"Ancient Sword, attack!"

We were less than a hundred Dragonlight Cavalry strong, but we still charged toward our enemies without any hesitation whatsoever, hacking away with wild abandon. Already, some of our men were falling off their horses, covered from head to toe with arrows and magic.

It was the final battle, but the intensity of the battle didn’t decrease in the slightest. Even Vienna’s Sorrow couldn’t help but feel deep veneration at our suicidal assault. He raised his sword and declared, "They are a worthy opponent. Northern Alliance, grant them a regretless death. Attack!"

The ground quaked under the enemy’s hooves. The Northern Alliance had deployed their strongest weapon, and their elite cavalry were launching their final assault.

Metal clashed against metal as countless AoE skills such as Xiezhi Howl, Roch Crush, Purgatory of Ice and Magma and more erupted among the enemies. People kept dying in droves.

In the end, the Northern Alliance was able to devour our last inch of ground. A group of cavalry rushed into our backline and slaughtered our mages, archers and tamers.

Boom!

An Ice Blast erupted in the middle of a group and engulfed all the magic knights in the area. It was none other than our mage, Stranger of Three Lifetimes. After swinging her scepter and taking out an entire line of enemies with Fire Blast, she shouted, "Come at me if you dare, idiots of the Northern Alliance! Your great-aunt ain’t afraid of you!"

Her taunt drew the enemy’s attention as expected. Vienna’s Sorrow immediately sent a large troop of cavalry after her.

Thud thud thud…

Many spears stabbed toward Stranger of Three Lifetimes, but they only managed to warp her Origin Energy Shield a little. Paying no heed to their ineffective assault, she kept throwing Ice Blast after Ice Blast into the cavalry troops and reaping their lives like the god of death, showing off the power of a high-level mage completely. Not only that, she kept moving around the battlefield to reduce the amount of damage taken as much as possible. There was only so much damage the Origin Energy Shield could take after all. Still, the mage was standing her own against all the cavalry around her.

As she cleared out yet another space with Fire Blast, a spear hit her from the back and made a soft noise. Her Origin Energy Shield finally began to disappear gradually.

"Hmm?!"

Stranger of Three Lifetimes’ eyes turned steely as she shifted to the right and threw out another Ice Blast. A dozen or so magic knights instantly fell to the spell, and even more people were frozen in place.

When their Magic Shield shattered, a mage wouldn’t be able to activate it again for another 6 seconds. Countless mages had died in a PvP battle during these 6 seconds. To every mage, Magic Shield was like their own life. If the Magic Shield lived, so did the mage. Once that layer of protection was gone however, so was the caster!

"Her shield is gone! Take her out now!" The magic knights laughed loudly as they thrust their spears wantonly at her direction.

"Hmph!"

Stranger of Three Lifetimes kept retreating until she could retreat no longer. Just when the spearheads were about to hit her, she swung her scepter and parried three attacks in a row, stunning the magic knights who were attacking her to speechlessness. A triple parry wasn’t a technique even a first-rate fighter could claim they could pull off 100% of the time, and yet the mage had pulled it off perfectly.

In the end though, it was impossible to parry every attack from every direction, and the mage hurriedly drank a potion after taking a hit to the body, all the while dancing like a falling leaf that could be crushed by the storm she was subjected to at any moment. When the 6-second cooldown was finally up, she stomped on foot on the ground, resummoned her Origin Energy Shield and fired Ice Blast straight at her enemies!

Boom!

The spell killed a ton of enemies in an instant. Three Galaxy Storms later, no one dared to approach her for a moment.

Vienna’s Sorrow finally decided that he couldn’t watch this any longer. He pushed his way through the crowd and charged toward Stranger of Three Lifetimes.

Following next to Vienna was a Heroic Bannerman; a mounted fighter. It was clear that he was cooperating with Vienna to trap Stranger of Three Lifetimes and kill her in one go.

Thud thud thud...

Stranger of Three Lifetimes kept flying here and there like a dancing butterfly. At the same time, she left behind a trail of chilly Ice Blasts and fiery Galaxy Storms in her wake. People died wherever she went, and it took her only a couple of minutes to rack up a thousand bodies and counting.

"Begin!"

Vienna shouted and charged with the Heroic Bannerman in unison. They ran in a spiraling pattern and landed blow after blow on Stranger of Three Lifetimes’ Origin Energy Shield.

But to their surprise, the mage didn’t try to retaliate. She simply backed away, hid behind their allies, and tossed her Ice Blasts, Galaxy Storms and Seas of Flames everywhere but her attackers. Clearly, she knew that killing Vienna’s Sorrow was unrealistic and focused on taking out as many enemy players as she could instead. She had grasped the essence of the mage class completely.

The stalemate continued for almost ten minutes. Vienna’s Sorrow couldn’t help but agonize over the mountain of allies she had taken out during this time. Finally, Stranger of Three Lifetimes’ Origin Energy Shield disappeared for the eleventh time.

"Now!"

Vienna’s Sorrow abruptly closed the distance between himself and the mage and slashed her.

"Ah?!"

Caught off-guard, all Stranger of Three Lifetimes managed was a half-parry that cost her over 10k HP. Then, another sword brushed against her shoulder and deleted another huge chunk of HP, putting it below 20%!

