《Heaven's Devourer》Chapter 0169: Carnage on the Bipo Mountain Range

The 10,000 Swords Formation shook dangerously.
Outside the 10,000 Swords Formation, the demons howled and the dao sect disciples hooted. The earth churned, and the demons marked the ground with their claws.
Outside the 10,000 Swords Formation, Night Wishes for Snow was completely paralyzed by his predicament.
There were good and evil people amongst the 1,000 disciples. Some were hurling malicious insults, others were frightened half to death. They awaited Jiang Xie's rescue, for their freedom to enter this battle.
"Master, guide me!" Night Wishes for Snow knelt towards Feng Xueya. He could not make a decision.
These thousand Heavenly Sword Sect disciples were supposed to fight, not guard their prisoners. Once they lost control of these Zhongyuan Dao Sect disciples, they would only become trouble.
They might even kill more people.
Feng Xueya's back was turned to Night Wishes for Snow, fully concentrating on repelling their opponents with the 10,000 Swords Formation.
"Snow, are you plagued by the dilemma of good and evil? Are you unable to see your path?"
"Master, I am."
Night Wishes for Snow lifted his head. Feng Xueya spoke to him, his back still turned.
"This is a fight of the Immortal Dao. In war, there are only victors and losers. There is no good or evil. Their bodies and minds belong to the Zhongyuan Dao Sect, and they are our enemies. Mercy to your enemies is cruelty to your brethren.
"We martial cultivators are benevolent to the people. We are benevolent to our own. But we cannot be benevolent to our enemies. Even if the enemy is innocent. Even if the enemy is helpless. Wars of the Immortal Dao are cruel. There is no dao to speak of here, only victory or defeat.
"We sword cultivators need a firm heart. Know your path of dao. Pursue the Immortal Dao, and deliver all living creatures from suffering.
"War is war. Evil belongs to those who began the war. The rules of this world are created by the strong that survive. So Jiang Xie is not wrong. If we are weaker than they are, and our Bipo Mountain Range is taken, then we are wrong. The weak ones are the wrong ones.
"So kill! Let the blood flow, slaughter our enemies!"
This was Feng Xueya's final conclusion.
Night Wishes for Snow saw the light now. Although this logic was cruel, the world was no perfect place.
Mercy to one's enemies was cruelty to one's allies.
This was a battle for survival. This was strategy, it had nothing to do with good or evil.
"KILL!"
At Night Wishes for Snow's command, a thousand Zhongyuan Dao Sect disciples’ heads hit the floor.
......
Wu Yu turned back.
"Killed?"
He was a little shaken.
But he did not waver.
"Jiang Xie abandoned them, but their hearts were still with the Zhongyuan Dao Sect. This is their only fate." Wu Yu took a deep breath. He had just escaped from the Ninth Spirit, and knew how cruel the path of Immortal Dao could be. It was not just cultivation, but the struggles between people, between nations, invading each other - all of this was for one's own people to live a better life. On the battlefield, no one cared if you were a good person.

Struggle was the chief concern of all living things.
"Cultivation is plunder. The strong are just."
Recalling this phrase, Wu Yu's revelation deepened. If he were strong enough, far above Feng Xueya and Jiang Xie, then he could scare Jiang Xie away from this place and bring peace and justice.
But such strength was won through plunder. Even if one did not steal it from others, one would take it from nature, from the spiritual qi of the earth.
In this chaotic world of Immortal Dao, if one wanted stability, peace, and to better oneself, then one had to hold true to one's own dao and one's own purpose.
Today, Feng Xueya had killed the Zhongyuan Dao Sect disciples and opened the war. This was in his nature. Although it was cruel, it was a huge loss to the Zhongyuan Dao Sect.
"Only someone strong enough, whose heart and mind is clear enough, can hold on to a territory. This territory can then be considered righteous. All other fights and wars are waged for the right to bear the pennant of justice.
"The only way is for me to become that strongest person."
Wu Yu, from fighting mortal wars to those for the Immortal Dao, had finally become enlightened.
"Martial cultivation is plunder. Only the strongest can be heroic!"
He had been roaming around the 10,000 Swords Formation. This was the first battlefield. Just then, Wu Yu had casually killed a demon at the ninth tier of the Qi Condensation Realm, and still the Ninth Spirit had not discovered him.
The Ninth Spirit knew that she could not find him in the 10,000 Swords Formation and was now joining forces with Jiang Xie to batter the 10,000 Swords Formation!
"Kill!"
Only by killing enough opponents could he protect the Heavenly Sword Sect, the place which had given him new life. Wu Yu deeply loved every inch of soil here.
Huo!
Suddenly, Wu Yu saw an electric net crackle.
There was a huge, purple bird of lightning there!
It was the Thunder Seabird!
He was very prominent on the battlefield, and took no pains to hide himself. At this time, he was a fair distance away from the Ninth Spirit.
Finally, a worthy opponent had showed himself!
He remembered how he had easily destroyed Zhao Changtian and the others in Sky Region Forest before kidnapping him like a chick in his claws. Following that, he had been easily and ruthlessly caught by the Thunder Seabird while he was using the Art of Sword Flight.
In Wu Yu's heart, this 1,000-year demon Thunder Seabird was a nightmare second only to the Ninth Spirit.
And now Wu Yu would fight him within the 10,000 Swords Formation!
Their eyes met, their clash determined by fate. Wu Yu closed in rapidly, catching up to this 1,000-year-old demon!

