between us so big?
Before we entered the complex, a fat man that looked smart and savvy came to greet us. When he knew that I was Zhang Jiulin, he was so excited. He pulled my hand to usher me into the lobby to talk.
When we sat down, he introduced himself. “I’m Ye Chen. I’m the one who called you for help.”
I thought, Don’t babble nonsense and get to the point!
“Could you tell me what happened? You sounded panicked on the phone.”
After listening to me, Ye Chen’s face darkened in just a second. It seemed he didn’t know what to do with his hands, so he just wiggled his fingers on the table. After keeping silent for a few seconds, he started to talk. “It’s not me who’s in trouble. It’s my boss. His name is Jin Shengqing. It seems he has provoked something foul. I’m in charge of contacting you for help…”
I was more surprised. That Jin invited us here to help, but why does it look like we have to contact him through his agent?
Ye Chen told us more details. “My boss works in the stock business. He loves outdoor activities, especially archery. When he has free time, he goes to Mount Changbai nearby to hunt. Around half a month ago, my boss brought his bodyguards with him to go hunting. They went to Mount Changbai. That time, they had a big harvest with dozens of wild animals. Boss Jin was happy. He gave big bonuses to his bodyguards. However, when he came back, he became strange. At first, his personality seemed to have changed. He became hot-tempered. However, we thought that he was feeling some pressure, so we didn’t pay attention to it. His situation got worse after that. When he sees his friends or even his family, he loses control and hits them.”
He continued the story. “Since his condition isn’t right, I have to stay in the villa with some bodyguards to take care of him. The other night, he suddenly roared in his room. Then, he began to sob loudly. When we heard the commotion, we went to his room to check. Our boss was sitting on the ground with one hand supporting his chin. His other hand was making an orchid hand gesture. He looked so aggrieved when he wiped his tears. He didn’t look like our boss anymore. He looked like a whining girl. When we attempted to go to him, he turned and talked to us in a female voice!”
Ye Chen’s voice trembled when he came to this part. His face began to sweat. He gulped his saliva then continued. “I heard that Senior Shu is good at solving these things. I contacted him and learned that he was about to take a flight to Congo in Africa to avoid his enemy. He gave me your contact information.”
After listening to Ye Chen’s story, I recreated the images in my head. I suddenly felt a chill.
However, it wasn’t that I hadn’t experienced the same situation before. In the case of the embroidered shoes, Li Meng was possessed by a female ghost. I pulled myself together and asked Ye Chen, “If Mr. Jin moves out of this villa, will it still happen?”
“It’s useless. We’ve tried all sorts of things. No matter where he is, he will act the same at night…” Then, Ye Chen grabbed my hand. “Please help our boss!”
I gave him a nod. “Where’s Mr. Jin?”
“He went out for a walk. He knows you’re coming today. He’ll be back before twilight. Gentlemen, please rest first. When he comes back, I’ll notify you,” said Ye Chen.
Since Ye Chen sounded emotional, I didn’t ask for any more information.

Fighting to be Kind in a Cultivation World
Aren't you tired of the typical cultivation story, where an isekai'd person comes into the world and becomes a brutal or selfish person? I know I am. So instead of being fully changed by the world, I want this protagonist to stick to their beliefs and help to change the world (and people) for the better. There will still be main character development and tests of those beliefs, but I want them to maintain that aspect. Brief Synopsis:American is thrown into a typical Xuanhuan cultivation world where the masses of the people are typically sacrificed for the abilities of the few. This is meant to be an alternate take on how protagonists approach these worlds. Main character comes into the world w/ scanning, healing, and monster taming abilities. The release schedule will begin on Dec 1st. The schedule is 2 chapters/week (Tue & Fri) at 11pm. Please like, comment, and follow, as that helps me to gauge interest in the series. Final note: I notice that many cultivation novels treat abuse or sexual assault as a throwaway tool to set a stage. I think the way it is normally done is both lazy and a disrespectful to victims. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve the way I've done it in this series, please let me know. I want to do this the right way. P.S. *Nudge, nudge* If you are looking for a sneak peek of up to 16 chapters ahead, check out my Patreon. :D