Finally driven to a dead end, Stranger of Three Lifetimes gritted her teeth and backed away suddenly. Then, she fired three Fireballs and an Ice Blast in a row!

Bang bang bang!

The Heroic Bannerman who ambushed her fell off his horse and died. She actually deleted the guy with a chain of spells!

A blade passed right through her chest, and the mage slowly dropped to her knees. She had abandoned all her defense to kill one last Heroic Bannerman, so how could she possibly escape the pursuit of Vienna’s Sorrow?

One of the last few Chinese mages still standing on this battlefield died just like that, and to Vienna’s Sorrow no less. At this point, Vienna’s Sorrow was without a doubt the player with the highest Chinese kill count and the number one enemy of the China server!

"Your Momo is dead!" Chaos Moon looked at me as she knocked back a couple of Northern Alliance cavalry.

I replied simply, "No problem, you’ll be following her very soon…"

"Fuck you!" Chaos Moon nearly turned traitor there and then.

It was at this moment a big uproar appeared behind us. It was Snowy Cathaya punching through the enemy lines and joining up with us. The 4000+ players were led by Purple Marquis, Clear Perfume and more, and they didn’t look much better than we were.

"Holy shit!" Purple Marquis’ eyes widened. "I was hoping that Ancient Sword could help us, but they look even worse off than we are…"

Shadow Chanel said, "That’s because they’re facing off against Vienna’s Sorrow himself, you doofus. Now go help them already…"

"Yeah!"

As expected of the number one general of Snowy Cathaya, Purple Marquis had annihilated a row of enemies with a single Vacuum Slash. Out of all the people who served Lin Yixin, he was unquestionably the one she valued the most.

Boom!

After killing a group of enemies with Burning Blade Slash, I met up with the main bulk of Snowy Cathaya’s army and yelled, "Yo! What is keeping Yiyi? We’re practically at the end of this Nation War already!"

Purple Marquis shrugged. "The guild leader’s mother is receiving treatment right now. It’s almost been two days since I heard from her. That being said, I have a feeling that she’s going to show up anytime now."

I gripped my sword tighter. "That’s a shame. Yiyi is the only one who knows Great Earth Transformation, so it’s so unfortunate she didn’t get to show up during this Nation War."

"Yeah!" Purple Marquis sounded just as regretful as I was. "I heard that Great Earth Transformation increases the user’s Attack, Defense and all resistances by 100%! I’ve tried fighting her while she’s in that state before, and my chance of winning was lower than 20%!"

"Fuck…"

I sucked in a deep breath and shot another question, "Well, where are the other guilds? Tell them to come over to the north gate! We need to defend the entrance to the royal palace!"

"How should I know? Everyone’s scattered by the enemy!" Purple Marquis complained, "We ran into Luo River God of the Capital and Moonkiss on the way, but there was barely anyone who was still alive in Purple Lily! They said they’ll be coming over in a moment, but who knows? I didn’t see Warsky Alliance anywhere either, but since there hasn’t been any system announcements yet, Farewell Song, October Rain and Warsky are probably all still alive."

"Who would’ve thought that the war would turn out like this…"

"I know right?!" Purple Marquis swore through gritted teeth, "Candlelight Shadow, that motherfucker! He said that he would bring the Avengers over and save the city, but then he changed his mind and went to fucking Burning City, those fucking idiots! Burning City is guarded by almost a million players from Hero City and Chariot City precisely because the enemy has considered the possibility that we might invade their city while they are gone! Now it’s too late even if they change their minds and come back! We’re all fucking dead!"

It was back to fighting after taking a moment to vent our frustrations. Despite the dire situation, we were able to keep the Northern Alliance from getting close to the palace entrance for the moment.

Xu Yang and Du Thirteen stood side by side as they cut down every Northern Alliance player that came their way. The two bros had finally found their hidden strength during our greatest crisis.

"Leave Vienna to me! I’ll deal with him!" Purple Marquis shouted.

I was fairly confident in Purple Marquis’ abilities. In Sky City, he, Li Chengfeng and Farewell Song were second only to me and Lin Yixin. As a super-tier player who was one step away from reaching the top, all this guy needed was a chance to break through his limits and become a Heavenly King.

That being said, it was unrealistic to think that Purple Marquis could beat Vienna alone. To give an example, it was like sending Zhang Fei to solo Lu Bu. It was impossible unless he had a Guan Yu to support him.

"Wait!" I shouted. "Take one person with you!"

"Who will follow me to slay Vienna?!" Purple Marquis looked around himself.

Boom! A magical storm annihilated a group of enemies at this moment, and the great mage of China, Luo River God of the Capital finally made her way from the walls all the way to the northern gate. Beside her, the dagger-wielding Moonkiss said with a chuckle, "I will help you, Purple Marquis! Killing Vienna is a mission I can definitely enjoy!"

"Alright, let’s go!"

Purple Marquis laughed and charged toward the enemy while Moonkiss activated stealth and melted into thin air. No one knew where she went, but we were certain that she would appear during the moment Purple Marquis needed her the most. As the assassin CGL Hall of Famer who was second only to Farewell Song, Moonkiss’s PvP skills were some of the best out there.