The Thunder Seabird's eyes crackled and flashed with lightning and hostility.
"Wu Yu, the Ninth Spirit has never been angrier. You have let her down and enraged all the demons. Today, I will make you pay the price," the Thunder Seabird said raspily.
"Go to hell!"
Was Wu Yu's response to him.
Perhaps the Thunder Seabird still thought that he could catch him like a little chick.
Perhaps the Thunder Seabird still slighted him, and thought him a child who had cultivated for a mere few years....
But now Wu Yu only saw him as a number, and that number was: one.
“One” meant that he was the first tenth tier Qi Condensation opponent that Wu Yu would kill in the 10,000 Swords Formation!
Outside the 10,000 Swords Formation, people were watching the showdown between Wu Yu and the Thunder Seabird. Everyone's attention was quickly attracted.
They shouted their support, and others began to gather at Wu Yu's position. The Ninth Spirit looked over, but did not come over, instead continuing her attack. She naturally knew that if she headed over, Wu Yu would vanish by the time she arrived. As long as the 10,000 Swords Formation was not broken, Feng Xueya could help Wu Yu hide.
For now, the Ninth Spirit only wanted to break the 10,000 Swords Formation. She did not want to let up for even a single moment.
She knew well that Wu Yu might slaughter the demons and ghostly cultivators. But none of that was important. All she wanted was Wu Yu himself.
Amidst the shouts and curses, Wu Yu and the Thunder Seabird clashed!
Before the Thunder Seabird's eyes, Wu Yu used the Immortal Ape Transformation, turning into a golden ape that was even more berserk. With the Onyx & Pearl Dao Swords in his hands, his killing intent rose. At least within the 10,000 Swords Formation, Feng Xueya aided him slightly upon seeing that he was fighting the Thunder Seabird. He held a slight advantage.
"I want to see what kind of killing power a supposed genius like you has!" the Thunder Seabird disdained. His huge wings flapped, gathering a mass of electricity that barreled down on him. The very ground shook with its power as it charred everything in its way!
"More than you can imagine!"
In that instant, Wu Yu charged forth like a shadow!
As he neared the ball of electricity, he suddenly combined the two swords. His tremendous physical and spiritual power were all concentrated in the Onyx & Pearl Dao Swords!
Great Dao of the Golden Sword!
A straight up clash!
Spiritual power and his powerful body!
Great Dao of the Golden Sword had been cultivated to completion by Wu Yu in the last three months. As the golden sword flashed out, its brilliance was extraordinary. A huge sword cut through the skies, completely slicing through the Thunder Seabird's huge ball of electricity!
The problem was that the golden sword did not dissipate after slicing through the electric ball. It preserved its original shape, gathering on the Onyx & Pearl Dao Sword. This was the true Great Dao of the Golden Sword!
Bang!
Wu Yu took to the skies, brandishing his huge, golden sword. He began to attack like a berserker, slicing and striking at the Thunder Seabird!
Peng! Peng! Peng!
Thunder Seabird frantically used his demon techniques to summon forth thunder and lightning, even using his web of lightning to ensnare Wu Yu!
But all they could see was Wu Yu slicing through the Thunder Seabird's demon techniques again and again. The Thunder Seabird was shocked and was continually beaten back by Wu Yu. He drew closer and closer to the Ninth Spirit and other allies on the way!
"Die!"
A hearty cry shook the entire field!
In that instant, the crowd watched with bated breath. All they saw was a tremendous stroke from Wu Yu that sliced below the Thunder Seabird's chin. The Thunder Seabird's skull was separated from its torso. He booted it towards the Ninth Spirit!
Fresh blood spattered on the floor!
The golden sword slaying demons was a shocking sight. The Zhongyuan Dao Sect had just watched their brethren slaughtered. And now, with the Thunder Seabird dead, their morale was at an all-time low!
Moreover, the Thunder Seabird's head flying over to the Ninth Spirit's side was a clear challenge!
Wu Yu lifted his head, meeting the Ninth Spirit's gaze far away.
This was the first time that he had issued such a clear challenge to that woman.
Wu Yu wanted to let her know that he would not be eaten by her.
But the Ninth Spirit did not respond. Or perhaps this was beyond what she had calculated for. She wasted no words, and Wu Yu realized that she had already pushed very close to the position of the Stone Gate of a Thousand Swords.
Whoosh!
Another looming figure appeared before Wu Yu, watching the downed Thunder Seabird in shock.
That was the ghostly cultivator Shen Erjun.
Shen Erjun started, then hurriedly turned to escape.
"You're number two!"
Wu Yu flitted after him in hot pursuit, elusive as a shadow.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
